maybe thermonuclear is not a Big Bang Sue and Destroy move but a Slowly Suck Away Loads of Cash from your Competitor with every sale they have as well as with your sales. Android Phones already are selling for less than value and if Apple takes a cut for each device sold, not based on selling price, it is a Win:Win for Apple.

You mean a bit like microsoft does to Apple?

You have no idea.

Perhaps they were discussing notification centre?

Who's drinking the koolaid here? Why does Apple need Google exactly? They're already dumping Google Maps. They could easily switch to Bing for their search engine with no ill effect.

Seems with Apple's share of the mobile computing market (counting the iPad) that Google is very much the one in need of Apple.

It was foolish for them to start a war. And yes, it was Google that started that war.

you seriously think Apple can just spring up a search engine that would counter/surpass Google in a relatively short time frame?

if you aren't getting paid to make comments like this, I shudder to think the other possibilities of your agenda

You do realize there are more than one search engine to choose from on Apple's devices don't you ?

You do realize that the OP was talinkg about BUILDING a new search engine from scarp, don't you?

I read quit well. I replied to a post that quoted the above post.

And I'll let you slide on breaking a macrumors rule on circumventing the profanity filter.

I'm not sure of understand. Apple has won a trial against SAMSUNG and Google has to pay royalties? Since when?

And the post above talked about Apple building his own search engine.

By giving away their product for free?

And of course "handset makers" prefer Android to iOS.

AltaVista was once the best.

Google is by no means invincible in search.

That's nothing $100+ billion in cash can't solve

To the contrary, Microsoft would love to have Bing as the default on iOS.

Ah, didn't mean handset makers, mis worded that.

Google is not, but so far I have yet to see antone come close.

100b in cash, and years and years and years.

Microsoft won't and does not care about ios. They will most likely push bing on windows tablets. Microsoft isn't looking to be buddy buddy with apple, they have every intension of getting a big chunl of the tablet market.

And I'm glad android is free and open source.

By your logic

Apple is now the "best"

Apple isn't invincible.

Enough said right there.

I recently switched to the Nokia Lumia 900 and since Microsoft introduced their Windows Phone I have been impressed with what they have done on that platform, and with their 7.5 Mango update and the introduction of the Lumia 900 I was ready to make the jump.

I feel like Microsoft (and Nokia) put in a great amount of effort to come up with a UI that is completely original and unlike others in both software and hardware.
what does this have to do with the story?

100b in cash, and years and years and years.

You may not have read about Apple's new data center expansions?

Anyone who thinks Apple couldn't get their foot in the door in search is delusional.

And as I said before, Apple would be crazy not to have plans in the works, just as they're now working to outsource more component manufacturing to companies other than Samsung.

Reliance on a competitor is a very bad thing. Apple should not be dependent on Google or Microsoft for search.

Microsoft won't and does not care about ios.

Why would you think this? Apple has a huge share in mobile computing. Almost all those users are going to Google. You don't think Microsoft would prefer they go to Bing?

I never said Apple is invincible. Straw man burns again.

I am just too tired to explain now...let me just say that device makers will flock into the hands of MS and other makers not touched by Apple's patents...and Google's ad-based business model for Android will blow up.

I have, and apples data center expansions can't compare to the data centers that google and microsoft already run.

apple just might have plans in the works. Does not mean they can match google.

Why do I think microsoft doesn't care about ios? Probably because they are launching big time into the tablet market themselves. I think they have every intention of hitting the tablet market in a big way with the surface, as well as oem tablets. Why would they help apple in a market they are trying to get into? Its not like they are straped for cash.

And it is interesting that Motorola is being investigated for abuse of FRAND patents.

The patents in the lawsuit launched this week are not FRAND patents though.

And investigations occurs because someone complained. Guess who that was... Anyway, the ITC reversed their infringement verdict against Apple.

The post you quoted didn't mention Apple needing Google. It was not responding to that part. Thus your own post was irrelevant.

Might want to follow your own advice there...

Omg, apple has a data center

Microsoft and google have dozens, each. All around the world

Yes!

Steve Jobs turning in his grave!

I doubt it, actually. This "talk" would be coming after a huge WIN for the Jobs strategy. It should be occurring to corporations around the world that, if they make an investment in Android without this agreement in place, a guarantee against further patent suits if the terms could be reached, then people will desert the platform because they don't know when it's no longer safe for them. All that does is give the potential of a "mutually-beneficial" solution. Apple, and all companies, will not look good in court if they just had no intention to settle at all. This meeting, if true, will be good if an agreement can be reached, and if it can't, it's evidence of good intentions.

I am just too tired to explain now...let me just say that device makers will flock into the hands of MS and other makers not touched by Apple's patents...and Google's ad-based business model for Android will blow up.

OMG, thank you SO much for that!

I seriously needed a good laugh today! :D

Ugh, Tim.

Why would you EVER trust anything Larry Page says? Google: once a liar, always a liar.

I was close. Less than one week. Now Google will pay to "give away" each Android installation.

I think Tim will make his decisions based how how removed Eric is from things these days. Larry needs to find a way to remove Eric. Nice new stream of income for APPL.

Goodbye Eric. You deserve it. :apple:

That's.... Very interesting... But I wish Steve was here to...

You're not alone. :apple:

Your post history speaks for itself. You like to play that card, right? Tough luck when it becomes your own achilles heel. No straw man needed.

A straw man is a straw man, no matter what my "history" is.

You can't fabricate an argument I never made (ie "Apple is invincible") and then refute it.

Nice try.

Without Microsoft there would be no iCloud.
Microsoft's Azure platform powers the back end from the NC data center. ;)

Great, so use the Azure platform for a native iOS search function. Doesn't matter how Apple does it, just get off Google's teat for search.
