Were Apple fans. I love all my Apple products, but I am now done with this company that is trying to sue there way into a monopoly. I will keep what I have, but will not be purchasing anything new from them. I know I will get negative comments since I didn't give Apple praise, and the faithful do not look past the :apple: symbol.

Since your done with Apple now we won't be seeing you in these forums anymore?

Be interested to hear how you think Apple can sue their way into a monopoly. Last I read, Asus, Gigabyte, Logitech, etc were't copying Apple & making $$$ from it. Also, despite being the richest company that makes the best computers in the world I don't think Apple can sue Micosoft & the millions of PC users as to create a monopoly.

And who's fault is that?

Just quickly because I don't want to spend too much time on this:
- The first image does not show an image of a Samsung store, it has been taken at en Expo and the background was prepared by the organizers, not Samsung
- The power adapter design has been used before
- The ~30 pin connector is nothing that Apple invented (i.e. their proprietary design is based on other similar designs of other ~30 pin connectors, and Samsung has in no way copied Apple)
Sorry, what are you suggesting?

Maybe you should study Synergetics

Good win for Apple. But am I the only one that thinks 1b is a drop in the bucket? Samsung made 5.9b just last quarter in profits.

For some they could be tired of Apples attitude even when they are right to a degree. My issue with their attitude is in part with issues like these, now with You Tube, Google, Adobe Flash, Blu-ray, living too far in the future etc... they also have many strong points of where they have taken tech today. Just feels that we are often reading about an issue Apple has with another company all too often.

I love this quote. Apple's wars with other companies makes it suck for us. Not being able to use flash, not having a seemless connection to facebook, browsers not working smoothly, and hardware like chargers, and headphones that seem to work with any other phone fail to work just because Apple has a problem with another company.

Im cheering for Apple, but if they want to win they need start building BETTER products not just try to break their pockets

You cannot buy apps from other places other than the App Store. You cannot use any other service for micro payments other than Apple's system. You cannot use another cloud storage system other than Apple's iCloud. You cannot develop an app that replaces functionality provided by Apple (even if your solution is a million times better).

This is a really bad analogy. You're not asking a company to sell products made by another company.

The point is, most companies, maybe all companies control what you can and can't do in some regard. What Apple is doing, whether it's on the App Store, iTunes or their physical stores, is managing the consumer experience. There is nothing wrong or unusual about that - it's true for just about every consumer product out there. And your choice is always there to do something different. Don't like what Apple's doing "controlling" you from buying an app from Amazon, then you can choose to stop using your Apple product.

If your expectation is that you can do anything you want, have anything you want, you are going to live a really difficult life.

Controlling the experience is one thing. They consequently control the flow of money too. So you can look at it both ways.

There's no reason to go all philosophical here...

I see, you gave up ;) good show!

I gave up? I did exactly what you did - post a nonsensical response devoid of any arguments. You gave up a long time ago unable to form a plausible argument.

Great response. These people are idiots. You can't rip off an entire companies product line or Eco-system and not pay up. As we all know, apple was destined to win this case. They learned from the vs. Microsoft case way back... Stop biting!!! You want to use someone else's technology?? Pay up!!

This is very good overall and shows the major flaw of all Asian culture -- no creativity! They just try to copy, treat their citizens as serfs and overwhelm competition in volumes. Japan lost when we invented a weapon they could never imagine and we nuked them.

This time it did not come to military action and only civil. I hope Apple buys Samsung outright, fire their exec board and have a few Korean American ex-patriots runs the show over there.

Wow! Are you serious? I guess so. That is the American way.

Does anyone know how the Big 3 became the top cars sellers? Because of the bombs dropped on Japn as you mentioned (made by european scientist by the way), and then bombing car factories in european countries.

So Apple is doing what we have always done in America. Instead of making the best product we just stop others from trying to do so.

I love apple products and own most of them. Something about this patent system and the court decision doesn't seem right. Watch this short video and I know its an excerpt of a bigger interview but it says a lot. Apple is one of the most profit making company and if it continues to innovate people will buy their products rather than any other.

I don't think I would take things to this much of an extreme. I am very torn about all of this. I love having a lot of software similarities on different platforms, tap to zoom etc, with enjoying the choice of device that I buy, not having to buy a device only because it has that one feature etc. The only thing that keeps me from jumping on the bandwagon here for Samsung is this:

1) It took Apple a few years to design and produce the original iPhone.

2) It took Samsung less than 3 months after to submit their "suddenly inspired new design".

3) Apple offered to licence the patents to Samsung and Samsung refused.

Ironically now the new devices by SS and others, share similar designs to the ORIGINAL iPhone styling, but iPhone has since moved into the glass rectangular brick. Is the brick style patented too?

I guess we will just have to wait and see what the long term backlash of all of this is.

THIS^^^^^ is the reason for birth control.

Samsung does a lot of things. They sell electronic parts (lots to Apple), TVs, printers, lots of things that are not related to electronics at all. Making phones is just one part of their business. Newer phones are not included in this case because they are too new, so there might be more action. And Samsungs phone profits are not _all_ due to copying Apple.

Steve wouldn't have done this. He probably would have written something like:

"We got 'em!

Sent from my iPad" and then go back to doing Steve-stuff.

Still, isn't a lot of this copy and paste from the press release?

LOL....I miss Steve tooo

Just as a point of contention: With Apple controlling almost all of the smartphone patents, Asus, Gigabyte etc all design things OTHER than smart phones. They design PCs, laptops, motherboards, external accessories etc. If any of them tried to suddenly break into the market, they would find themselves smothered in patents and restrictions to the point that is is not fiscally logical to attempt it. Especially now since something as logical as a device that fits in a hand that is a rectangular shape is now owned by Apple as a patent.

I guess the next step for companies is to design a 3-d banana phone.

Verdict

Lets keep in mind that Apple offered to license to android. andriod choose to steal. I respect innovation, not thievery.:)

Controlling the flow of money? You mean in the sense that they're a capitalistic, profit and growth driven company selling products and services that generate profits? And how is that different from other companies in the business to make money?

I wasn't being philosophical - I really do see, especially on these forums, a lot of people who think they're entitled to do whatever they want (be it with their iPhones or otherwise).

Unless you know what the terms are - you can't really comment. Just like we really can't comment on why Apple didn't accept Samsung's FRAND agreements.

The notion of "fair" is subjective and clearly if you're the company that needs to pay, you want the lowest price. And if you're selling, you want to maximize your revenue.

I wonder if Samsung will magically start having issues with iPhone/iPad processors.

Apple, I know you guys needed these, but they are defective and we stopped production. Sorry about that.

I wondered that too. It's got to be weird for both Apple and Samsung's purchasing agents and salesmen - those normal people trying to do their jobs. Relationships between these people have to be more normal - without all the angst, yet they're stuck in the middle of a pretty harsh battle.

^ This is one of the more ignorant comments I've read on here.

You are obviously entitled to your opinion but from that statement alone I think that you're woefully uneducated as to the process of patenting technology and protecting ideas. These safe guards are VITAL to a companies identity and IP and if another company wants to use that specific idea... they MUST pay a royalty. Or... they can also choose to not use it and pay nothing.

OR they can go ahead and copy the design, feel and function of the idea... redress it and risk infringement.

That is exactly what Samsung did in this case... with multiple patents over a long period of time. It was absolutely wrong and if this verdict isn't enough evidence to sway your opinion... just wait until the full transcripts and court documents are released.

This verdict will inspire SO MUCH innovation in the long run and THAT will be healthy for the market, the industry as a whole but most importantly... US. The people who embrace and love new, exciting and innovative technology.

This also means that Apple will have to CONTINUE to innovate and build upon the tech foundation they already have. Although in the short term this will give Apple a much needed "leg up"... this ruling will ultimately force other companies to "think differently" which will in turn... keep Apple on it's "toes".

This is a win for everyone... even, ironically, Samsung - so long as they understand what this means for their design and development teams along the road ahead.

The next 5 years or so... WILL... be interesting indeed.

Where did you get innovate from? When was the last time Apple innovated anything?

And before anyone answers, a few tweaks, and slight bumbs in speed do not count.
