A very religious reply to a very real and provable problem.

Remind me again, who in the climate debate is on the moralizing 'repent all ye sinners' side? And whose 'priests' are selling tithes to absolve all these 'sinners'? Whose calling for 'non-believer' witch hunts in order to save us from this 'evil'? Why does man made climate change belief function exactly like 'original sin' theology in Catholicism?

Should be pretty obvious where the superstition lies. Hint: it's never with the skeptics demanding hard scientific proof.

In order for scientific proof to actually happen, there needs to be a testable hypothesis that can be repeated for the same results. This has never happened on the 'repent all ye climate sinners' side. Lots of speculation over data, and very colorful ways to present some data, along with dire 'predications' of the future. But none of that is cold, hard science, it's merely speculation by scientists, and speculation is how people manage ignorance when they can't/don't have the information or means to make a testable hypothesis thru experiment and reach a repeatable result.

I'd take a deep breath and try not to worry about burning fossil fuels. But what you should worry about are the measurements showing an alarming increased rate of decrease in rotational speed of the Earth's molten core. Slowing core is 'planet death', and there's an overwhelming scientific consensus to support this, so... Repent! And I guarantee that American automobiles, TV, iPhones and Rock n Roll, are all somehow to blame/tax for this too.

Rule number one when setting out to solve a problem -- define the end goal. That's the problem I have with the global warming issue. It's rare that anyone championing the cause defines the end goal of their efforts with anything other than vague generalities.

"We need to stop making the planet warmer." Ok, so does that mean we simply need to sustain the current temperature? Oh, we need to make the planet cooler? By how much? Oh, no one can really agree on that?

The vast majority of environmentalists are simply people who ascribe to the notion that the planet needs to be saved; and they like to give themselves a pat on the back every once in a while for doing their part (including contributing a boatload of cash, in many instances) to save it. They also like to get on their high horse and talk down to people who they think don't take the issue as seriously as they should.

If Tim and Al want to donate their money to a cause that doesn't have a definitive goal that is widely agreed upon, that's their prerogative.

Um no. Chump is just going to outsource everything to CORPORATE AMERICA.

Bahahahaha and some you *think* that's gonna turn out just great for us consumers.

You'll see.

Btw - how's customer service working for you all now? That's meant for those you convinced -- convinced that think less government and more privatization means a freer more accountable society.

Right. Pun intended.

Personally I'd take a semi corrupted government system versus a totally corrupted privatized system that has full autonomy over us any day.

Why do you hate freedom? Government steals and threatens people into cooperating. Companies only exist if they have voluntarily paying customers.

Global warming is caused by mankind. Anyone who understands a bit of science can learn about it. Some comments here sound either like they are coming from monkeys paid by the oil industry or come from complete ignorance.

Tim political trolling again. While making his products less and less repairable each year resulting in greater waste. Every single pre Tim mac I own has been repaired or upgraded, this Tim is how you contribute to being green. Not by glueing you products and creating waste. Anything....anything goes wrong in the new MacBooks, it's a complete logic board replacement .

Still to see apple contribute any $$$$ to all these causes TC is so passionate about, words are cheap

It's even more ludicrous because Al Gore is on Apple's Board. He's OK with it too. I guess that is an inconvenient fact they don't want to deal with because it would affect the bottom line and thinness.

And it's not just about repairability. Take the just obsoleted ATV2. It's perfectly usable for a lot of people still but just because it's 5 years old Apple won't update it anymore (not for features, but just usability tweaks). That's the definition of being wasteful.

If it is caused by mankind then how did North America's glaciers recede before man ever set foot on the Earth?

What, that giant orange nuclear hell furnace, that we barely understand, 1 million times the volume of our planet, that causes catastrophic temperature shifts (in climatoid terms) every 8-12 hours?

Nah... that has no bearing on anything, but you were guilty before you born because of the great sin of consumption, committed since your ancestors. Repent!

The real inconvenient truth is that we are most likely too late to stop global climate change.
It's only been changing for billions of years, long before we were here :rolleyes::rolleyes:

You think global climate change is man-made only?
Has there never been global climate change before?

Of course, man should minimise pollution and waste, but let's not panic about it.

Man has done quite a lot to help natural climate change along. Natural climate change happens over thousands of years. With our help, the process has sped up. At this point panic and minimizing pollution now is futile.

The true title is A Convenient Farce: How Al Gore Makes Billions off the backs of junk science.
It is amazing that there is so many people, especially younger people that are still convinced that any global warming is due to a human influence.

I thought that after the Wiki-leaks of emails showing that there is a deliberate manipulation of climate data to fit an agenda of proving man-made global warming.

BTW, I am not saying there isn't climate change, or even it isn't influenced by humans, but I am saying it is not a proven science that global warming is because of man. The evidence of any man-made global warming is tainted, so how can anyone believe the people that use it?

Also, anyone else remember when Earth Day was to educate people on the dangers of man-made global cooling?

Here we go, all the "geniuses" who think global warming is a lie. Of course you know more than some of the smartest scientists on the planet with your basic education.

Increased atmospheric carbon dioxide has helped raise global food production and reduce poverty.
https://www.wsj.com/articles/the-phony-war-against-co2-1477955418

"To be part of the “consensus” one need only agree that carbon dioxide is a greenhouse gas and that human activities have warmed the planet “to some unspecified extent” — both of which are uncontroversial points.

“Almost everybody involved in the climate debate, including the majority of sceptics, accepts these propositions, so little can be learned from the Cook et al. paper,” writes Montford. “The extent to which the warming in the last two decades of the twentieth century was man-made and the likely extent of any future warming remain highly contentious scientific issues.”

http://www.thegwpf.org/content/uploads/2013/09/Montford-Consensus.pdf

"It was the narrative from the beginning. In 1998, [NASA’s James] Hansen made some vague remarks. Newsweek ran a cover that says all scientists agree. Now they never really tell you what they agree on. It is propaganda.”

“So all scientists agree it’s probably warmer now than it was at the end of the Little Ice Age. Almost all Scientists agree that if you add CO2 you will have some warming. Maybe very little warming. But it is propaganda to translate that into it is dangerous and we must reduce CO2 etc.

If you can make an ambiguous remark and you have people who will amplify it ‘they said it not me’ and he response of the political system is to increase your funding, what’s not to like?

If I look through my department, at least half of them keep mum. Just keep on doing your work, trying to figure out how it works.

MIT ‘has just announced that they see this bringing in $300 million bucks. It will support all sorts of things.’"

– Dr. Richard Lindzen, atmospheric physicist, MIT professor emeritus, and lead author of the “Physical Climate Processes and Feedbacks” chapter of the 2001 IPCC report

"Eight years after the United Nations’ Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) warned of mass starvation from global warming caused by high levels of atmospheric carbon dioxide (CO2), emissions of the greenhouse gas are at record levels. But so is worldwide crop production.

However, according to a report also released in November by the U.N.’s Food and Agriculture Organization, “world cereal production in 2014 is forecast at a new record of 2,532 million tonnes… 7 million tonnes (0.3 percent) above last year’s peak.” That includes a record level of wheat production worldwide, according to the U.S. Department of Agriculture."

"Professor Judith Curry, of the Georgia Institute of Technology, and president of the Climate Forecast Applications Network, said yesterday: ‘I disagree with Gavin. The record warm years of 2015 and 2016 were primarily caused by the super El Nino.’

The slowdown in warming was, she added, real, and all the evidence suggested that since 1998, the rate of global warming has been much slower than predicted by computer models – about 1C per century."

There most certainly is climate change, except, it's been happening for billions of years and these...people....act like humans, who are like a speck of sand on an elephants ass in the sand of time, are to blame, it's quite interesting.

Was not aware of Al Gore on the apple board. Someone should do a documentary into planned obsolescence and quantify the hypocrisy of all this. I compared my 2009 MacBook Pro to 2016 MacBook Pro. My 2009 is way more green, failed HD and failed ram would have been 2x logicboard replacements under Tims MacBook Pro, adding costs and pollution of dropping of , picking up etc...

All this talk of climate change, which the fossil records show happens on a cyclical basis and planetary science demonstrates happens to lifeless planets, too...yet nobody, not Al Gore, not all the billionaire philanthropists, not Tim ever talks about doing something about the giant, and I mean GIANT masses of plastic garbage floating out in our oceans, killing our sea life. Nobody wants to claim that mess. Or if there are people working on it, their efforts aren't getting the same press that global warming is.

There's no way of manipulating economies in tackling it, so year by year it grows.

Everyone goes on and on about the oil companies but nobody wants to own the absolute mess we individuals make with our laziness, throwing non biodegradable plastic trash out onto the streets or not cleaning up after a wind storm blows our recycling out onto the street. In my prior neighborhood, I once had to clean up all of my neighbors plastic waste after a wind storm because they were just too busy and important to do it even if our expensive cul de sac looked like a dump.

And meanwhile idiots throw plastic trash out of their cars or along their jog paths. I know because I go out with my dog and gloves and I pick all of that crap up before it can end up in our storm drains. I've seen these health nuts on their jogs finish up their water and just dump the bottle on the side of the path. They care enough about their health to jog and probably look down their noses at me for merely plodding along slowly, but they don't care about the health of their environment.

Black, white, rich, poor, doesn't matter what demographic you choose, there are litter bugs in every one.

I see plastic bottles everywhere, even in front of the lawns of houses that cost almost a million dollars. People walk by it. Homeowners seem blind to it even though it's littering their property. It's like everyone feels they're too good or it's too much bother to bend over and pick up some trash. Yet these are likely to be the same people who make a big noise about climate change. I just don't get it.

Don't get me wrong, I am all for curbing emissions and pollution of ANY kind. But I do think some aspects of pollution are more heavily politicized while others are practically ignored.

Not as cheap as people who won't buy new gear.

Renewable energy, great.

Now how about cut back recycling programs by making machines serviceable and upgradable. Use less glue and more screws.

Planet before profits, Tim.

Your suggestion will do the opposite of what you think it will - producing more waste to recycle. FYI, glue doesn't sit in landfills.

The fact you think that admitting climate change is real is a political troll should tell you the damage climate change deniers have already done.
