This thread is of course political because what Tim Cook said shows how uneducated and ignorant Tim really is. He insulted a whole continent.
But he is right though! Europe is a big mess. And so is Android.
funny to look at this sad reality
http://www.boredpanda.com/americans-place-european-countries-on-map/
I bet any other citizen of the western world asked to map out Asia will face a similar or worse performance Africa Middle-East pacific islands etc...
The whole world's a mess to be honest. I'd rather live on this side of the world than in America though, that's for sure!

That is implying that society is advancing and standards only grow higher with time passing by. To my knowledge that isn't true. Slave holding comes and goes and comes again and goes again. That's if you evaluate it with today's standards, which is pretty unfair to say the least. It was still a pretty advanced society given the standards back then and surely a great contribution to the ideas which shaped the western world.
Barroso was elected by the European Parliament which was elected and represents the EU citizens. Note that in the European Parliament there are 7 political groups (+1 Non-Inscrits), of which 2 groups have always been the most influential, so I fail to see the "1000000000 of political parties" you're talking about. Are you insane ? Who have voted for Barroso ? Did slovakian citizens have a referendum about helping Greece ?
Since forever. It's part of Central America, which is part of the North American continent, not the South American one.

Slovakia joined the EU after a referendum which was approved by 93.7% of voters. Of course every country which enters the EU accepts to relinquish part of its sovereignity, that's what Slovakia decided to do. That's also the reason I don't want my country to join and the reason in my country in our referendum to join we voted no.
If you mean "monotonic advancement", I agree that it's not the case and there are many "setbacks", but consider your own post, in which you describe "modern slavery". You imply it being a bad thing. You should ask yourself why. The reason is that you have much higher standars than the standards of Ancient Greece, where slavery was considered perfectly normal and not a bad thing at all. That is implying that society is advancing and standards only grow higher with time passing by. To my knowledge that isn't true.
The problem is that European Union includes super rich and also super poor countries.
United States do not.
Then follow the post I was answering to and follow the chain up until you figure it out.I fail to see what Slovakia has to do with the Cook's statement.
The Ancient Greeks already knew about the principle of the Herons Ball Steam Turbine. But since they had slaves to do the work for them, there was no need to develop steam engines and start the Industrial Revolution a couple of centuries earlier. Today we have chinese migrant workers fleeing from the country into the big cities, where they live and work without any citizen rights. Again we have put a halt on further developing robotics, because we have so many cheap hands available. Now for whom is this comparison unfair, past humans or present humans?
Those number are far from Meaningless. As you have explained in many parts of Europe the iPhone is so expensive, that Apple have priced themselves out of the market.
Yes many of those Androids are lower cost (100-200), but some would be higher end phones.
In Australia I see lots of Androids like the s4 and Nexus 4/5 that are not low end phones, but do cost less than the iPhone. Many people who could buy and iPhone are choosing an Android (Many are still choosing iPhone also).
The most interesting think about that data is not the absolute number, but the change Y/Y. Android gained in every part of the world surveyed.
Note: Portugal is not including in this data. They are not in the "EU5"
Yeah... And the United states of great healthcare, NSA, Snowden percecution, school shootings should really be the way to go...
It's not the iPhone that's expensive, it's us, we are poor.
I'm jealous, you seam to be so young.
Yes, it is stupid to blame a whole continent for what is wrong with Android. But honestly, that's not even the most idiotic thing I've heard today. Its the opening day of the Sotchi Olympics and every five seconds someone is saying something insane about Russia on TV.
Don't you people never watch the news? Not even The Daily Show! People are making uneducated and idiotic comments all the time. Some top U.S. diplomat for Europe just said: "**** the EU". And you wanna tell me, that "many things under one name" is the worst you've heard in years?
This is great.
The BEST analogy, ever.
Europe is a ****ing mess; disastrous even.

??? The standard of living in the US is higher on average than in the EU. According to the UN we are #3. Norway is #1 and Australia is #2. Neither are in the EU, though Norway is in "Europe."

Australia and Norway are mineral-rich countries with relatively small populations. Similarly, North Dakota has the lowest unemployment rate in the US.
Anyway, Tim Coom wasn't disparaging the EU or Europe. He was saying that it is wrong to view Android a single monolithic entity, just as it is wrong to view Europe as a single monolithic entity. Both terms are convenient umbrellas for diverse collections of entities that share some traits in common but are as different as they are similar.
