Picked mine up today from the Bridgeport Village store here in Portland Oregon. If you dont want to order, they have them in stock. I called downtown and washington square as well, both said they had not received them yet.

My local Apple store called this morning. I went in at lunch and picked one up. Took the afternoon off to set it up and enjoy it. Not bad.

Anyone purchase two by any chance? I'm curious how well a macbook pro can handle them. If its constant fan noise I guess I'll have to go with just a dell u2711. The ability to have two is whats making me ultimately go glossy.

I have 2nd TBD coming tomorrow. For now I connected TBD and the latest ACD to an early 2011 MBP. To support ACD and also for my use, I connected Pegasus R6. MBP fans are always running. I will post back here after 2nd TBD is delivered.

Very audible? Is this in clamshell mode or open as well? I appreciate the information!

So I hear the ATD won't even work in Boot Camp? According to CNET...

I haven't read CNET's review. But I can confirm TBD works just like ACD. When I started early 2011 MBP in BootCamp, drivers automatically got installed and as per displayed message, I had to restart twice. Display and Sound are fine. No issues yet.

My configuration:
1. Early 2011 MBP to TBD using Apple Thunderbolt Cable
2. TBD's Thunderbolt Cable is connected to Pegasus R6
3. ACD's mini display cable is connected to second thunderbolt port of Pegasus R6.
4. Boot Camp - Windows 7 Ultimate

Pegasus is not recognized by Windows 7 Ultimate. So I didn't expect ACD to work. As you can see from the picture TBD works fine with Boot Camp.

Will the display accept input from a second device like you could do with the iMacs and switch between them?

i.e. could you have your laptop plugged in with the main cable and plug a second machine in via the other TB port and switch between them?

Ah you're in the same position as me it seems. You seem to have a 17" antiglare mbp.

How is it next to the glossy screen? I specifically bought this machine to get away from gloss. Are colors pretty much on sync?

Thank you for clarification. Makes me feel better since I'd use Windows on occasion w/ that huge screen. Now all there needs to be is a hack or something to hook up a Cinema Display to the Thunderbolt Display, with no middle object. Only thing preventing me from Dual Monitors.

can anyone clarify if the 27" screens from apple (imac, acd, atd) has had an issue with image persistence like with the previous 24" cinema?

1 more day! This is the first launch product that Apple hasn't shipped next day delivery in my experience. I suppose weight plays a role. It would be great if Apple instituted Apple "Prime".

"Image persistence"?

If you mean LCD pixel lag when switching, then all LCD displays have that. Apple rates the TBD (and the ACD that preceeded it I believe) at 12ms pixel response time (unsure if it's grey-to-grey or some other measure) which probably is the unaided response time of the IPS panel being used.

Many other manufacturers report quicker response times, typically by using overdrive - IE, sending a greater color differential to the panel initially to make the LCD crystals react faster. This leads to visible artefacts however and I guess Apple just wanted to avoid ghostly shadows following moving objects. This can be quite distracting if you become aware of it...

Glasgow store had a few this morning but have all sold out apparently while the online store is now showing stock for delivery on Monday.

Connected two Thunderbolt Displays to early 2011 i7 MBP. Closed MBP's lid. I noticed fan runs non-stop. There is also an audio issue which I posted in Apple Discussion forums:

Boot Camp: Detects just one display. I guess we have to wait for driver update from Apple.

From what I've read and heard is its not good to run clamshell because the machine doesn't get proper air circulation. I'm not 100% so don't quote me on that.

If you leave it open does it still run the fans nonstop with 1 or 2 displays?

I haven't noticed mine getting hotter in clamshell mode. In any case the MBA is loaded with temperature sensors and the fan ups its RPMs if it needs to cool down.
