I also have an older Mac running Mojave...Updating to Catalina isn't an option because it's old Mid 2010 Mac Pro.
I.m.h.o. you shouldn't be able to run Mojave on that hardware without a patch. If you patch anyway you can also install a volume with Catalina.

Mojave runs natively on a 2010 Mac Pro with just a Metal-compatible GPU swap.

This is why I keep a Windows machine btw.

Also you can switch default serial number display into model number, which is far more generic.

Sync just fine. Books, Music, Movie, even ringtone, all work on my M1 iPad Pro.
Granted, my music library on iPad may screw up (iTunes library is not the same as “Music” library), but nonetheless.
I obviously cannot install update on this version of iTunes but it is good enough for foreseeable future.

On Mac side of things, the iTunes support fell apart a couple years ago already despite my valiant attempt to not upgrade beyond High Sierra (the true last version that has 32-bit support. Mojave does not count).

And yes, my iPad runs iOS 16.1.1 as you guys can see. Needless to say, Windows with iTunes still can go a little while longer. It’s rather unfortunate for people who doesn’t want to use Windows machine for various reasons.

As for image capture, I rarely use it so doesn’t really have much vivid memory.

Hmmm! Just updated my iPad 7th gen to iPad)S 16.2. Still on Mojave 10.14.6, iMac 14,1.

When plugging the iPad, a software update was proposed and installed.

However, the iPad can't be seen in iTunes 12.9.5.5!!!

Photos recognize it immediately but iTunes refuses to "see" it...

SOLVED:

I plugged my iPad on my MacBookPro 2015, it asked for the update... and it was recognized by iTunes.

I simply verified each associated files (Coretypes.bundle, mobiledevice.kext, launchagents and launchdaemons, privateframeworks). I copied what was different on my MBP to my iMac and restored their permissions.

Then, I've reinstalled iTunes from my Mojave package on top of the other...

... and now, it works!

Go figure what was the culprit: the different files, the iTunes app?

Ok, situation I have is this; I have a 2015 MacBook Pro running Mojave 10.14.6 and an iPhone 11 Pro which is up-to-date running iOS 16.3. Every so often I plug my iPhone in to my MacBook Pro to move music files across and into the Music app. I am sure it was working on earlier 16 versions, but when I do it now, I see this:

I don't want to go beyond Mojave. There must be a workaround this. Does anyone have any suggestions please?

ios 16.3 works completely with MOJAVE.

The only thing you should avoid is upgrading Reminders on ios16 to keep icloud reminders syncing between all devices.

Thanks. I thought it was going to try to make me upgrade beyond Mojave. All sorted! :)
Brothers 😁. I am on the same boat. Macbook pro 2015 and refuse to move beyond Mojave. Not only that but i erased the stupid Books app and I installed iTunes 12.6.5.3 to handle my extensive collections of books. iTunes 19.9.5 handles my music (and streaming movies to AppleTV)

There is no problem on my side with this update under Mojave.
It's just an update that allows iTunes to recognize and synchronize a device under ios16
I had that too. The task did not complete after an hour?

Thanks for the heads up. I like to update my phone using iTunes and my iMac is limited to High Sierra.. Guess I'll be staying on iOS 15.7 until I either get a new phone or computer..

Update: Just found this system requirement for iOS16:

Looks like High Sierra is still acceptable..

I’m curious if that also means notes, reminders and calendar will still sync over wifi? I’m still using 15.7 on iPhone and high sierra on laptop. I have them auto sync over wifi, it’s handy. But I did not push the upgrade button in reminders app as I’ve seen some people say it will no longer sync to reminders on MacBooks running older OS. I still can’t find anything concrete one way or another if calendar, reminders and notes will auto sync from an iPhone running iOS16 to a MacBook running high sierra.

Photos won't import either. Same error.

Everyone go report this as a bug. This is unacceptable. I refuse to bin a perfectly functional and rock stable machine just for this planned obsolescence ********. I already replaced my old MacBook because of broken iCloud certificates.

Well said. Planned obsolescence infuriates me, it’s all for profit and gain. Those days when stereos and receivers would last for decades and still work and sound great. Even my late 2011 MacBook Pro is running like a champ…yet planned obsolescence in coordination with hardware, software and third parties like anyone who operates websites constantly updating all contribute to planned obsolescence. I’ve been sick of it for over a decade now.

Reading through this, I'm still a little confused. Is there support for Photos and Image Capture with Mojave and iOS16.5 (latest), or just iTunes? I'm still on iOS 14 with my iPhone 8, but App devs keep dropping update support, so I'm getting to the point where I'm forced to consider upgrading iOS.

I still need 32bit support for running Wine .exe's, so Catalina is a no-go for me atm. Maybe I'll just wind up moving to Catalina and creating a minimal Mojave boot partition for Wine and whatever else, but it's kinda silly.

I think it is time to consider buying a brand new machine with M1 or whatnot for support, or just stick to use older version of those applications unless dev literally make those older versions unusable. Catalina has changed so much that I advise you don’t install it on your mojave Mac, unless you have a complete restorable backup (something that can be used to boot after restore).

Also, the last version of macOS still offering full 32-bit application support is high sierra, not Mojave. But that’s just my opinion.

I mean, for a daily driver, I wouldn't have a problem/mind using an M1+ Mac, but I can't afford a new machine right now, so that's not an option. And forget about it for my audio workstation. Upgrading Pro Tools alone and going to a subscription is out of the question and the software for my Focusrite interface isn't supported past Mojave.

I didn't know that about 32bit and HS. I may just have to do what I said and update to Catalina, but keep a bare bones install of Mojave, or HS for any stuff I want to do in Wine. Or just try and use a virtual machine for Windows altogether. Thanks for your input.

I had a hard time with Mojave and my iPad iOS 16 but I fixed it with a newer Hackintosh with Big Sur installed. I think it somewhat worked with Mojave but not sure?

Yeah, Hackintoshes here but the same principles applies after all!

Older macOS version tend to have a much harder time against newer iOS compared to older iTunes version on windows. Idk why. Forced obsolescence unless user don’t really care? Cause there are enough people able to use their iPhone iPad without ever connecting to any computer (wired or wireless) To transfer much data.

You are right: the Windows 10 side of my old Hackintosh (Mojave) had no troubles syncing my iPad with iOS16 (iTunes).

Could you please elaborate on that?
Which 32 bit Apps should be working in high Sierra, but not in Mojave?

In Mojave, Apple has those nag screens when you first run any 32-bit application telling you next version no longer supports 32-Bit. Also, I remember running some issues after upgrading from High Sierra to Mojave that some startup items and apps didn’t work in Mojave at all. So I never bothered to use newer version of macOS since until when I got M1 Mac with Big Sur.
For the most part, 32-bit on Mojave would have a downgraded experience compared to High Sierra, hence I consider High Sierra the last version offering full support for 32-bit apps.

I'm a shy person which is why my post count is so low. And I know what I'm about to say is going to be a deeply unpopular opinion with some people, which makes this all the harder to post. But I feel like someone really needs to say this:

The word "planned" in "planned obsolescence" suggests deliberate malice on the part of Apple, as though they took active steps to try and make Mojave break specifically in the hopes it would force you to give them more money. I really don't think that's a fair assessment of what's happening here. Any Mac that can't upgrade beyond Mojave is at least 10 years old at this point. Exactly how long do you think Apple is ethically indebted to people for their purchases when they promised them nothing like this? Exactly how long should program and web site creators stay away from newer technologies everyone else could be benefitting from just to keep their stuff from breaking for the few people who want to keep using old machines?

Receivers and stereo equipment can work great for 20+ years because, unlike with a computer, nobody has to put forth any real effort to make that possible. If you DO have a problem with such equipment after so long, I doubt any company is going to offer you free repairs/replacements for it, mail you free adapters to keep it compatible with newer equipment, etc.. Certainly, they shouldn't have to. Hats off to Apple for actually doing the equivalent of that by fixing this problem.

I can confirm this I swapped out my gpu on my ’12 cmp (fan was dying anyways and was getting annoying) and Mojave installed no problem, as far as newer os’es that requires some special patching

also I can also confirm iOS 16.5 works on itunes even dfu’ed and updated my iPad to 16.5 using iTunes plus every time I jailbreak my phone or pad iTunes pops up all the time to tell me my device needs help
