I don't think Satya Nadella will be leaving Microsoft.

Probably not for a long time. Satya is a great fit for MS and has been doing a good job. I respect what he's tried to do for some time so his background as an engineer and not like Tim's was a boon as a "hands on" type of guy.

The dude is sharp and I think he understands what MS needs to do to stay afloat and relevant. They're not perfect but MS is an old school classic company with a long history.

At just one point during the interview, I thought that Cook could have made additional reference to customers.

That aside: for me, it was close to a perfect interview. From the very few times that I have heard (recorded) him speak, or read his words, I get the impression that he's a person of integrity.

I learnt something new: the name of an openly gay person on TV. Ten minutes later, writing this post, the name was forgotten o_O and then the memory came back to me, but only because last night I watched Matrix Revolutions so Mr Anderson Mr Anderson Mr Anderson Mr Anderson Mr Anderson is still going round and round revolving in my head.

When Steve Jobs was in command he use do it all himself and sell you the product not like cook does pass the book all the time and just stand their doing nothing Steve made you want to buy the product because steve was good at selling the product and he made you think that is good i want that not like Tim oh another iPhone hardly any improvements at all
they are truly lost with out steve back bone and skills

Agree. Steve for damn sure would not dedicate nearly an entire keynote (!!!!!!!!!!) to Watch bands (!!!!!) when the entire mac lineup is languishing, sales are down and customers (even Microsoft) asking where the new Macs are.

Actually, I would consider Bob Mansfield

I don't think that's possible, he's probably comfortable in his chip and apple car roles.

I see Apple looking at engineers as an "overhead cost" instead of seeing them as an essential asset within the creative process. Anglea may have been the one to cause the over emphasis of aesthetics over technology, Tim went with her and the rest of the exec crew as been pushed aside.

Cook isn't a visionary, he's a logistics guy. Bringing in a bunch of other execs is just run the company by committee. This isn't the Steve Jobs Apple. Steve would tell you that your idea was **** or your implementation sucked. This singular focus in the company is gone and can never be recreated. Cook did well to get Apple this far but even visionaries can only see a few years down the line. Cook is on a dirt road without a map and Apple is suffering for it. I don't have any answers for what Apple should do next, but neither does Cook and his execs.

Only answer would be to clean the rats out like Steve did when he returned to the company. They have to flush out the bad apples and tighten up the ship.

Great analysis! I feel that Apple does not create momentum anymore and other players are becoming more independent and do not rely as much on what Apple is doing next. Google is the perfect exemple.

Well you have to give him credit because he did mention the word Mac once in the article. It's just time to realize that Apple doesn't really care about the Mac that much anymore because they see the traditional PC market in decline. That doesn't mean you or I feel that way, but Apple just isn't that interested in this market (especially pro stuff) anymore. Return on investment is much lower then the consumer mobile products.

Agree, especially with the Mac Pro.

Upgradability: I have a 2010 and 2012 cMac Pro updated with genuine Apple hardware that runs better than my nMac Pro 6,1. Updated the Broadcom WiFi ac + BTLE 4.x card Apple has used since 2012-13, 4x USB 3.0 PCIe, LG Blu-Ray Light-scribe, PCIe SATA III adapter w/ 246GB OWC Mercury EXTREME Pro 6G SATA III, 4x SATA II WD's = 16TB's, 4 x USB 2.0 w/ internal USB for new Broadcom card and more - everything but Thunderbolt. Both run circles around/on par with my nMac Pro6,1 8-Core Dual D700's and 32GB's RAM.

Desktops: It's inexcusable that a near 3 year old "pro" system costs $6k+. Cook mentioned Jobs wanted to kill the Mac Pro but he and Schiller (?) convinced him otherwise. Aside from having to purchase a $1500 Thunderbolt 2 array for my 4 internal HDD's, I actually grew to like the form as it sits well on my desk with 3 27" LED IPS displays yet I really miss the upgradability of older Mac Pro's. Thinner desktops at the cost of updating internals (Mac Mini, iMac), that's on the designers/engineers. Jobs was wrong on the "Post PC era", pushing iPad "Pro's" as replacements. Unless ARM processors surpass the power necessary for film editing, professional photography, CAD, even programming/coding for iOS apps, Intel is here to stay which I prefer as Mac's are truly a multi-platform system.

Intel - Intel is largely to blame as they've been behind for years. Skylake was behind 2 years? I don't even know what's next. I read/hear more about notebook and iMac processors, nothing on Xeon systems. Hopefully they're recent move from a "Tick-Tock" model will allow Apple to frequently update their systems. I know the MacBook line has been redesigned for well over a year yet at the mercy of Intel. I believe the Air will be retired by a new MacBook and the MacBook Pro 13"/15" will be retina with design/hardware overhaul, with focus on GPU/CPU speed and efficiency appropriate for a "Pro" system (ie what we expect).

I think this is spot-on. Angela has made changes and not for the better. Hiring her was a mistake but firing her would be admitting it. She may be far more responsible for turning Apple into a fashion company than anyone else. I will never understand why selling watch bands is better than selling top notch Mac's. Real computers are what put Apple on the map.

Very well put. Angela also is responsible for botching the Apple Watch preorder. She did Fairly with Burberry. She is also responsible for the Apple Retail stores and their design/set up.

I don't think so. Bill Gates did not have a vision for his company nor a plan when he was in charge then he left the Microsoft boat to someone even worst than him.

Bill Gates is the guy who built microsoft from his garage as did Jobs with Apple...both are selfmade man you can't replace that. Gates indeed had a vision and it was a clear one under him MS flourished to become THE os. Nadella is a visionary which is good but he lacks something very important, ressource allocation. MS under him fired their Q&A team and they thought letting the product emerge by customers would work...just look at in theory brilliant ideas gone wrong because of this ...Surfacebook comes to mind. This is a laptop that should be able to rival the MBP, XPS but sadly hard/software just don't match now.

Schiller to me - in fact both Phils ...also Phil Spencer from Microsoft - are hot air guys. They get on stage talk a big show but when push comes to shove, they'll never accept any form of rational criticism or even worse other ideas. I think the best guy for the post Jobs job would have been Federighi, he knows his stuff and he knows it very very well one of the few guys who doesn't use superlatives in every second sentence.

here we go ... 3 roots of apple ...... what they will do with iphone 7 to take over note 7 ...... that a big question for sept event ,,,,,,,,,

Yes of course, it has the potential. The potential however doesn't need 4 years to build up, specially when you claim to be the world's #1 technology company and offer the "most advanced operating system(s)" to your customers.

Apple is not a traditionally innovative company. They are the classic "close follower" type. They watch. They Learn what technologies have the potential to change the way people live and work, then they expand great amount of resources and talent to corner that market.

iPad, Apple Watch, iPad Pro are all good examples.

They do, of course, innovate within those emerging markets but they seldom establish a category. That's the way I see it, of course. It's just my opinion.

Cook argued that the company wasn't falling behind AI efforts by other companies and called the breadth of Siri "unbelievable

When Siri works, it feels almost magical, but about half of the time, Siri drives me nutty.

Example from last week while driving:

Me: Hey Siri, find an urogist near me.

Siri: Okay, I found one near you, should I call it?
The one she looked up was over 400 miles away.

Me: Hey Siri, look up Doctor Hoofnagle in Bel Air, Maryland.

Siri: Okay, I found Dr Nagle, should I call it?

I tried a bunch more combos of urogist, Hoofnagle, and others with no luck.
This went on for about 15 minutes until I got home and just did a search myself on safari.

I know this is just one example, but stuff like this happens all the time.

Using Siri to send a text, I end up telling my ex-wife not to let my girls putside of her house because there is a big pimple loose running around. It was suppose to be pit bull.

Steve Jobs was absolute Genius when it came to make things good and making them last

Tim Cook is a wannabe Steve Jobs the only thing that Tim cook knows about is how many apps the user has downloaded and say "Good morning" when he comes out on stage and all he is interested about then is passing over to either eddie cue,Phil Schiller, Craig Federighi and then saying who we have playing at the end of the event

When Steve Jobs was in command he use do it all himself and sell you the product not like cook does pass the book all the time and just stand their doing nothing Steve made you want to buy the product because steve was good at selling the product and he made you think that is good i want that not like Tim oh another iPhone hardly any improvements at all

What I realized is that Steve and Tim worked well because they are the "brain."
Steve would be the RIGHT side of the brain where as Tim is more of realist...and would consider the LEFT brain.
If one side of the brain is lacking/gone...then basically the company wouldn't be running 100 percent. The company itself may profit...but visionary wise...gone. Apple needs both.

Spot on! Jobs wasn't a programmer or an engineer, he had great idea's and didn't push innovation for profits sake. Jobs believed if you made a solid product the success will follow. Cook balanced that side out with great CFO/business management.

Side note:
The iPad was developed before the iPhone (~2004) as Jobs' true passion project. Aside from iPod's, PowerPC Mac's weren’t enough to entice a larger market. Jobs knew a cross platform device would solidify a primed market with the same interface and the mobile market needed a shakeup. In 2005, Apple tested the mobile market with the failed Motorola ROKR. Jobs learned that a successful device would require Apple's own mobile OS and control, something carrier's had never allowed. Verizon refused which is why AT&T had exclusivity in 2007, then Verizon acquiesced followed by everyone else. Phone OS became iOS and with millions using iPhones and more moving to Mac's and OS X, the market was primed for the iPad in 2010. Jobs retired behind the scenes ~09, remaining to launch the iPad that really began it all, becoming his last Keynote. :(

I really hate the Apple store changes. I was there yesterday and the layout and variety of accessories is horrible. I used to enjoy going, now it's a form of torture.

I don't know who's idea it was to change the Genius Bar to Genius Grove but it's stupid. Companies spend years building branding reputations. I see no advantage to screwing with that when it was working just fine.

"You build up — my skin got materially thicker after August 2011. And I don’t mean in a bad way"

Good that Tim has a sense of humor..

However if he reckons its tough to control.... then why don't we see more rumors about the Apple car ? That itself, seems to be pretty "secretive" so Tim has that done solid.

Perhaps its only the "important" things...

Apple should be ashamed Siri cannot perform a simple task like bringing back the Olympic medal table.

Stop talking BS Tim and start using your own products !

Siri not being able to handle very simple requests in regards to the olympics and Apple launching stupid Olympic watch bands summarises the current situation at Apple. I knew Siri was behind, but this is actually pathetic.
