A perfectly valid stance. The things that are compelling to me may to be to someone else.

This isn't equivalent to "this phone is just more of the same". 'The differences aren't important to me' is not the same consideration as 'There are no differences'.

However...

This was my suspicion.

In any event, glad something like the 8 does what you want/need. :)
Thanks, I can’t wait to get it now, but only for the hardware improvements. As far as software it does what every other iPhone does including my current one so it’s not overly exciting in that respect. I think long gone are the days of being excited to get a new phone as they change so little these days for me.

Ha! I can’t even get skinny jeans to fit over my calves as I cycle and occasionally lift weights.

I like normal sized phones as I can sit down and leave my phone in my pocket if I wish.

That’s a common problem and the reason I’ve never been interested in a Plus iPhone. I know a few people who have them but they have handbags which makes owning it a lot more bearable. I’ve tried it out to see if I could bear the size but the whole point of a mobile phone for me is for it to be easy to grip and be portable. Removing it from my pocket every time I sit down because it stabs into my pelvis or through fear of it falling to the ground just makes it more inconvenient for me personally. I don’t think I’ve worn baggy trousers with deep pockets since about 2004?

I’ll be interested to see just how big this 6.1” LCD device will be. I’ve ruled it out if it doesn’t have 3DTouch but it might end up being too big anyway. I don’t get the massive phone craze to be honest.

I currently have a Plus model and I have zero interest in the rumoured 6.5 inch iPhone. Holding my current phone, I can’t see that the extra screen space currently occupied by bezels is going to be any use - even with two handed use.

So, if I do replace my current phone, it will be the 5.8 model.

But - one thing I don’t understand. What’s with the supposed affordable, budget, mass market model coming in a 6.1”? I don’t understand the need for three distinct sizes when the middle-ground sweetspot is a budget model. Is this some sort of psychological trick to try and force premium buyers to the larger model?

That’s a very good point. Those of us who like the standard size iPhone are given a very limited choice and in my case it’s going backwards a year. It’s a strange strategy IMO.

It’s one thing that I think is wearing pretty thin with Apple now. Take the storage options last year. Removing the middle ground and keeping the base tier at a level that’s just low enough to leave doubts in the mind of purchasers, edging them towards the more expensive option.

But the screen sizes thing is bordering on bizarre. Assuming the SE, 8 and 8 Plus remain on sale, this leaves six different screen sizes with not much logic to the tiers. Apple just seem to have lost all concept of simplicity.

I’m on the iPhone Upgrade Program and will definitely upgrade to the X Plus 64GB.

Instead of trading my phone into Apple, I’m going to sell it privately.

I got $600 for my 7 Plus last year and used that money to pay the $450 balance that remained on the iPhone Upgrade Program.

Hoping to get $600+ for my X too.

So what’s the point of going on the upgrade program if you’re planning to sell the phone yourself?

I honestly regret purchasing the X. I came from a 7plus and I definitely miss the size of that. I know that makes no sense considering the screen size of the X. If they come out with an X plus I will most like pay ATT to trade my X in and upgrade.

I could have resisted buying the X but after over a year I decided to right size my phone from the 7+. I've delegated the 7+ to my backup plan, so I don't carry in pocket.

Of my iPhones, the iPhone 4 was probably the best pocket phone :) I didn't use a case for the 3G, and that one slid out of pocket too often. Every phone since then has been taller, so is visible in shirt pocket.
[doublepost=1531062268][/doublepost]I only plan to upgrade from my X if the new phones support B71, and I want to change to T-Mobile. Otherwise, it remains cheaper to just keep my inexpensive backup phone on a Verizon MVNO as a backup to my ATT Prepaid service.

If I can control myself, maybe I can wait until 5G is available and worthwhile :)

Definitely not upgrading to X+ because I don't ever want to walk around with a TV sized phone. Only reason I did that with the Pluses was the battery life which is great on the X.

So the only thing that can get me to upgrade from the X would be a huge improvement to FaceID, as that is the only thing I feel is a little underwhelming on the X.

Was wondering the same thing.

Because I’d rather pay for the phone monthly and not in full up front.

Also, they prioritize iUP customers when doing the preorder. So when I went to order the X I still did it as an upgrade and basically said “yeah I’m going to trade in my 7 Plus”, but they never received it obviously so I used the $600 to pay off the $450 (pocketed $150) and am now paying monthly for the X.

In your experience, were potential buyers not concerned that you still owed on the phone you were selling?

That’s irrelevant because the phone is unlocked due to being on the iPhone Upgrade Program.

There are no consequences to the person who bought my phone. In Verizon’s eyes, that phone is no longer being used with my number and I moved to something else. And there would be nothing that Apple can do to stop it from being used just because it isn’t paid off.

Looking forward to getting an iPhone X Plus with at least 256Gb. Will sell my current I phone X

Disagree entirely. Having an _expanded_ iPhone line up offers a price point and dispay size for everyone. Its more options, more options leads to a wider selection and variety, meeting different preferences for everyone. Apple should be catering to a wider demographic with iPhones like the SE with an affordable price point, in between iPhone models and of course the 5.8 iPhone X. Before it was complaints Apple had a poor selection of iPhone models, now its complaints because ‘Apple has lost the concept of simplicity’? Doesn’t seem to negatively affecting the outcome for the iPhone, in which they sold approximately *220 million* iPhones in 2017.

I don’t mean to imply anything in your particular case, but if a shady seller stops making payments on a phone it will get blacklisted and be unusable to the buyer. To remove any doubt for potential buyers, sellers should always pay the phone off before selling. I think sites like Swappa require that before allowing a phone to be listed for sale on their site.

Lol I see what you’re saying, but none of that applies to me. I’m not a “shady seller” and the phone doesn’t become blacklisted or unusuable just because Apple didn’t receive it and/or it wasn’t paid off.

Since Apple doesn’t receive it they figure I just want to keep it so they politely say “hey, you can just pay it off.” Which I do and am on my merry way.

Nothing shady or weird. The buyer is not impacted whatsoever and can do whatever they’d like with the phone.

Same here, but I may not sell my X and just turn it in back to my carrier if re-sale values are not great.

Resale values on iPhones are always good. If I got $600 for a 7 Plus (way higher than what carries/Apple gave) then the X should be worth the same or a little more.

On the look-out for a cheap X, move my 7 Plus on. Ideal time to upgrade, my phone still has some warranty so get reasonable resale and the latest ones are dropping because a new one is on the horizon.

I think in another 12 months it will be so hard to get rid of devices with home buttons, the resale market is massively saturated as it is.

If I upgrade now I'll get £400 for mine (had offers from cash buyers), an X will cost me £750 (from a second hand retailer). £350 to upgrade now. If I wait then my phone will drop to £300-350 and the new shiny Apple one will be circa £900. I could go the second hand retailer in September and save money on the first gen X but its the same sum of money with depreciation of second hand phones.

Just curious. Did you have to pay off the remaining payments on your 7 Plus, which include AppleCare, or just the the actual payoff on the phone minus the AppleCare?

Good question! Paid off the whole thing. iPhone & AppleCare+ because they’re a package deal when on the iPhone Upgrade Program.

And I can also say that there’s a year remaining of AppleCare+ when selling it which is nice.

Will be keeping my 8+ until it’s last flicker of life. :apple:

I will get a new $29 battery for my 7 and keep it another year. I feel smartphones have seriously plateaued in the last few years even as prices have risen. So you pay more than ever for an upgrade that’s smaller than ever. Which means I’ll keep existing devices longer than ever.

My wife did this a few months ago. It was amazing how renergized it became. She is good for another two years easy. :apple:

If the X is only going to be worth 600 max I would rather give the phone back to my carrier instead of paying it off and selling.
