The one thing about this whole Samsung trial that fAndroids seem to be overlooking is the fact that Apple had tried to talk to Samsung to avoid litigation. This could've been a very different situation. Sammy just dirt want to listen. Hopefully google is smarter.

They each wanted to have leverage when going into negotiations and the only way to get that was with a trial. Apple now has the leverage.

Motorola offered to license the patents to Apple, and like Samsung they refused.

The simple fact is that in many ways, Apple and Google mesh nicely together, they get a lot of benefits off of each other.

Perhaps Google should have considered that before launching their "A Future We Do Not Want" broadside against Apple.

you seriously think Apple can just spring up a search engine that would counter/surpass Google in a relatively short time frame?

Who said "spring up" or "relatively short time frame?" I certainly didn't. Apple would be crazy to not have been working on search for some years now already. Refer to inside builds of OS X running concurrently on Intel processors for a long time before Apple actually switched to Intel. In this world you can't rely on a competitor to provide an essential service. See Microsoft Office. Or a partner-turned-competitor. See Google.

if you aren't getting paid to make comments like this, I shudder to think the other possibilities of your agenda

Oh please. I'm an Apple customer and an AAPL shareholder. It's in my best interest to see Apple do well and its competitors do not as well.

The question remains: what's the agenda of those who come to an Apple forum to bash Apple day in and day out? If you're looking for paid astroturfing, you may want to check into that.

And while I used to be a big fan of Google, their reach has now become alarming. One could walk away from Apple at any time. Good luck walking away from Google (and everything they know about you).

You do realize there are more than one search engine to choose from on Apple's devices don't you ?

ok not so sound like a d1ck but

you do realize there's something called reading?

"Koolaid?" Really? Why shouldn't Apple have its own search engine? Why should Apple rely on Google for search while Google picks Apple's pockets with Android?

Do you people really believe Google is the only company on the planet that can design and run an effective search service?

Hi Larry, it's Tim.
Oh, hi Tim, how are you?
I'm great, how are you?
Well I've been better. You know, we really need to talk about things.
Yeah, that's why I'm calling. I just wanted to say a few things about the whole Samsung situation.
Yeah, what is it?
Well I just want to say go **** yourself Larry. Go **** yourself you lying, thieving son of a b***h.
Ok, bye Tim
Goodbye Larry

Yes I do. Do you realize the post I quoted implied apple needed google for a search engine ?

:)

Where?

Perhaps you believe that web search is some kind of black magic only Google has mastery of.

Perhaps you're wrong

As Google's primary spokesman on this forum, you should hope you're right.

He is right, google isn't going anywhere.

How is google picking Apples Pockets? Its somehow Googles fault lots of Handset makers and customers prefer Android to iOS?

Well, right now. Google is the best search engine out there, nothing comes close.

Oh yeah, when it comes to Data Centers, search engine software, and overall experience in these matters.

Microsoft/Google run 5-6 times the amount of Data Centers Apple do.

And for People saying " Oh well Apple will just partner with Microsoft and use Bing! ". Fat Chance, I doubt Microsoft gives a **** about Apple.

Yes I do. Do you realize the post I quoted implied apple needed google for a search engine ?

:)

No, I sure don't realize that. The post your are quoting was questionning Apple's ability to make their own search engine, one that would be as viable as other options out there and using Google as an example.

Where did you read the implication he meant Apple needed Google specifically ?

Maybe you want to bold that part for us ?

Who's drinking the koolaid here? Why does Apple need Google exactly? They're already dumping Google Maps. They could easily switch to Bing for their search engine with no ill effect.

Seems with Apple's share of the mobile computing market (counting the iPad) that Google is very much the one in need of Apple.

It was foolish for them to start a war. And yes, it was Google that started that war.

ok not so sound like a d1ck but

I read quit well. I replied to a post that quoted the above post.

And I'll let you slide on breaking a macrumors rule on circumventing the profanity filter.

Apple has zero leverage against the Android OS itself. The lawsuit Apple won was against Samsung software and hardware, not Android.

I think at least some of the utility patent violations came from core Android, not Samsung's add-on stuff.

Ah, like how Motorola tried to negotiate a deal on Motorola on the 7 non FRAND patents that Apple violated, and Apple refused to pay?

Its somehow Googles fault lots of Handset makers and customers prefer Android to iOS?

By giving away their product for free?

And of course "handset makers" prefer Android to iOS.

Well, right now. Google is the best search engine out there, nothing comes close.

AltaVista was once the best.

Google is by no means invincible in search.

Microsoft/Google run 5-6 times the amount of Data Centers Apple do.

That's nothing $100+ billion in cash can't solve

And for People saying " Oh well Apple will just partner with Microsoft and use Bing! ". Fat Chance, I doubt Microsoft gives a **** about Apple.

To the contrary, Microsoft would love to have Bing as the default on iOS.

I'm not sure of understand. Apple has won a trial against SAMSUNG and Google has to pay royalties? Since when?

----------

And the post above talked about Apple building his own search engine.

No it didn't. You're talking about a different post he made.

Can't you read the quote ? Where does it use the word build ?

I think it's good to see both CEO's willing to speak to each other over their companies professional differences and I hope they can come to a resolution on the disputes without having to take it to the end of a court case, like with Samsung. I say that because I'd like to see better cooperation and integration between Google and iOS in the future. Gmail and Google calendar are my primary tools in that field, yet Apple hardware, and OS's are my related tools, and I don't want to give up either of them. I'd rather they play more nicely together.

And it is interesting that Motorola is being investigated for abuse of FRAND patents.
