im hoping my 3G lasts that long.....its got a broken screen....button don't work, and the only way I can reboot is if im jailbroken....if it finally dies......i have been a little rough on the beaver.....but....when the 4th gen is released....im buying it....hopefrully it will work with verizon so i can switch carriers at the same time.,

So your plan is to travel back in time?

I'm confused. You said you're going to save money in 2010. How is an event that happened once in 2007 going to help you do that?

So if other people don't understand how subsidized phones work and complain then THAT's going to allow you to buy a phone cheaper?

I'm still not understanding the plan here.

It's called supply and demand. Something comes out, everyone wants it, and it costs more. Later, the demand lessens and the cost goes down. So, even though it happened once, doesn't mean it's not going to happen again. I'd rather be safe than sorry.

I agree with most; the battery life is pathetic. Charging it every day is ridiculous, especially when I make three, 5 minute phone calls in an average day and play no games. My wife can go a week between charges and she uses her phone more than me. This is a flip phone from 4 years ago (Verizon). Hopefully the technology is out there for this to be solved. Please.

It's certainly possible it will happen. But it didn't happen last year and it didn't happen the year before that.

So you're welcome to wait, I'm just saying the odds are not in your favor. I'm not judging you or anything, it's just a simple fact that you're hoping for something that only has a slim chance of occuring.

I'll say this now i won't be upgrading unless its jampacked with new stuff that my 3GS can't do. However when the 3gs came out I said it would take alot more then speed to make me abandon my 2g and tmo. Few months later I talked myself into switching to AT&T and getting the 3gs so I can't rule it out lol. I got an unhealthy addiction to apple products and technology in general I'm already scared what lengths I'll goto to get an ipad.

I like my 3GS fine and I'm assuming the new OS update will be free, so unless there's something pretty epic in the new hardware I'll probably hold out.

Have you forgot all the whining when the 3G went from 599 to 299 (or somewhere around there) several months after it came out. I thought that was in 2008.

Then you had all the whining about buying the 3G a year before the 3GS and wanting to upgrade early. We'll definitely hear that this time.

I think you mean it was the original iPhone that was $599 and then dropped to $299.

Through the Looking Glass

If the new one

has top and bottom cameras and the screen on the back
turns itself around if I remove it from my pocket facing the wrong way
is perfectly transparent black
includes a hole punch
has a ring tone of the noise Daryl Hannah makes in Splash
can actually cure a hangover, and
enables a 4-hour erection that doesn't require medical assistance

I might buy it.

Otherwise, I'm considering the iPad. If they can make it float.

It would depend on what new features it had and whether those new features were important to me or not. It would also depend on whether or not I was able to negotiate something with my cell carrier in order to upgrade from my 3G as I have a 3 yr contract with Rogers here in Canada as is the norm for most of us with iPhones.

I'm still on a 3G so when I'm eligible for a new one, I'm probably going to go with a 3GS refurb for $$ reasons. Unless the 4G has something amazing I can't live without :D

I still have my 3G; I skipped on the 3Gs because the differences weren't great enough to warrant using my upgrade discount.

I've been very interested in some of the Android phones lately (like the Nexus One and HTC Desire), but I've decided to hold out and see what Apple has in store for the 4th generation phone before I make any decisions.

For me, OS 4.0 is going to be the deal breaker. There's not much I'd really like to see in terms of new hardware, except for maybe a camera upgrade and notification light. The essential OS 4.0 upgrades are going to be:

- Re-designed UI
- Multi-tasking
- More customization
- Better notification system

If Apple doesn't deliver, I'm probably going to switch to an Android phone. I will miss the iPhone (especially some of my apps), but I just don't think the lack of the above-mentioned features would warrant staying on board.

[*]Adds a message indicator light... I should be able to tell I have a message waiting without turning the screen on

Never understood the absence of this!

I'll probably upgrade soon after the next gen is released. Nothing wrong with my 16GB 3G, but I'm reaching the point where 32GB would be real nice, and the other 3GS improvements would be welcome (I've got my eye on a couple apps that use the compass...).

And I, for one, have had no issues with AT&T to date.

:apple::apple:

I have a couple questions:

1. What am I going to pay for a new iPhone if I've only completed one year of my 2 year contract?

2. How bout after contract completion and I want to sign a new 2 year contract?

I have an upgrade ready and willing. I will most likely give my 3GS to my brother and will continue the tradition of cool stuff handed on down by the more tech savvy younger bro tradition

I will be upgrading this year. I need more space for music. That is the primary need for me in a new iPhone. I become eligible next month, but I can hold out for the next model rather than settling with a 32GB 3GS. I am really hoping for a 64GB. When the original iPhone came out, I said that I probably won't get one until a 64GB is available (because I had a 60GB iPod). Well that didn't happen and I got the 16GB 3G. A 64GB iPhone would be friggin awesome.

if it's worth upgrading then i'll sell my iphone and use the money towards a new one :) iphones my favourite phone, but there is some things i'd like to see on the new one :)

if its not worth upgrading...i'll keep my iphone :)

See guys i have been smart :p i bought my iPhone 3G in september 2008 when the new iPhone came out i sold me 3G for £250 and then bought a 32GB 3GS for £500 so that when a new one comes out this year im not in a contract. Im in the cheaper one month contracts.

In the UK after 18 months you can drop to a simplicity contract so i get Unlimited web and wifi, unlimited texts , 300 MMS messages and 600 minutes for £27.50 a month.

Basically ill get the new iPhone if it comes out and i will sell my 3GS for £250-300 and will be in a really good contract.

I hope they fix the phone part of the iPhone. I only receive about 80% of my calls at home and 10% at work. You can blame AT&T for this, considering they have many, many phone on their current network that work flawlessly. The fix has to come from Apple.

It depends on too many things. If it comes out and it's really not that great, I'd be inclined to be an Android device. With that said, I live in Canada and android devices + canada = lol. Nexus One or bust, and that's not sold here yet. And if it isn't then I wont settle for lesser android and still get the iPhone.

If it comes out and it's good, then I'll get that and live happily ever after. It will be hard for it to be not good, as I think even they realize what they have to do. Should be interesting.

Long story sort, odds are I'm buying it =p

Well the contract on my iPhone ends in September, so I'll examine all options then. More than likely I'll get the new iPhone, but I'm going to also be looking at the Android if AT&T offers one then.
