I actually like how different companies use different style for their Android UI when you still keep the same OS with your same apps and data. You get to choose whatever suits you better or whatever is prettier to you. When with iOS... well lets just say iOS is like some socialist country where there's not competition on market and you only have one choice and no diversity.

The other thing is that Windows pretty much was one thing. Android is like Europe. Europe was a name that somebody came up with for Americans who didn't understand that Europe was a lot of countries that weren't like U.S. states.

So, is he implying Americans are stupid, or Europeans think Americans are stupid? Either way that's got to be THE most stupid and worst analogy for a CEO of an international major electronics corporation to make.

And FYI mt Cook, Android 4.4 is a hell of a lot better then the God awful crap that iOS7 is/ was. And my Nexus 7 hasn't got any 'known issues' of faulty home buttons or power buttons and cost a hell of a lot less. Fact.

Hmm reading some of the political comments on here, it's clear some have no clue at all about what they are saying. Most likely through lack of education or knowledge, you should ask the people that live in these country's, you'll find things are very different to how they are interpreted by the rest of the world.

Dissing the EU is quit stupid Cook. A man in danger for failling trying to hard? Nothing new from Apple since Jobs went to paradise.

EU is not like the US a bounch of states under a president.

Every country is still a sovereign and independent country.

Greetings from DK

So EU like Android ? Then Apple is North Korea?

Seems stupidity just got a new name. Tim Cook

The standard of living in the US is higher on average than in the EU. ???

Hahahahahahahahaha YOU WISH :-D Most funny phrase today.

We dont have people without healthinsurance or people forced to sleep in the street.

And we actually have the FREEDOM OF SPEECH ... Not like the US where everything gets censored.

Please speak for yourself. If there would be a EU formed only from wealthy states as countries of benelux, scandinavian countries,uk,fr and germany then i would say we can compare the EU to US.

But EU also has central and eastern part where people can't even afford a trip to your country. In fact in most of the wealthier countries you have to pay to use the toilets (1,5E) and that is REALLY A LOT for people with average salaries of 300 euros per month.

Couldn't care less. The iPhone isn't about being big. That's what you reprobates don't understand.

Guess you're right, it's about user experience... Or was it just profit?

Reprobates? Tsjk... Even Tim does not go there...

It is obviously about profit, unless Samsung makes more then it's about UX. If people then say Android 4.4 has a better experience, we move to the 'but few people have it' argument. There's always a new argument when you already know where you want the conversation to go.

And stating:

why the experience on Android tablets is so crappy

Just shows a complete and utter lack of education and maturity, he's a friggin CEO of Apple and that's the best he could come up with? It's 'crappy'? Or is that how ALL American CEO's talk? Is that the level of education in America?

I would believe that if not for the fact I know it's not true when you look at Google and Amazon etc. I don't think Cook should speak for Apple anymore, he clearly isn't smart enough to engage with the press in an intelligent manner.

In what way is kit kat better? Both are fantastic mobile operating systems. iOS7 is beautiful in my opinion.

As a proud European and avid Apple user this is one of the most idiotic things I've heard this year.

He may meant it in a positive way? After all, Android is VERY capable.

And he doesn't seem to have a clue about the current crop of tablets. I, in addition to all kinds of iPads, also have an N7 2013. I certainly don't find it "crappy". It's just that I don't use it much because of the small screen. (7", particularly at 16:10 only, is just too small compared to 9.7".) Otherwise, it's a great little gadget with an excellent price/performance ratio.

He is catering to his audience. He wasn't hand picked by Steve jobs and the apple board by being dumb. Sorry you are smarter then the average person, it's something we have to deal with.

iOS 7 is ugly and breaks almost all sensible GUI design rules. It looks like android. Or worse, even. Apple made a huge mistake here.

Also, the USA isn't as united as claimed. There are so many states with inconsistent laws and services and whatnot. The USA is more like a bunch of countries tied together than you think.

I think the nexus 7 is awesome, but it benefits from being designed specifically with google apps and they look and work really well. Unfortunately there aren't that many third party apps available that aren't also available and often better iOS. And there are a ton of great apps designed for the iPad for which there is no android tablet version. I do think most cheaper android tablets do provide really crappy experiences.

Agreed - there are tons of cr@ppy Android tablets. But no sensible and educated person would buy a crappy cheap tablet with the cheap-but-excellent Nexus around.

As a European, I'm offended, being compared to Android! Just kidding, but also no one could have come up with the name for Europe for Americans as America did not exist at that time.

From a simple Wikipedia search:
... Εὐρώπη is first used as a geographical term in the 6th century BC, by Greek geographers such as Anaximander and Hecataeus.

And yet millions of people use and (gasp!) actually like Android. What exactly are "sensible GUI design rules"? Plenty of people disliked the Microsoft Bob look of iOS 6 & prior.

So what you're saying is that aesthetics are subjective?

Aesthetics are objective yet many claim their aesthetic taste as being the only proper UI design.

I just want the OS to get out of the way. I don't want to spend time tinkering on my phone or tablet. Set a customer wallpaper and be done. I get all the diversity I need from the many different apps I use on a regular basis.

From a simple Wikipedia search:

Well, I, as a European, have nothing against being compared to Android. After all, it's by far the most powerful OS. Much-much more versatile than iOS. It's only the hardware side that sucks with Android - something Apple shines at. Only some Android devices are worth purchasing (Note 3, N7 2013, G2 etc.)

It's similar. Europe has good, productive parts like Germany. US has good productive parts like California.

US has useless, freeloading parts like Alabama. Europe has useless freeloading parts like Greece.

Germany is an export driven economy. Without the freeloading parts of the EU to export to their economy would have fallen apart.

I don't see many people leaving Mexico trying to get into Europe.

Well done, you share a land border with Mexico. Go team USA.
