Tim Cook on New iPhone 6s Battery Case: 'I Wouldn't Call it the Hump'

Apple vs 3rd Party. Honestly, which one do think looks better?

I almost forgot this, I'd put this in second place fugly of the last decade of Apple products:

And I know many of us have gotten used to this look, but really, take a good look at those white lines. It's like.. a bandaid on gold?

They are beautiful in their own way. lol

$99 for a phone case. Apple are becoming greedy. Oh, thanks for make minuscule changes to the iPad Mini 4 rendering my genuine Apple Smart Case useless and now have to buy another one, oh you've now split the case in two and charging twice for the same case. If only I was allowed to sear on here.

From a stylistic standpoint I agree that it's a poor design, but from a functional standpoint I think that Cook has a valid point.

That was Steve's genius. He combined design with functionality. The world is full of poor design with functional products. eg. Nissan Leaf.

If the iPhone 6 had the thickness of the previously popular iPhone 4/4S there would be no need for this "carry-on" backpack.

Tim's reasoning of "malleability" oddly reminds me of another soft "easy-to-put-on" device, except that that's more aesthetically pleasing ;)

Looking at recent Apple product design I too am wondering what the heck is going on? Nearly impossible to upgrade Macs with shorter lifespans - but look the aluminum can be recycled! Price points that so blatantly force you to spend more to avoid a under performing device (looking at you 16GB iPhone), and now fugly humps and charging ports on the bottom.

Apple has lost sight of the customer...

I actually agree. I've owned MANY battery cases, for many models of iPhone, and I'm excited to receive my Apple battery case. A soft case like the silicone apple case I've had on my iPhone 6 for over a year.

Most cases are rigid, tough plastic that typically snaps together in two or more pieces. Bright LED lights that you can't disable while it's charging, and on/off switches that I've never understood the point of. This case fixes all of these issues, and is only thick where it has to be. It's not thick at the top and bottom where the battery isn't. Yes it's weird looking, but actually looks like it will be comfortable to hold.

The only drawbacks are it's less mAh than most of these cases, and it's expensive. Considering the smart features, partially slim profile, antennas, and lightning port, I'd say those things are easily ignored.

People need to get off their high horse about "design" and "Steven Jobs wouldn't have allowed this". This is a mostly elegant way of providing additional power and doing a decent job of it.
There is nothing elegant about this design.

Why? iPhone 6 battery does not last less than 4/4S.
Usage patterns have changed and iOS feature bloat have made Apple rethink their poor battery life. There was no need for a protruding camera lens or anyone asking for the iPhone 4/4S/5/5S to be thinner. Maybe the iPhone 7 will be a tad thicker and equal to the battery life that this odd looking hump provides.

as always Tim just loves what Apple makes. Apple Maps is the only thing he come out and apologised for - and which resulted in people getting fired at Apple. I would say this battery pack and the magic mouse charging location deserves someone getting fired too - to make a point internally about stupid industrial design. Usually Apple products has a certain amount of oh's! and ah's! for great and user friendly subtle inventions. Lately apple has release a few products which doesnt have any of this.

people weren't asking for iphone 4 to be thinner? ok, that's fine. but apple's target market clearly want bigger screens, and somethings got to give when you stretch the case in height and width...

if apple released iphone 7 with the same screen and the thickness of iphone 4 they'd be laughed out all the way to bankruptcy.

What poor battery life? My 6+ gets over 12 hours of usage per charge. What are you doing to not get over at least a day with that? I often go through 3 days with it...

I like the one piece stretchy aspect of the install. And I don't mind the hump, but why the limited capacity?

Although Orson Bean would probably applaud this diminutive dowager's hump, I would have preferred Apple went full Quasimodo and had a proper hump that went near to the base of the case and afforded a greater battery life.

Could advertise this in a commercial with the theme "Dr. Strangebattery, or How I Stopped Worrying And Learned How To Love The Hump."
