It'll work, it's the same card.
Basically any "DX9 capable" card can do all the new stuff.
say, what about the radeon 8500. ati's website info states DX8.1 support but may be out of date. will the 8500 support it?

Where's that BitTorrent client??

I for one will absolutely not buy Tiger. I'm a switcher who bought a Mac mini last Thursday...just on the wrong side of the Apple Up-To-Date cutoff. Thanks for nothing Apple. I feel like I've just been screwed with my pants on.

I don't have thousands of dollars (or hundreds) laying around like many of you it seems. I bought what computer I could afford and don't have the $$ to spend on more software for it at this time. Don't bother saying you don't feel sorry, I'm not asking you to.

One happy customer will tell a few people. One disgruntled customer will climb to the highest mountaintop and scream his displeasure to all. I know which category I'm in.

Now where'd that BitTorrent client go.....

Can't wait to pick it up at the campus computer store for $20 :D (Good 'ol TAP)

My poor, aging PowerBook won't be able to take advantage of several of the features, but hey, for $20, who's complaining? :p

If it hasn't shipped, why don't you just cancel and reorder?

Good point! If it comes to that I will, but i'll give apple a call first - and i'll use that as an argument as to why they should just let me upgrade anyway. without the hassel of reordering.

Amazon Ship Estimate: End of June

Hopefully it is just because they haven't updated their system with the new release info -- but I just ordered the family pack from Amazon ($149.00 with rebate, woo hoo) and it says "Delivery estimate: June 20, 2005 - June 22, 2005" ouch. I'll be checking back for an updated estimate...

VIDEO CARD IN MINI NOT SUPPORTED BY CORE IMAGE

As has been reported, there is a list of cards that support Core Image listed at: http://www.apple.com/macosx/features/coreimage/ . I have been waiting to buy a my first mac, the mac mini until tiger was announced so that I could get the up-to-date program. I now see that the video card the mini ships with, the ATI Radeon 9200 is not listed as able to handle Core Image. Is this correct? I could be stupid, but is Apple marketing a new OS, part of which cant be handled by their new hot product? PLEASE HELP, I WANT TO ORDER MY MINI, but I want to make sure I should. I know there has been rumors of a mini upgrade, but nothing definite, so what should I do.

Ok I’m about to order Tiger for £50 (not the £37 the Americans are getting it for, but that’s another thread) and I’ve already got iLife’04.

Should I upgrade to iLife’05 at the same time (£38) and what about iWork (£33), is it worth upgrading to replace MS Word (Office V.x)? I find Word so slow I’ve taken to using TextEdit and then using Word to format etc.

Interestingly Microsoft have announced a 'new' OS quite recently; Microsoft Windows XP N.

The N means it dosnt come with Media Player, supposedly to give other music players a chance. hah. quite pathetic. Media Player is so pants anywho, back in my windows days i was a Winamp guy

when i got my mac i actually searched for "Winamp for OSX"

You paid for Panther and you got Panther. No one ripped you off.

If you paid for Tiger and then didn't receive it you could say you were ripped off, but you didn't.

That is the stupidest thing I have read.

One: Apple rep said "if Tiger is released in two weeks" it's free. Guess he was playing word games. He should have said shipped in two weeks. He also told me it wasn't out and that he didn't think it would be out for some time. Dangerously close to a lie there.

Two: 6 freaking days after I buy something it's outdated. Thanks Apple, great way to encourage switchers.

Three: The BBB (an independent third party) thought it was a rip-off and accpeted my complaint against Apple and the local Mac store. Nothing will come of it, but it's the thought that counts.

Did I get ripped? Damn right I did and only an Apple fanboy would deny it.

This is good news that we finally have the long awaited Tiger unleashed date, just 17 days to wait. Sadly Apple has not followed the trend with Mac OS X releases on the 24th. For some reason we are loosing protocol.

Sadly also the release date on the 29th is something that I had feared. I will be back on my diet research study, so won't be able to celebrate. My wife has to work that day. The 6pm timing for the party is earlier than the prior party times. Will need to be at the mall by around 4pm. Now to wonder if Steve will also have the 10% discount available.

Woah, you just bought a Mac mini last Thursday, but you somehow know about macrumors.com... Why didn't you use some common sense, and pay heed to all the rumors about Tiger release dates? Surely you could've gone 3 weeks without a Mac mini to save $129...

Edit:

I'm not saying you didn't get screwed. I mean, your example is the definition of screwed, but... You could have easily kept yourself from being screwed. Going to the BBB, visiting MacRumors, you are obviously a smart or at least concerned shopper, but you are about as responsible for getting screwed as much as Apple is.

Now, if you had bought the computer without doing any prior research, then it'd be a different story, but you knew Tiger was on its way.

Besides, you don't expect Microsoft to give everyone who bought a computer 3 weeks before Longhorn came out to give them Longhorn for free, do you?

It's a budget computer dude, people don't seem to grasp the implications of that.

One would think with a new Apple Computer ( mini ) just released a month ago Tiger's core image would support the MacMini. and visa/versa :)

The list of supported cards is just a few of the supported cards imho.

plus, people don't seem to realize that Tiger will make their machine seem (in many cases) faster than it was before, even a non-core image system like the mac mini

Question about licensing

I noticed that iWork was the first low end software release form Apple that required a security key. Does this mean we can expect to have to enter a code to install Tiger ? Does Apple no longer trust its faithful consumer base ? :(

In the USA at least they're offering a bundle of Tiger and iLife and also a bundle of Tiger, iLife and iWork. I don't recall the price, but it was a good saving.

edit: here it is. "A promotion is also being offered with iLife '05, iWork '05, and Tiger for $249." from http://www.thinksecret.com/news/0504g5.html

First of all, whats the big deal? The computer was fine when you bought it, so why isn't it now? You didn't get screwed, you got exactly what you paid for, so quit acting like you didn't.

Second of all, there's some possiblity that if you complain enough, you can get tiger for free. You could also return the computer and buy a new one, only paying the restocking fee, which is probably ~$50. This fact could help you leverage them into giving you Tiger for the "up-to-date" price.

Thirdly, had you done a little research, you would have known the release was imminent, it was no secret, so why blame Apple?

Gosh, not to be rude or whatever, but you're sounding pretty darn immature.

P.S. There's a whole slashdot thread full of posts from people who faced the same situation as you, who, rather than cry about it, actually did something and ended up just fine. Some of them didn't even have to pay the $10 shipping charge! Behold, people you could learn something from: http://apple.slashdot.org/comments.pl?sid=145810&cid=12211742

Hi SadSwitcher,

Just because it's "official" doesn't mean it's gospel.
Call 'em up and sweet talk 'em a bit. You might get what you're looking for, just remember to hold off on the vinegar.
