I mean if you had to pick one. I get your point but in case if you only had this video to pick one from.
Probably the smaller one, but I wonder if true tone is also doing something.

To be honest, I'm not that sensitive to this kind of stuff, unless there's a direct comparison. In other words, if I was given one of those phones, I'd be ok with it. I'm more interested in which feels best in my hand and is easiest to use.

Tried my luck again with an Air. Got another subpar display altho not as bad as all the rest I’ve tried. Gonna try it out. Too tired to keep trying. Loving the Air. Kinda makes me forget about the display just cause it feels so good to use. Tint is uniform but when angled downward the bottom half starts going green-ish but every other angle is fine.

The ones at the Apple Store were all much worse than the one I got so maybe that’s just the majority of them. I’d give this one a B- display whereas the other Airs I’ve tried were D. My 17 Pro is an A. So not too far apart.

The one on top from this video.

However panel uniformity for me is the most important and I’ve returned iPhones in the past over this issue (bottom being different color temp than top etc).

In the end imo the display that is easiest on your eyes should be the winner. It’s a display you look at hours every day.

Fun fact:
The gray tint color scheme of iOS has slightly more blue in it (ie red 20, green 20, blue 22), probably because this contributes to a “clean” look. People tend to prefer slightly colder displays when put next to each other.

My GVC screen on the 17 pro max.
As said before, its not only the green tint but its also more grainy / less sharp and has washed out colors (compared to my 13 pro max).

I did some more comparisons between two iPhone 17 pro max (GVC) and a iPhone 15 pro max (9N).

One of the LG panels on the 17 is noticeably worse than the other one, especially the green tint on the bottom. Shifting tints while pivoting the display is noticeable on all three screens but to varying degrees.

Personally I think the Samsung is the nicest, as the more pink hue is less noticeable than the green. Straight on both the better LG and the Samsung are great.

The lesser LG feels less uniform, but only when looking for it.

From the samples I saw in the Apple Store, all 17 pro had a good screen, whereas the max models had visible green tint shiff…

Re the green tint when tilting the top of the phone towards you and the bottom tilting away….. is that really a real-world scenario?
if it’s bad enough, it is visible if holding the phone in your hand and typing with one hand (the phone naturally tends to tilt when doing that) and the bottom 3-4 mm of the display may appear brighter than the rest of this display due to this defect. There is a range of severity but the very bad ones will be obvious even in normal use

Here’s the latest Air. Not bad alto not as good as the 17 Pro I have. The only green tint is bottom half when angling down hard which is an angle I’ll never do normally. (Pic 3).

Interesting to see G9N mentioned here. Every single iPhone I checked at NYC Apple store was LG GH,GV except one regular 17 which was G9.

How did you test many iPhones in the store to determine this?

Just eyeballing the screen at a few angles on a white page?

Spent about half an hour looking at iPhones in store just now

17 Pro: absolutely none with green tint on tilting, vibrant displays. Some had a little brightness variation between the top and bottom but nothing serious

Air: all (maybe 6-7 units) had pretty significant green shift when tilted

17 PM: 30-40% Samsung display, the rest LG with pretty bad green tint

So it seems like 17 Pro is the way to go this year if you want a pretty much guaranteed chance of a Samsung display without significant green tint at the bottom of the display. If what was true last year (Samsung using more advanced display materials for better contrast/image quality) is true this year then I will give 17 PM a couple tries & if my luck is bad, will just pick up a 17 Pro and call it a day
