First, can you say Goooooooogle. "mac news forum" and this is the first forum that came up.

Second, who am I supposed to give more credence to: Apple reps in person at their store or some anonymous fan site? Hmmmmmmm.

Third, don't worry about the $129. Could I have gone three weeks? Well... my laptops battery died last Monday. Turns out that after 3 years of use it developed a short in the power circuitry and fried my battery. So... I could either pay $250 or so to have it repaired and the battery replaced or I could switch to a Mac. Figured it was a good time to switch.

The more apporpriate question is could I have waited from Thurs to Tues... yes. And I would have if the worthless lumps at the Apple stores had been honest and forthcoming. Heck, I would have paid then and waited to take delivery. But no....

$129 may not be much to those of you with half a dozen computers and a couple iPods and software in abundance. It is to me and so I will not buy Tiger.

Does that matter? Not to you or Apple apparently.

But it will carry some weight with the people I do business with when I inform them of my experience. I can guarantee they'll remember that if they consider switching.

Those are all excuses, not reasons!

Have you ever heard the phrase Caveat Emptor-- the Buyer is responsible.

That said, you can:

1) Return to the Apple store and try to work out a reasonable compromise-- you will find that they are reasonable

2) Call Apple support & try the above.

3) Sell your mini to someone who doesn't need Tiger or will buy it for existing computers.

4) Accept the consequences of your decision to buy-- as a mature person would.

Settle down there buster.

That is the stupidest thing I have read...

...Did I get ripped? Damn right I did and only an Apple fanboy would deny it.

"Stupid is as stupid does" - Forrest Gump.

...Words from an intellect fanboy. :p

The Apple Store refused the return in person. I was told that if I was returning simply to get Tiger for free that they would not accept the return. Then I told them to keep Tiger and just give me my money back. They refused and told me to contact Apple directly if I had any more to say.

Told them I was going to the BBB. Left and contacted the BBB, complaining against the store and Apple.

ZildjianKX, I feel for you, that's an even worse story. That sounds like a CC charge reversal situation if you could swing it. I made the mistake of paying with a check which already cleared my bank (no stop payment possible).

I'm going to go have a smoke and calm down.

I can empathize, when your angry it clouds everything else. I'm not sure if I could have done it either, but would have not mentioned the real reason for the return. Especially not mention anything about Tiger.

The Mac mini is a good computer. A good place to start with using a Mac. The more important thing is that you begin to enjoy the use of your Mac mini. You are getting a lot of other free software like iLife and iWork, that most of us have had to pay. Hopefully later in the year you can afford to purchase Tiger.

Two: 6 freaking days after I buy something it's outdated. Thanks Apple, great way to encourage switchers.

erm, did your reseller tell you that Tiger would not be shipping? I'm not really the most up to date kinda mac user (still using my ancient 867 G4 powerbook and 10.2.8) but even I was able to check here and Apple's site to find out that a new OS was due. It is not Apple's responsability to hold you close to the breast.

BTW, my 2-year-old OS isn't 'out-of-date' as it still runs the software that I bought it to run, your's will too.

not any more ! anyone think you'd want a free copy of longhorn with it too ?

I know "not any more"; that's the point I was trying to make. I said that iLife '04 un-bundled the iLife apps from OS X, as in, iPhoto 2 came with Panther or Jaguar, iPhoto 4 does not.

Perfect!

Couldn't have said it any better!!!!!

I had a similar "getting screwed" situation when i got my iBook. I got an 800Mhz G4 12-inch. Shortly after getting it, the 1Ghz came out. I was annoyed.

But you know what I said to myself?

"Shut up. Stop whining. You have one of the best computers in the world running one of the best OSs in the world. Shut up and enjoy it."

Remember, that is what I said to MYSELF.

1) They refused this AM read all my posts.
2) Apple support said I had to deal with the store
3) Already shopping it around to people.
4) It's buyer beware up right up to the point where the sales rep lies. BBB 101, try learning it. A mature person would know that.

New Wallpaper

Its nice to know that also updated the wallpaper again, I thought they had ran out of ideas.

Have you guys noticed the NEW AQUA desktop picture too? It also looks very sweet.

Just look on the videos for one of the new features.

Darn, I just bought a 2005 Jetta and the new 2006's are coming out. What do I do? Should I call the BBB?

This situation is the same as any Windows O/S..with one HUGE exception

Windows XP Pro retail costs $269.99 (Amazon)
XP upgrade cost $189.00 (Amazon)
Tiger 10.4 cost $129.99

Think about it..

The more I read this guys posts the more I think he's a troll. Apple didn't screw anybody. They announced almost a year ago that Tiger would ship in the first half of 2005; to anybody with sense that means April or May. So, unless you live under a rock like a troll, you had to know the release of this OS was imminent, it's only been talked about on every tech web site in existance. Wow, I guess Apple should just arrange their release dates to accomidate your arrogance. Go cry your river elsewhere; I hear Gateway is coming out with a new buget PC; it even comes with Windows XP SP2!!! You at least won't have to worry about Longhorn coming out a week after you buy it.

I for one will absolutely not buy Tiger. I'm a switcher who bought a Mac mini last Thursday...just on the wrong side of the Apple Up-To-Date cutoff. Thanks for nothing Apple. I feel like I've just been screwed with my pants on.

Since you use your mouth hole for spewing a bunch of sh*t, it does not surprise me that you are able to be screwed with your pants on.

Pay for the software you want, otherwise you have no right to bitch about it. I ordered the family pack to pay my just dues, even though you have been able in the past to install OS X on multiple computers.

EDU Online Orders Come With Box?

I think I am going to order online with my EDU discount instead of going to the apple store event. However does anyone know if I will get a full boxed version of the OS, or just a DVD in a paper sleeve?

I'm stuck in a loop!

This is on the "Canadian" version of the Apple Store website. I'm trying to buy Tiger bundled with iLife and iWork (Discount)

www.apple.com/ca —> Store —> Mac OS X Tiger (top of page) —> Experience More & Save —> Mac OS X Tiger —> Experience More & Save...

It works on the US site.

Anybody can help me find a link out of this loop? Maybe I should simply order by phone.

Or maybe the rebate is automatically applied when you purchase all 3 products. :/

Note: The "Experience More & Save" picture on the canadian site displays the same price as the US store. Probably a mistake.

Have you counted yet how many times you'd said: Tiger at WWDC? ;)

that can't stop me from being content haha? can it? lol.. i dunno it just seemed wwdc to me.. don't get too excited though.. SOMETHING related to tiger may come out at wwdc.. a new feature? who knows? hehe

Yes you should if:

1) The salesperson lied to you about both the impending release of the 2006's and about the upgrade policy.
2) The dealership refused to honor its return policy.

Perhaps this is a better link for you though.

I'm sorry, am I supposed to assume that the sales person in question is the only reliable source for Jetta? Or do you think maybe I could use some common sense and conclude even before confering with others that there is a new model coming soon? Try this: accept your situation, stop running off at the mouth and fingers, and enjoy what you purchased. There's no excuse for ignorance! Figure it out.

You and xsnightclub and 4God seem to miss the point.

The Sales rep lied. Intentionally or not I don't know.
The Store refused to honor its stated return policy.

Those have nothing to do with anything you're saying. If the sales rep had said "I don't know" and the store had honored its return policy I would not be posting as the problem would have been solved.

This is business ethics 101. If I screw up in a purchase it's my problem. If they do.... then in your world apparently its still my problem.
