So don't buy it? I fail to understand what so many here are trying to accomplish by stating they think it's ugly. It's not like Apple gives a **** on what MacRumors users write...

Sorry to burst your bubble but this is a discussion forum where you will find all manner of opinions. I've stated my opinion and thats not likely to change. Most of us are here because we love Apple products in general. This time they failed.

another horrible product is the ultimate remote control of the new apple tv! It 's impossible to tell which side to pick it up because it is identical on both sides. It has too many buttons and is too sensitive to the slightest touch and touch. It 's absurd that no one at Apple has noticed the problem, a remote control must always be taken blindly and operated without much thought. The old remote was a masterpiece compared to this, no doubt, for the materials, both for design and for its functionality beyond that for inventing the first real minimalist tv remote. #stevewasright

Simply stating something sucks is no discussion. That's what I don't get.

It doesn't have to. It's a bleeding external battery not high class design art...
Exactly, I don't know anyone, quite literally, who wants or wanted a thinner iPhone.

Even the 3G actually felt a lot better in the hand, no-one complained about the thickness.

I just feel that Apple have peaked I guess, it concerns me that we're starting to see a trend of sloppiness and disregard for what customers actually want.

Couldn't agree more here. I gave up on Apple phones this year after realising things aren't going to improve now. When I "upgraded" from Yosemite to El Capitan and my iMovie. TuxeraNTFS and WD MyCloud programs all crashed afterwards it made me realise there is another option out there (Windows 10) which actually has been innovating and improving whilst Apple rested on its past successes.

A Pencil. A Lightning Port. A Watch have been 'invented' since Jobs' demise they all strike of one thing .... stuff nobody wanted or needed. And still don't. So like Mr. Jimrod here, I too will be returning back to Windows after nine years with Macs. Why did I go down that to route originally? Innovation. Design. Streamlining. It just worked. Now they're just tinkering with and breaking all the stuff that did just work because .... It's easier.

This Quasimodocase now proves to me something which I've been suspecting for a while. They're rushing out products that aren't quite finished and still asking premium prices for them and then having the nerve to expect us to make allowances for their shortcomings because it's got the Apple logo on them.

It doesn't hold out much hope for Apple quality control if this garbage being given the green light is anything to go by.

Rant over. For now. ("Please. No more!" - M.R. Ed)

I never said it sucks but ok let me try to explain in a manner where you can understand. Apple spends a lot in research and development. They also put money into industrial design to make products that are asthetically pleasing. Then comes this rubber case with a huge hump on the back. Congrats, now you spent all that money on a new nicely designed phone and made it look cheap and ugly. Are you still with me? Apple could have saved a ton of money designing the phone and just made it ugly to start with. Not everyone is going to agree...and with that I've said my peace. Please enjoy your new case. If you think its pretty then my opinion should not matter to you.

I think Apple assumed (quite rightly) that most people would hold the remote lengthways to operate it. Sadly, they didn't take into account that someone would try to prove their design expertise (ha!) by holding it widthways to use as a TV controller.

Since the control is also a game controller then it has to balanced on both sides when held horizontally. If you need to find your bearings on a tiny sliver of plastic then I suggest you use the volume control; I suspect that's why it's a rocker and not two separate buttons: to help the pseudo design experts.

Do really so many need a external battery for their phone? I see this case as a solution for special tasks like mobile pos or long hiking trips - not for general usage.

No one thought to ask, "why not make the iPhone a bit thicker with extra battery in the first place & make the camera flush".

Would making thicker improve battery life, would it not need to be wider and/or taller to accommodate more cells. I'm not battery expert but batteries tend to be flat, is suspect it would have to be twice as think to fit another layer of cells on?

Very good post. That is my only issue with the ATV, when dark, it's a 50/50 chance of picking it up the right way. Picking it up the wrong way results in the movie skipping . Every other remote I own, as soon as I pick it up I know by touch if it's the right way, except this one.

why? I rather have the sapphire lens boost the iphone up so that the back of my iphone won't get scratched. i've seen my iPhone 4 and 5 get scratched because whenever I pick up my phone, some hard dust or sand scratches the back surface of the phone. i've had my 6 plus for over a year without a case and it hasn't scratched one bit.

For hiking and such I'm sure it will work just fine although its priced far too high for occasional use I think. Price point is another discussion entirely so no point in me going there. This is just one of Apples decisions that has me scratching my head.

If you live in an area with poor cellular signal you can experience short battery life.
I can experience that every year when I go on vacation and although I seldom use my iPhone (I like to take a break from technology while on vacation) I have to charge it every day.
If I worked in the same area I'd need to charge the phone at least twice a day, maybe three times.
And weather can affect battery life too. If you work outdoors in winter you can have poor battery life if it is really cold.

I guess the majority of users don't have poor signal and don't use the phone outdoors in the cold, but there is market for external batteries and for the kind of cases Apple just launched.

I almost forgot this, I'd put this in second place fugly of the last decade of Apple products:

maxresdefault.jpg

And I know many of us have gotten used to this look, but really, take a good look at those white lines. It's like.. a bandaid on gold?
I certainly got not used to it because I preferred to stick with the well designed iPhone 5 (black, btw: )

I'm loving the entire senseless drama. So much bile and entitlement here. i wish all of you these kinds of problems in your lives.

Looking at recent Apple product design I too am wondering what the heck is going on? Nearly impossible to upgrade Macs with shorter lifespans - but look the aluminum can be recycled! Price points that so blatantly force you to spend more to avoid a under performing device (looking at you 16GB iPhone), and now fugly humps and charging ports on the bottom.

Apple has lost sight of the customer...
They are selling more than they've ever sold... There are plenty of alternatives for you to choose from.Go and find a better product if they are all out there then you'll have no problem.

It's honestly baffling to me that this got released. Sure, a few people will like it - the universe of Apple consumers is big enough that a few people would like anything Apple released. But the response has been overwhelmingly negative, and for good reason.

I hate to be that "Apple is doomed" guy, but some of their recent designs (iPhone 6/6s, watch, nMP) have really left me scratching my head. This is the worst, by far, but it doesn't portend good things if the design team thinks this is a good look.
Agreed. Recent design choices are beginning to make Apple look like it has a serious case of the emperor's new clothes.

What's with everyone saying it's ugly?

I think it has quite a nice space age feel to it and it's uniquely different from other battery cases on the market.

Taste, get some nerds.
