Well, same with AirTags and Apple, but I trust Apple more. BUT I also don't care – I've got Ring stuff anyway. So wherever you go with your Tile, expect Amazon to be the 1st to know!

It depends what you mean by "more open". if you are a company that provides 3rd party headphones, you sure can add it to find my. If you want to have find my and your own network then I am not interested in your product. There is a reason I never bought a tile. I don't know who they are and what they are doing with my data. Until they give me a reason not to, right now I only trust Apple. Tracking is a very tricky subject as it is, having multiple networks tracking a person makes Apple's security worthless. What other reason, other than collecting data, would a company need a secondary network for? They're forced to choose Find My or Tile. Apple doesn't allow them to put their devices on Find My and have them on their own network. Apple notes this is to ensure the privacy aspect of it all...
It would have been nice for them to be more open with this so we could add all kinds of stuff to it like our third party headphones and etc, but that might come later we shall see.
No one -- not even Tile -- claimed that Apple has a monopoly....thus proving Apple doesn't have a monopoly. (unsaid)
So why doesn't tile allow its trackers to be used on the findMy network? Is it a hardware thing? So what if users ditch the premium paid app from tile, shouldn't that be their choice? It sounds like tile is taking choice away from its customers instead of expanding it. They could always join Samsung trackers, everyone is always saying how Samsung sells so many phones. Oh wait, their trackers only work with Samsung phones, snap
This is quite a good explanation video that I think you’ll both enjoyThey can do that, but it would not be backwards compatible with existing Tiles that don't have the right chip inside. Even Chipolo has only one model that is Find My friendly, the others they sell are not compatible - buyer beware.
A duck? ReallySo, it will work more or less ok inside flats.
Still looks like a duck to me, but YMMV.
LOL you think Apple is letting devices use it for free?So why doesn't tile allow its trackers to be used on the findMy network? Is it a hardware thing? Tile would need a secondary network as they already invested in building it out... It wouldn't be a good thing to tell their customer base you can buy Tile X with Find My support that doesn't support their network in any capacity. It depends what you mean by "more open". if you are a company that provides 3rd party headphones, you sure can add it to find my. Yeah, and isn’t it convenient that the documentation and packaging appears to have been around for a couple years, but Apple just didn’t release AirTags? It’s almost as if Apple allowed time for Tile to “git gud” or at least make a try.But AirTag rumors have been around for years.
Tile is about ONE “Amazon Basics Trackmate” away from. bankruptcy.First Tile avoids doing FindMy integration because Apple is a monopoly that stifles competition and does not play fair. Then teams up with Amazon for inferior functionality. Yup, that makes sense. Amazon has never acted as a monopolistic bully to stifle competition.![]()
Well, a new version might support that cross platform “Thread” networking. Not sure if they’re even considering. adding it to the old.Ring had promised to support Apple HomeKit years ago. I actually bought a Ring Pro Doorbell because of this. Now it seems they have dropped all plans for HomeKit support.
The problem is everyone has become lawsuit happy and in general people are dumb. Although Tile may never do anything nefarious, Apple can not claim that "find my" is safe and then allow companies to promote their product as "find my" and then allow another company to collect tracking data (through their own network). What happens if Tile sells your data to say an insurance company to use against you in court when you thought you bought a "Find my" tracker that Apple says is secure? Now. I am not claiming Tile would do this but if Apple allows Tile to do this, then any app developer would have the same right to do so. Apple is just rightfully protecting themselves from liable.Tile would need a secondary network as they already invested in building it out... It wouldn't be a good thing to tell their customer base you can buy Tile X with Find My support that doesn't support their network in any capacity.
I don't think Tile supporting both Find My and Tile networks on the same device undermines security as much as you suggest though. The user buying Tile would be well aware of the additional network it is exposed to and if they prefer to have just Find My only they could buy something else -- including an AirTag. The Tile shouldn't have access to "search" Find My network in any capacity to weaken the security of the Find My network (but no "tracker" can do this -- including an AirTag). Essentially the Tile would broadcast its "ping" onto both networks independently.
I prefer Apple for their privacy as well, but I can see both sides here.
That’s exactly what Chipolo is doing, though. Chipolo may intend to pad their bottom line that will allow them to build out their own network while becoming the premier “AirTags with a hole” provider. It wouldn't be a good thing to tell their customer base you can buy Tile X with Find My support that doesn't support their network in any capacity.
I kept looking at that picture and wondering why their wallet and keys were in a bowl of grits.Wow, what wallet is that in the picture? It looks incredible!
I know. Never.First Tile avoids doing FindMy integration because Apple is a monopoly that stifles competition and does not play fair. Then teams up with Amazon for inferior functionality. Yup, that makes sense. Amazon has never acted as a monopolistic bully to stifle competition.![]()
Why? Or are you being sarcastic.I hope this technology is open to Apple as well or that would be unfair competition
I being silly using Tiles argument that Apple has an unfair advantage and asking Congress to look into itWhy? Or are you being sarcastic.
Airtags have been rumored for 2 years or more. You don’t think that had something to do with this?Amazon sidewalk and tile has been in the works since last year. They didn’t all of a sudden come together because of airtags 😂 maybe it will push Apple to use the U1 chip of the HomePod to use with airtags.
Because instead of buying them they can harvest all their IP and make their own tracker for less. That makes sense — but why not make an offer before this partnership deal? Wouldn’t having this deal make Tile more valuable?
