Hi, got my 3.+4. iPhone 17 PM, dark blue, 512 GB today.
First one has a horrible green tint (GH3). On the second one, the back cover was crooked and not flush (I didn't even turn it on). And these are the two new devices (same PM model) that arrived today. One is a GH3, the other one is a GVC. Pictures are attached: On the left is the GH3, on the right the GVC. To me, the device on the right has a red tint; I prefer the GH3. I'll probably keep this one; getting a Samsung display from a PM seems almost impossible. :(
One on the right is a Samsung panel pretending to be an LG panel 🤣

accessibility -> color filter -> tint -> hue, move the slider to the right if you have LG, and to the left if you have Samsung panel.

How far to push depends on your panel and your preferance.

I think tweaking the tint helps a lot to, well, reduce the green/red tinting of the lottery

Yeah G9P seems to be top tier. Got a G9P on my Air and can confirm it’s pretty much perfect.
How do you see your G9P in terms of being warm/yellowish ? This is the main thing I notice.

+ I compared to some 17P and PM in Apple Store and I would say my G9P has minimal less intense colors. (Can be also a bit because settings)

However, in terms of uniformity and tinting no issues. All you would expect it to be.

other than from the angle of the front leaning the screen forward (with it upward) where the right one seems more green tinted (that you have as upside down pics #2 and #5), I can see why you prefer the right unit. Also, in this situation you don't have uneven green blob like one of your units or two of em in previous post so you're good there

^ I dont think this angle in particular is as problematic in real world use either as looking from the bottom at an angle if the phone were laying on a table for example in front of you and that looks good.. (#3 and #4)

I can see why you prefer the right and I agree with you, text looks crisper and whites look whiter straight on as well.

I'd opt for the same if I was in your boat.
After seeing this photos, I think you did the right choice picking the one from the right.
After using this Air for a couple days I keep feeling like I’m seeing a pink bias on the right side of the display. It’s definitely more pink in those photos I posted, but it seemed fairly uniform. But in actual use, the right side sticks out to me at times. Maybe have to try the other Air for a few days since it seemed more uniform on-axis.

No yellow tint on my G9P Air. Looks perfectly white with no green / blue shifts on angles. Seriously the most perfect display I’ve had on any iPhone. Looks reference level.

Did you just get lucky with the G9P or did you play exchange roulette?

I had 4 Airs all with GVC. I actually had 2 others prior to that when I was debating 17P/PM/Air but the display lottery wasn’t even on my radar then, so no idea what displays they had.

Played exchange roulette, got the G9P on my third attempt. I kept alternating colors and storage capacities. The G9P was Light Gold 256GB.

Any more tried the color tint settings? I find it looking good without having layer of blown colors

After a few days off, detoxing from all the panel‑lottery madness, I’m back only to confirm that nothing has changed.

Your case is very telling. When I saw your first message, I already knew exactly what they were going to say — and I also knew who would say it.

These people never rest. It’s like their life mission is to defend Samsung panels or, failing that, anything that looks as close to a Samsung as possible, lol.

It’s unbelievable. That panel they told you to keep was indefensible — they only pushed it because it resembled their beloved Samsungs: pinkish and far from uniform. As if the only thing that mattered in a display were the colour shifts when tilted.

I’m not exactly young anymore, and I’ve spent 20 years on forums — mostly music and tech forums (Steve Hoffman, Reddit, a couple of AV forums) — and the fanaticism and denial I’ve seen in this thread surpass anything I’ve seen before. And trust me, I’ve seen and read it all.

Because it has a pinkish tone near the bottom. But you said you don’t like the first one because when tilted turns green, so 🤷🏻‍♂️

They all turn green when tilted. 2 of the 4 are pretty bad, the other 2 are not great but noticeably better. The first one I went with appeared to have the least green (by a hair), but I'm starting to think that is because the display is overall tinted a touch pink, and moreso towards the right side. The middle phone of the initial 5 phone comparison does seem to be the most uniform with low green shift. Going to give it a go for a few days before making my decision, but it'd sure be nice to get a Samsung Air display to really compare against... seems unlikely though.

Oh, and I have to add that with each passing day I’m even happier with my GVC, just like so many others in this thread who have said it’s the best panel they’ve ever had in their life. Looks reference-level.

We call that 'compensation' in psychology—your last post is a great example of it. Personal opinions don't make for generalized facts.

BTW, I have to add that I'm super happy with my G9N :).

The middle phone of the initial phone comparison looked the best, if you don’t like that, I’m not sure you will find another as bright and uniform like that. Do you use them with True Tone, night shift? Because I had iPhones when these were on and half of the screen was warmer then the other half. Now I got a G9Q and this one is the most uniform screen I got on the 17 pros. I don’t think there is a perfect screen, you need to get the one you like, if you don’t like none, return and buy more or don’t buy anymore, stick with what you have.

I played the lottery again. For the last time. I've had enough.
I've now had five(!) dark blue iPhone 17 PMs with 512GB.
The bottom line: two of them were externally damaged (one had a dent in the frame, the other one had a misaligned back panel). I didn't even bother turning on the one with the misaligned back. The other four iPhones all had LG panels (3 GVC and 1 GH3). The GH3 will be the keeper. It has the nicest and most uniform screen, compared to the others. And the least green tint when tilted forward.

It's simply sad what kind of devices Apple lets through quality control. My conclusion: if you want a uniformly white Samsung screen without any tint at any angle, you should definitely NOT order a PM, but a regular Pro. (Unfortunately, the Pro's screen is too small for me.)

Edit: attached some photos, the one in the middle is the GH3:

Let see what screens you guys have.

I have a LG screen (GVC) on my 17 pro max and has a bad case of screen (green) tinting when moving the bottom of the screen away from my face. Also it has a greenish tint overall when facing straight to my face.
It could be because my 13 pro max is 4 years old and has cumulative 1000’s of hours of screen on time (blue pixels degrade the fastest and red will be more dominant). Colours look somewhat washed out too. Coming from a 13 pro max, which had a perfect screen with better colours, it’s a little disappointing.

Is the lottery a thing again with this generation?

copy / pasted the following from reddit and worked for me:

For those wondering how to check your display manufacturer...

You can run sysdiagnose on your phone (press volume up, volume down, and lock button) all together for around a second. You will feel the phone vibrate.

Wait a couple of minutes and then go to Settings -> Privacy and Security -> Analytics and Improvements -> Analytics Data.

You will then scroll down and look for a file titled: sysdiagnose_XXXXXXXX.

You will click on that file and then click the arrow in the upper right hand corner and scroll down and click “Save to Files” Once it is saved you will go into your files and click the file to unpack it.

Within the folder that is unpacked you will click on the folder “ioreg” and then click the file “IODeviceTree”.

You will then use the magnifying search glass in the bottom right hand corner to search “raw-panel”. It will then give you a serial number.

I have an LG display which has the beginning letters of GH3.

GVC is the best of the LG panels but not as good as Samsung’s best which is the G9N.

The top 3 panels are:

• Samsung G9N • Samsung G9Q • LG GVC

The worst panel is LG GH3.”
I’ve just joined and apologies for busting Ito someone else’s thread

I can’t find anyone complaining about their I phone 17? I’m no techie (I’m 71!) but this is my second 17. I find writing on forums, e-mail, WhatsApp texts facebook etc is blighted by letters that sometimes don’t work. Screen crashing and sometimes wiping all content that hasn’t been sent. I can’t believe I’m the only one experiencing this?
Any observations?
