So, I ordered my Mac mini from the Apple Online Store but the Up-To-Date web form is asking for a place of purchase, city and state. What do I put in these fields? I can't submit the form with it blank.

Thanks!

i put Apple Store Online, Cupertino, CA when i filled it out.

This is a tough question. I did a google search and found one link that seems to suggest that the plural form of infinitives (except those using "be") are the same as their non plural form. If this is true, in this case it would just be "To Do." Most of the search results turn up articles on split infinitives. I know a couple of english majors but none of them are online at the moment, so that's the best I can do.

Anyway, always a point of amusement: Bob's Quick Guide to the Apostrophe, You Idiots
I was an English and Classics major in undergrad, so I SHOULD know this! My original thinking, was, "It's a verbal noun--there must be some way to make it plural..." But now that I think of it--this is not the case. I think "To Do" can be either singular or plural...you're right. There's no way to pluralize the infinitive in Greek or Latin--but the infinitive construct in Biblical Hebrew, I believe, is changed to accomodate gender and number...but not the infinitive absolute.

So, we're all agreed...Apple should change "To Do's" to "To Do"..."To Do's" sounds too darn cutesy anyway...

OK, my fondness for grammar is starting to freak me out!

regarding the HD Powerbook

I'm wondering if I should wait until NAB is over before placing my order for both my Powerbook... Tiger just makes it all look so sweet (just don't want to miss an update that could be so near).

And yes, it does have to do with porn... after going over website and looking at the new features of all the programs, I stumbled over a new advance in Safari 2: Private Browsing. Now, Apple claims this if for public macs so people can insure their info will not be stolen by other users. The REAL reason, though, provides a much better option for those who don't want ALL the places we visit on the net stored. And now, instead of having to clear my entire history every time I visit certain types of websites, I can just enable this handy feature when I need it!
Looks like we'll have to use the new parental controls on you...hahaha

No core image support for the Mac mini == No sale to me. Apple did this **** intentionally. It would have cost them what? All of maybe $50 more for a GPU that supported ALL of Tiger's functions  Even with XP the laptop I got 6 months before runs all of its functions. Stupid aholes. Yah know MS may play hardball and games with their products but Apple does the same damn ****!

OK-- Then what's the plural of "Smarty Pants"?

It's not really an infinitive, it's a noun that looks like an infinitive.
Is an infinitive not, by definition, a noun? I'm not a linguist, but in all of the languages that I've taken it's always been referred to as a "verbal noun."

There is more to Tiger than Core Image, Safari is supposed to be faster, openGL improvments, Spotlight etc.

I wouldn't base my decision on a purchase based on a ripple effect.

So now...

I have never bought a new mac on such "critical" dates as the 29 will be...

So I was wondering if any of you know if Tiger will be delivered with any eligible new computer on April 30? :)

What was it like for Panther? Was there a copy sold with each new computer after the official release date? :D

thank you

You might consider waiting till after WWDC in June. There could be an announcement by Steve then.

Of course. Why would they ship with no box??
I think it'll come in a box too...

BUT, when I ordered my iBook, shortly after iLife 04 was released, iLife 04 was neither preinstalled, nor in the package. So I called Apple and asked what the deal was? They shipped me a bunch of discs in sleeves--not in the nice little box that you'd get if you bought in the store.

I think there is a LITTLE bit more to it then a ripple effect....

Just want to publicly out myself as one of those nay-sayers who was looking to the last day of June (or even later) for the release. Darn thing better be in top shape... I'm sure not ordering it until I hear about everything it breaks...

Hehe, same here. I've been boldly predicting July 2nd at noon (the exact midpoint of the year) for some time now. Damn, missed it! I was so sure... :p

I agree, I'll be reading reports of how things go very intently to determine how soon I should take the plunge. Don't want any catastrophic oopses! Of course, I'll probably break down and order it before the 29th, but I swear I'm gonna try to wait to install until after reading some reports. Hopefully I'll make it at least until that evening... :D

Yea, most stuff that should be preinstalled or come with the computer they don't give you boxes for. My iLife '04 on my iMac was preinstalled, and it came with the DVD or whatever in a small sleeve. Doesn't bother me that I don't have a box really.

I constantly worry about Dock Clutter--is there a pref that allows you to take Dashboard out of the Dock while it's running?

There are already posts on this, but I guess you didn't stop to read them, or you just enjoy going over the top. Anyway, if your machine runs Tiger, it runs CoreImage, it's just that, with a supported graphics card, some of the processing for CoreImage is offloaded to the GPU. It's really no different than the requirements in earlier OS X releases for Quartz Extreme support.

So, exactly what is happening between now and April 29th if Tiger has already gone gold? Why not just release it now as a torrent. I'm sure Apple could save a lot of money on packaging and shipping.

Because Apple wants to make money on it, and torrents suck.

YES! All realtime FCP filters, finally! I am looking forward to real-time blend modes. That has been killing me ever since they released FCP 1.0.

It's got a few quirks still. 10.4 doesn't automatically switch between multiple base stations on the same network, Safari doesn't let you save photos to any folder you want anymore (only iPhoto or the desktop), and it's printer support isn't 100% yet.

Tiger won't be delivered with a new Mac right away. Apple will offer Tiger for $19.95, the shipping and handling fee. They will send the CD's without a box.

As soon as the current preinstalled Mac's with Panther are sold, then they will come with Tiger. There is just no way to know what that date will be for sure.

May We New Tiger Announced Thread, or Something, Please?

Hi. I am excited about the announcement of Apple's release of Tiger. I am unhappy that I just had to wade through 15 pages of stuff, with very little of it being devoted to Tiger, its hardware requirements, new toys in it, etc. I'm sorry that one poster had a problem. A number of suggestions were posted early on. Now, it's time to drop that issue & move on. We can't change the outcome anymore.
To save others the grief of wading through all 15 pages, may we please have a new thread, so that people don't have to wade through all of this junk from now on?
Thank you.

the dashboard icon in the dock is just one way to get into dashboard. dashboard is actually always running.. you can just drag dashboard out of the dock, and still get to it with screen corners or keyboard commands.

i think they gave dashboard a dock icon just to make it more noticable to less knowledgable users who don't know about screen corners or keyboard commands.
