What a joke. It's probably just a cover. The pages are blank. For the first time after Cook took the lead, I have actually been dissatisfied with Apple. Such a shame.

Yeah, took Apple to the next level... down.

I would bet someone was paid big cash to write the book to bolster confidence in Cook. Probably a little late, as the track record is undeniably for the worse.

Lol the douche probably wrote the title himself. Hard pass. I haven't purchased an Apple product since 2015. Every year, I look at the new devices they announce and none of them meet my needs. My iPhone 6S Plus is on its last legs now, I'll have to get a new phone this fall. I'll give Apple another chance to unveil a phone I actually want, but will probably have to pick up either a refurbished 6S Plus or else switch to an Android. Sold my Mac a couple of years ago and switched back to PC after using macOS for over a decade. Apple is seriously out of touch and Tim Cook's leadership is horrendous. But hey Tim, have fun with all the Hollywood starlets on Apple TV+, I can tell you're having a good time. You don't need my money anyways.

To all those lamenting that Tim Cook isn't a "visionary" like Steve Jobs, can you please point to another tech company that currently has a visionary leader on that level?

The man was a once in a lifetime type of CEO. It would be nearly impossible for anyone to fill his shoes.

Nope people aren't lamenting. They are simply reacting to the title of this thread: 'The Genius Who Took Apple to the Next Level'. Seems a bit over the top and glorifying/idolizing doesn't it?

Got to laugh at all the experts in this thread who without ever having met Tim, worked with him at Apple, know anything her personally, know what he. made a decision on his own about etc etc etc think they know far more than the board of directors at Apple who consistently unanimously vote him into power each and every year.

The man had taken Apple to be the worlds richest company and rightly deserves to be praised for that.

I miss Steve too, I miss his stage presence etc but he chose Tim Personally and Apple has been far more successful under Tim than under Steve.

I’ve been a long term Apple fan since my first Mac purchase in the late 80’s and love the company but man, people in this forum sure are dumb.

Laughable. Tim Cook has proven he cares little for innovation. If he did, we wouldn’t have a camera bump. Oh we have a great camera, blah, blah, blah. No, Apple. No camera bump. Figure it out.

APFS. Swift. 3D Touch. Force Touch. A/W/T/S/H chips. ProMotion. Terraced batteries. Speaktenna. TrueTone. Face ID. Touch ID. Butterfly keyboard. Metal. Taptic Engine. Touch Bar. Music Memos. Clips. Shortcuts. Final Cut. Pages. Liquid Retina. Apple Pencil. HomePod. These are all gimmicks.

Look at Samsung. There’s innovation.

iPhone needs split view so I can watch Twitch and YouTube at the same time.

I need a weather widget on the Lock screen AND Home screen. I need to see the latest weather conditions every time I use my phone.

iPhone needs a torrent client. No way I’m paying for any type of media.

If you want task-based productivity then the iPhone is for you. Otherwise no. Just no.

Install Apple iPhone Leather case = no camera bump. There. It’s figured it out . Oh, and you should pay for media - just like any other product - instead of expecting creators to make it for you for free.

If you think the reason that most people are dissatisfied with Tim are "dumb" because of stage presence, then I don't know what to tell you. It's shipping products. I get that there are only so many iPods or iPhone like leaps. It's the little things. So many improvements for the sake of thin that made things functionally worse. Anyway, I am hoping that most of this is actually Ive's influence and the man has less of it.

“Genius”

I think he means “Apple executive”.

Eh? I won't deny that Cook's taken Apple to a level it's never before, but only in the same sense as what John Sculley did.

Sculley got Apple to record profitability, but he basically abandoned substantive investments into the future for the sake of concentrating on what worked without much in terms of innovation. It obviously worked very well in the short term, but in the long term it would have doomed the company had Jobs not returned. Hell, they even share the fact that Jobs personally headhunted both of them.

Cook's repeated the profitable parts of the Sculley saga, but with Jobs being very solidly six feet under it's not very likely Jobs is going to come back and rescue Apple for a second time when it all goes to hell.

Oh, man! Cue the 'Michael Jackson Eating Popcorn' GIF because these comments are going to be GOOD!

With that said, I also think it would be foolish to deny that Tim Cook is obviously a master at extracting money from people. I always marvel at how willing people are to quickly spend hundreds or thousands of dollars for Apple products. Even if they get burned by a faulty iPhone or a Macbook keyboard failing, many will still turn right around and buy more Apple products. I saw a person last week on this very forum who bought two brand new sets of AirPods and didn't even know if they would work with his wireless charger. I mean to have that kind blind loyalty user base is amazing, and something many CEO's could never get for their company. Tim Cook has been a master at getting people to spend their money on Apple in spite of all of these problems.

At the end of the day, Apple's shortcomings right now are not going to be Cook's problem, it will be his successor's. In 10 years (probably sooner) Cook will be gone, cashed out and living on a beach somewhere. He doesn't have a long term vision for Apple, but again, that's not really his problem at this point. Just my two cents.

Tim Cook wasn't the one who built up the blindly loyal user base, though. That was all Steve's doing. Apple's hardware sales are falling because a sizable portion of that user base has realized the company that earned their blind loyalty no longer exists.

As you admit at the end, Apple's shortcomings won't be Cook's problem. Who will have caused them though? Cook. How will Cook have managed to coast by and ignored it all? He coasted on the legacy of Jobs. What's truly amazing is that Jobs managed such a legacy that 8 years have passed and a lot of people are still giving Apple free passes for their endless blunders.
