Good explanations from Tim. People just love to **** on Apple. I've never seen a genuinely attractive battery case, and while this one doesn't look great, it also doesn't look terrible. The silicone looks nice and comfy and on the table it'll probably be on its back anyway. Moreover, as Tim points out this isn't necessarily an "on-all-the-time" type of case. Most people are probably satisfied with the battery life but this is a nice option for those rare instances you won't be able to charge for 24 hours+. Most people don't need a battery case AT ALL.

Go ahead and buy it, looking forward to the review.

It's feel like a dirty compromise suggested by "the guys". In the old days Apple pushed forward to really solve a design problem. Tim Cook seems to be hiding behind these "guys", while Steve Jobs had a real opinion about things like this and pushed his guys to greatness.

Too true.

This really is an abomination of an Apple product. Can you imagine if this was the first ever Apple design released? Would Apple have ever gained their reputation for beautiful design? No. They would never have got started; they would have gone bankrupt in short order.

Poor Steve Jobs. To have his company brought to this desperate state fills me with gloom.

feel like the hump top to bottom is actually quite cool, but the hump side to side is ugly and not needed. It should have been nicely curved all the way over the edges. That i find really ugly, most other cases have a hump top to bottom though. The mAh value is low but luckily i have the 6 plus that runs like a beast for two days for me. They really could have charged less for it and increased the battery capacity.

You do realize the hockey puck mouse came out on Steve Jobs watch. I seem to remember that product being ridiculed quite a bit. And that was something actually announced on stage not a silent update in stores.

Jobs came back in July 2007, probably a little late to fix all the products that were release in 2008.

I still prefer the puck mouse given it was 1998, to 2015 hump. It's not like Tim took over in 2014 and the company was in serious trouble ......

Well its not that bad. Third party add ons are possibility unlike other bulkier battery cases.

For example lenses like the olloclip or controllers like the mega ace can be easily modified by the manufacturer to work with the Apple battery case.

Apple CEO Tim Cook attended one of Apple's Hour of Code events in New York this afternoon, where he spoke to Mashable's Lance Ulanoff about the new iPhone 6s Smart Battery Case, which debuted yesterday.

Ulanoff asked Cook if he was excited about the "hump," a mocking nickname people have given to the battery case due to its distinctive shape. In response, Tim Cook said he was aware of the comments people were making about the case. "You know, I probably wouldn't call it 'the hump,'" Cook said.

Cook went on to point out the malleability of the new Smart Battery Case in comparison to other battery cases. It's made of a soft silicone that makes it easy to put on and remove, unlike more rigid cases from third-party companies.Cook also commented on the viewpoint that the case is an admission the iPhone 6s battery is too small, saying most people who charge their iPhones every day won't need the case. "But if you're out hiking and you go on overnight trips... it's kind of nice to have," he said.

Apple introduced its iPhone 6s Smart Battery Case yesterday morning, and its distinctive humped design quickly led to derision and negative comments from iPhone users. Reviews of the Smart Battery Case were also not overly positive as the case doesn't have enough capacity to fully recharge an iPhone and it's missing some features that are found in third-party battery cases.

Apple's Smart Battery Case for the iPhone 6s is priced at $99 and is available from the online Apple Store and Apple retail locations.

I actually agree. I've owned MANY battery cases, for many models of iPhone, and I'm excited to receive my Apple battery case. A soft case, like the silicone apple case I've had on my iPhone 6 for over a year.

Most cases are rigid, tough plastic that typically snaps together in two or more pieces. Bright LED lights that you can't disable while it's charging, and on/off switches that I've never understood the point of. This case fixes all of them, and is only thick where it has to be. It's not thick at the top and bottom, where the battery isn't. Yes it's weird looking, but actually looks like it will be comfortable to hold.

The only drawbacks are it's less mAh than most of these cases, and it's expensive. But considering the smart features, partially slim profile and lightning port, I'd say those things are easily ignored.

People need to get off their high horse about "design" and "Steven Jobs wouldn't have allowed this" This is a mostly elegant way of providing additional power, and doing a decent job of it.
You rational, logical, non hive-minded bastard... get out of here. You have NO PLACE on the internet.

BOO THIS MAN!!!!

I'd like to congratulate iPhone on its fantastic news, and whether it's a boy iPhone mini or a girl iPhone mini (or twins!) I think we should all agree we just want it to be a healthy, happy baby iPhone it's carrying.

That's the thing most reviews have actually been quite good. Like this one:

I think you meant 1997 not 2007. Anyway the idea that Steve Jobs came back to late to stop the hockey puck mouse is laughable. He and Jon Rubinstein got in a huge argument because he wanted a slot loading CD drive (because it looked nicer) and Ruby knew going the route would put Apple behind technology wise. Believe me if Steve hated the hockey puck mouse it never would have come out. And I don't know what the date has to do with anything. It was a bad design period.

Not being critical...but a hump is a hump...period. Also don't think many headphones other than apple's own will work with that deep headphone passthrough, and they don't include an extension for other headphones.

Here is Tim Cook's rationale on this iHump from notre dame battery case:

* 1700+ mAh battery: $0.67/100k units
* black or white silicone rubber condom case: $.10/100k units

* sell at apple retail stores: $99

* sit in $2k arm chair at apple HQ office, put all ten fingers together like Mr. Burns from the Simpsons, smirk in eddie cue fashion, and then drive his lambo with cases of cash to the bank. that's swiss bank btw so he doesn't need to report taxes.

Steve Jobs died on the 5th of October 2011, by the 6th, Apple's decline began...
Huge useless ipad "pro", apple watch gold, this case....apple pencil and mouse charging methods, the underpowered macbook ..Apple is falling, let me not mention how apple loves cutting corners and it's becoming greedy, oops too late. I miss you, Steve Jobs, I truly do.

The fact they didn't make one for the 6/6S Plus is weird. I concur with Tim that such a case would be great for camping, especially if it gave the Plus 3-4 days of juice.

Meanwhile, the thick antenna lines are a thing of beauty….

Meanwhile, if you could explain how a full metal bodied phone could have reception without the "antenna lines", it would be wonderful.

What Tim really wanted to say:

Two issues Tim.

1. You approved this fugly case, why? Is profit that important ? Brand reputation before $
2. When buying a case with an extended battery, the ability to take remove the iPhone is very long way down the list. Shockingly, once you the the phone in, for most people it will remain in that state, probably until they decide to sell it and want to clean it.

You have launched a product people are laughing at, including the faithful, time to play CEO and not the really nice bloke! This reminds me of apple before Jobs came back, some silly products that should never have made it past the conception stage.

Not true at all for many people. 90% of the time i have no battery issues, but when i travel or spend time in NYC then i do and would use this case. So for me, i would take the phone in and out of the case.
