Please not another keynote address to introduce new Macs. It's going to be very costly for shareholders. Every time some event is held, Apple's share price tanks. I'm not sure why, but there's really no point in holding an event where people are only going to criticize the products as being outdated or being devoid of innovation.

October announcement seems likely, but I probably won't be in the market anytime soon. I just upgraded my 2011 Macbook Pro from its original platter drive to an SSD, and I fully expect another three or four years out of it. So I'm obviously okay with waiting. :D

iWorks! Yeah, that's pure computing excitement, front page news on the New York Times!

Apple should at least bring out new computers more frequently than the IRS depreciation schedule.
Hey, some of us get excited about improvements to iWorks...

Horizont is far out, so November or January :)

Apple has, what, 90,000 developers writing programs for everything from Mac Pros through MacBooks to iPhones, iPads, Apple Watches and iPod Touches. Overwhelmingly they write those apps on Macs using Xcode and Swift. There is no way in hell that Apple is going to abandon their developers, so they will _always_ develop better and faster Macs. Not only for the developers but for all the professionals, writers, artists, designers and everyone else who relies on Macintoshes for their livelihoods. Every Apple device is getting more powerful every year, their graphics and audio get more powerful and the developers need even more powerful devices to develop apps and all the visual and audio data that constitute advanced apps. There is no way Apple is ever going to reduce the power of its Macintosh computers, unless it creates something even more powerful.
I'm interested to see what they do with graphics cards in their next update to the iMac line, considering the rumors of AMD polaris providing the foundation. That's mostly what has caught my eye.

I'm just hoping for an updated iMac so I can replace my 2011 Mac mini. I mostly want the graphics to be improved. I'm fine waiting until the end of the year. After that, I'm not sure. MacOS is still better than Windows, at the moment.

Sorry, but that’s sort of a stupid question.

How is all iOS, TVOS, and MacOS software written? On a Mac.

And was there not an announcement about MacOS Sierra at WWDC this year? And a renaming of MacOS?
I don't think it's a stupid question. When Apple releases macs that suck when they came out(for the most part..not upgradeable, slow processors, 5400 rpm drives) and THEN they wait years to amend their foolish mistakes..
If they were trying to kill off the mac line I don't think they could have done a better job!
When you can buy a better and more upgradeable mac from 2012 why is anyone going to buy a new one?
They are reaping the rewards right now of those foolish mistakes.
Time will tell if they've learned from them.
Edit: I am an Apple lover, but for me the best deal is a 2012 mac mini

aww Tim, why the double spaces after the period? why Tim why!?
Single or double space after a period is sort of a religious issue, there are valid answers on both sides. Let that one be. Stick to flame wars about iOS vs. Android, Mac vs. Windows, Coke vs. Pepsi...

Of course, all of those pale in comparison to Vi vs. Emacs [Vi/Vim/MacVim FTW!]

Apple always boasts (lies) about their performance superiority over the competition, but if they really cared about performance, they'd go with the new Nvidia GPUs instead.

Hey, is there a brain tumor class action lawsuit in the future over forcing an entire populace into wireless headphones? I mean, what is the danger in having a receiver right at your ear for most of the day, right? Move along, nothing to see here.

And hey, when is that iChip brain implant coming out?

Enquiring minds and all....
The way Apple products are going, they're appealing only to those without a brain, so, no worries.

Maybe I'm in the minority here, but the problem I see is that there is little pressure for computers to push technology forward.

I bought the iMac with Retina when it came out two years ago. I face two problems: one, what can't it do?, or what does it struggle to do?, and two what is there to replace it?

The computers we have today all greatly outpace what we can do with them. Intel has recognized this and the new processors that they are producing are by and large not more powerful, but more efficient.

So, I'm not giving Apple a pass on not introducing new Macs or lowering the price, but what can't you really do with your Mac that an Apple update is going to enable?

And if upgrading enables you, then you probably were rocking some old outdated crap, in which case it's your fault for not upgrading at the last refresh.

People who have an Apple Watch are disappointed with the marginal update of the new Watch. But since I didn't get one, the new one looks kind of good to me.

So, I wonder, as much as I would like a new machine announced that makes me want to buy it, what would that be? What will it have that my two-year-old iMac doesn't have? TB3? TB2 & USB 3.0 seems fast enough for what I do. More accurate color? I don't do professional photography.

What is it that you think these new machines will do that current models won't do, except be made up of more recent hardware?

Judging from customers lining up in our stores (I mean,
have you seen them lately?) looking to buy two year
old technology (some almost three), seems like we're
drawing people in. Have to keep margins high, because
spaceships don't pay for themselves. But I will say,
I love the Mac and we are very committed to it. Stay
tuned.

So when October passes by with no updates what platform are people thinking of moving to? Not fussed about no longer being able to develop iOS apps as there are far too many developers and apps now, and the store search is still useless. Not too bothered about moving away from iCloud and Apple Music, plenty of alternatives nowadays.

That's... really dismissive, actually, and way to brief a statement to be helpful to anyone. The fact is that Polaris and Pascal are actually pretty competitive in some surprising ways considering their predecessors, and based on the processor you're talking about and the application it's for, have unique pros and cons. Anybody looking at them should do some research before choosing, because you know, blanket assumptions are usually useless.

But thanks for your input.

Just put an SSD in my 2011 MBP to replace the original platter drive, and I'll probably get another four or five years of happy use out of it. You hit the nail on the head with this post.

The Air is still not retina, so we'd like a portable laptop that isn't crippled with only one port which you cant even power and use an external display at the same time when at work. They shouldn't have even bothered with that Macbook and focused on updating the Air and taking some weight off the pros.
