I am not impressed by the Air’s screen. Yellowish tint and it’s not as sharp or bright as the 15 Pro Max

Air has the GVC
15 Pro Max has the G9P

First thing I did. Wouldn’t be happy with the brutal colour shift on half of the lower display anyway, but I can clearly feel the display is irritating my vision/PWM sensitivity. I liken to it felling like a torch is being flashed across your vision, making my eyes dilate more.

Thanks for that. I'm upgrading from an iPhone 11 once my local store gets any iPhones back in stock!

I guess I'll find out if I have any sensitivity soon ...

I am a bit sensitive to PWM and the G9Q on my Air has been very comfortable on my eyes so far. I wonder if Apple ships different screens to different regions. Maybe they prioritize the Samsung screens for the American market.

Love my 17PM LG GVC panel. Sure slight green tint when tilting it past 25 degrees in lower half but overall the panel is much more uniform and also no more slight pink tint of the Samsungs I used to always get . Best panel I’ve had in a while.

Sums up my experience also.

I can’t compare my 17 PM screen to my 16 PM as that got returned as part of my Apple Upgrade. However my wife has my previous 15 PM which I thought had a superb screen, and my 17 PM is subjectively better.

Still have my Samsung oled 16PM. So compared it well. Much prefer the LG,
Maybe I got lucky. 🍀

Got my 17 PM Friday, and even though I don’t think the screen is perfect, I’m ok with it. Might be better than my 16. And I just don’t have the time to play the lottery this year

Turned on my 17 Pro today and figured I had a G9N after two years of using a 15 Pro with a G9N as well. Sure enough! Samsung Display is the goat!

Spent about half an hour looking at iPhones in store just now

17 Pro: absolutely none with green tint on tilting, vibrant displays. Some had a little brightness variation between the top and bottom but nothing serious

Air: all (maybe 6-7 units) had pretty significant green shift when tilted

17 PM: 30-40% Samsung display, the rest LG with pretty bad green tint

So it seems like 17 Pro is the way to go this year if you want a pretty much guaranteed chance of a Samsung display without significant green tint at the bottom of the display. If what was true last year (Samsung using more advanced display materials for better contrast/image quality) is true this year then I will give 17 PM a couple tries & if my luck is bad, will just pick up a 17 Pro and call it a day
Were the 17 Pro Max’s with the Samsung displays the 256gb ones? Or higher memory?

I got a blue 256gb uk 17 pro max at launch and at first it seemed ok. Then I noticed a pink hue to the left of the screen. Once I saw it that was it I couldn’t unsee it. It had A GH3 screen so that probably sums it up. My 16 pro max screen has always been perfect. Checked that and it’s a GVC screen so again that sums it up. Only just learnt that this is a thing and I don’t have time or patience to play lottery so I’m keeping my 16 pro max until it because problematic. No way will I buy an iPhone each year now I have learnt this and when the time does come I will literally keep throwing phones back at them till I get a GVC or above or if the screen is perfect like this one. Reading this post is horrifying can’t believe this is actually a thing.

Looks like a Samsung panel, judging by its bad vertical uniformity.

Did further tests. iPhone 17 Air LG Screen vs. iPhone Pro Max 14 Samsung.

Front: Both are very similar. Overall, the LG Screen is calibrated towards more warm.
However, off axis there is a notable shift towards red on the LG Screen unfortunately.

In Dark Mode, the LG Screen looks better - has better black levels and overall more crisp display.

Personally i prefer the Samsung Screen due to the whites are not so warm.
It is no doubt also a matter what you prefer. Both are great screens in their own field.

Overall the Air is a fantastic device and I would immediately switch if it would have the same screen quality like my iPhone 14 Pro Max. I maybe will keep my 14 Pro Max until I see an Air with a Samsung Screen.

You just got a bad screen. There’s no point in aiming to get a specific panel, as there are terrible Samsung screens and LG screens. It really is a lottery. My 17PM with (LG) GH3 screen is fantastic, just minimal blue shift when tilting the phone vertically (top towards me) at an unnatural angle. Uniformity is perfect unlike my Samsung panel from my old 16PM and my wife’s 16PM.

Just left the Apple Store. The pro’s all look super nice with crisp white and no color shift. 6/8 Pro Max had bad color shift and green tint. Did the sys-diagnose test on one of the nice Pro Max and it was a GVC. I’m assuming the others were GH3 which is what I have.

oh wow!

Got a Sky Blue Air 512GB delivered and it has a pristine perfect display with uniform tint and no green tint on angles, I thought those didn't exist on the Air line. So happy that I finally found a keeper! not sure how to check the manufacturer but it must be Samsung or whichever the good one is.
