And it takes 28 countries of the EU to put them in a "fair" field with the USA even though they are technically much bigger. Europe has its UK like Samsung or Amazon that pays lip service to Android but does what the hell they want with their own money and following the EU directives they want. For every France and Germany powerhouse, the EU has low-rent states like Greece, Italy, and Spain... That are practically the Wild West... Just like a fair portion of Android devices are "plain junk" with the barest features to run the software. The difference between California and say Missippippi Is smaller than the UK vs Italy or Greece... Especially when you're running a business.

If you want to compare the USA to Apple, that's probably not bad. After all we're only 5% of the population.. But we have a lot more influence and wealth than our absolute size would have you think... In that respect The EU is only slightly bigger compared to world population.... There's a whole lot of people doing something else entirely because they can't pay-to-play!

Please, pay your gigantic debt to China first before claiming how superior and wealthy you are.

I have great Healthcare I pay for it myself.
Try it sometime instead of living off of others.

Yet you seem to be comfortable with paying for healthcare, while involuntarily sponsoring the defence budget of your country. That same budget is then used for monitoring you and bullying other countries.

I agree with Cook. Europe is one big mess. Too many nationalities, too many opinions ,too many languages and too many rulers here.

I wish Hitler would have won the ww2 and invaded my country and added it to the 3rd Reich so i would not have to live in this ******** and speak the language known only to 5m people. I would not ****ing mind to adopt as an official language german or french or english ..but no..it would be too simple.

In US people proudly say "I am an American ! From Texas". But in Europe it is different.
Nobody says " I am a European!" instead everybody say "I am a german (french,english,czech,slovak...)".

That's why we have problems with helping members of union (and yes **** you Greece and your Idiotakis , Retardakis, hairy dumb****s) because it is not europeans helping europeans...It is GREAT GERMANY helping POOR GREECE or POORER SLOVAKIA helping POOR GREECE.

It may take time to be honest, but Americans also don't talk about themselves as North American either which is a better comparison. I love standardising things though like driving on the right hand side (i'm English and want us to change), change everything to the metric system and last but not least everyone speak the same language. Maybe that's because i'm English, but I think it would be a step backwards if we all needed to speak German, Spanish or French.

I would also love Scotland and Wales to join us in Football too like the Olympics and have one national team under team GB/combined league system.

The problem is that European Union includes super rich and also super poor countries.

United States do not.

That is completely correct. The United States does not include several countries like EU.

Choose a single country to compare and discuss instead.

Also, US isn't in fantastic shape either. We are all doing so so at the moment. Sure some are worst than others, but economic downturn has effected everyone. Didn't a city (Detroit I think) go bankrupt in US?

I think this thread has gone AWOL. It's an endless discussion that won't come to anything other than perhaps that Tim Cooks choice of words could have been a little better to compare Android and iOs.

my 2 cents as it were

While I don't agree with those that find that Tim was dissing Europe (The European Union) I did find that Tim was not quite on the mark either.

There's a consolidation going on in the pool of Android OEM's, and Lenovo scooping up Moto is just the first. There isn't room for small players anymore (LG, HTC, Sony, et al).

Samsung, Lenovo, ZTE, Huawei stand to gain, and Sony, HTC, and LG are going to find it difficult catch a break.

In essence, there are going to be many fewer viable Android OEM's come the end of 2014 than today. Hardly the stability of the EU, but still the fragmentation.

One would think if you can afford a Apple Product you can pay for your own HealthCare.
As far as the rest of your POST I have no clue what that had to do with my HealthCare statement.
Guess what? I pay my own Mortgage, electricity,Plan for my retirement and pay for my own food how foolish of me

Yet you seem to be comfortable with paying for healthcare, while involuntarily sponsoring the defence budget of your country. That same budget is then used for monitoring you and bullying other countries.

I was thinking the same thing about the Russians. They are bashing them for no reason just because Obama got bent over them holding Snowden.
That may be true for american television, but here in Germany we are supposed to hate Putin, only because he is in charge of Russia. I don't know, somehow we think he is an dictator and needs to be overthrown.
EU is Hitler's plan B.
Losing the war and committing suicide was his plan A, of course. :p

He should've said, Android is like the 7 Kingdoms, Samsung = the Lannisters, Motorola = the Starks, HTC = the Tyrells, MS = Daenerys Targaryen coming to get her throne back with her Surface Pro dragons

The rest of Europe doesn't have a clue what Portugal is going through. Countries like Germany, France, UK are just too wealthy to imagine it. Our political class is disgusting. TV commenters are ignorant and corrupt, and so are the Ministers. The leader of the opposition is a nutjob; the PM told us to emigrate.
I can assure you, our politicians and commenters in Germany aren't any less corrupt or nuts than yours are. There isn't a political solution to every economic problem. That's why it is kind of unimportant who governs. The economy has to find ways to organize itself.

You guys are funny. Tim's comments were just his way of saying android is fragmented by dozens of manufacturers and no two android devices are totally alike, very similar to how European countries are the same. He wasn't insulting Europeans, if you take his comments as an insult I would say you're being silly.

The apple vs android being a repeat of apple vs Microsoft is a dumb argument. The markets are extremely more complex and very different now. Microsoft never had to worry about its OEM partners ruining the core experience of windows, google is having to deal with that.

I for one can't wait to see all the Tim bashing people on here singing his praises when apple shows off their new stuff this year. All the people saying he is a bean counter who has no ability to lead apple to innovation don't know squat about it. Apple is going to wow the world thus year, just watch.

Very sily remark. In America millions of people are extremely poor.

I'm very lucky to be be Dutch in this context, welfare, money from the state IF I would loose my job, all kinds of possibilities to get back on my feet IF I would loose everything. If you don't have the cash in America you basically have a huge problem. In many European states welfare is a basic human right, Obamacare is just started.

Yes, there are very poor people living in the EU, but don't pretend that all Americans have a good life, that's just silly.

You are comparing apples to oranges. There are poor people everywhere. My point is America does not have as poor regions as European Union (Romania, Bulgaria etc). Your social system works only in your country and not in the whole Europe. It is clearly incomparable.

Not to mention the Miró thing: even Christie's is more careful than the government.

True, the Portuguese people if given a chance by their leadership can make great improvements. This is a very different situation than Greece where the people purposely cheat and don't pay taxes to the demise of their country.

Again, I can see where Tim comes from with the analogy, though it was probably best to keep it to himself.

Macedonia was always Greek, but apparently you know nothing about history. Everything else is just plane shameless...I won't even discuss Macedonia with anybody!
Read History!
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Macedonia_(ancient_kingdom)

The former republic of Macedonia is nothing else but Skopje..It was a part of the ancient Greek Macedonia and that's it..

Sorry, friend. They teach a very different, and far more accurate, history in the rest of Europe.

I see the Greeks use wikipedia for their education. Thank goodness the internet is free or Greece would not have any source of education.

Tim Cook made a silly statement, we all know what he means. He is educated and meant no insult.
:apple:

Agreed. Though i see UK (esp. London) as a big mess in terms of globalization.
