No, what you brought up was: "There's obviously a huge disconnect between Tim Cook and his customers. He either needs new advisors that can read public forums, or maybe he should fire up Macrumors.com on his new iPad Pro and do some light reading."

My response was to your flawed assertion. Yes, the tablet market in general has been declining. With respect to the iPad it has to do with people not needing to upgrade every two years like many do with phones. I think most people are aware of that. Surely you know that, right?

Still, every single quarter Apple sells more iPads than Microsoft has sold the sum total of all Surfaces since introduced several years ago. Every quarter. Many companies would die to have the yearly revenue represented by the iPad.

"That is entirely based on the iPhone."

No, it's not.
I said Apple's success lately is the iPhone and not the iPad. IPad has been declining for some time now. Mostly due to phablets and hybrids.

People don't have a problem upgrading more often than every two years when there is sufficient innovation to do so. Apple hasn't provided that with the iPad. Unless thinner is innovation.

Maybe you're not paying attention. SUV sales are booming. Porsche and BMW sell more SUVs than cars now.

indeed, I do. GM heavily invested in big SUV/hummer since it is their cash cow prior 2008. that short sight strategy bankrupted them when the economy went down and gas price went up back a few years ago. without government bailout, they would not be here today. They learned their lesson. They sold Hummer brand, and invest more in smaller and gas-efficient cars.

This have everything to do with making more money by selling two products, and nothing to do with what people want.

Nobody knows what "people" want. One can only know what one wants. As to how many people they represent, one can only guess.
I don't want a 2-in-1. Heck no.

Keep smoking the Apple Crack.

If Cook has been doing so well with his advisors, then explain the cluster of a mess that is Apple Music. Who advised him to buy Beats?

Tim is not correct on his assessment. In fact, I just read somewhere very recently that he now uses an iPad pro and iPhone only. Who the hell in a corporate environment does that? There is no way in hell can he do his job with the iPad pro only. There are sensitive documents that he would have to work with that belong in a hard drive or external HD for security reasons.

Something tells me Cook doesn't like desktops. I don't think he's the sharp card shark he appears to be. Now Satya, that dude is sharp. Sharper than Ballmer the Screamer. Seriously.

And opening the wallet to help Apple be successful? The company has been here since the 1970s and managed to get by. In fact, it was Microsoft that saved Apple's a$$ when they almost went bankrupt, not because it's a corporate ethic thing to do, but I suspect it was between Bill Gates and Jobs because they shared a long history together.

EDIT: by the way it's possible he uses his desktop in his office rarely and carries those two devices. But if he says that iPad pro is going the be the replacement for Laptops/desktops and uses his iMac in office, then he's being hypocritical.

Do you own an iPad Pro? To suggest he cannot do his job with one suggests you have inside knowledge and that he's a liar, or you are shooting from the hip with ignorance. I'm guessing it's the latter.

What's that have to do with anything? That's long-ago history in the 1990s. And has no relevancy today. Apple's continued success today, with ever increasing sales, has nothing to do with that, but rather knowing what people want, and making outstanding products people are willing to open their wallet and pay a premium price. Simple as that.

Thank God that Apple is standing their ground on this. Normally I would say more options are fine--create a hybrid and add it to the lineup--but if they did that, there would be significantly less pressure on developers from users to create fully functioning touch applications, which is why the iPad pro was made: to create that platform for developers to do so.

Looks like they didn't learn their lesson.

Vendors have to deliver what customers want.

Some user concern as OSX on iPad Pro, it is not just ask to use OSX, they are asking OSX like flexible UI ~ unfortunately, we can not use a mouse on iPad Pro, but, with Pencil they can do. Even they support OSX on iPad Pro, can not use OSX apps due to the difference CPU micro-codes. It means, iOS is their only choice now. BUT, iOS itself considered to support ALL iOS device, and iPad Pro is really small part of iOS device, How can expect it will be supported well... It is why some people think It is just a dreaming idea about iPad can replace any PC..
It just a bigger screen version of iPad, and one more funny expensive accessory, there is no more ~

Certainly it would be more expensive than a normal MacBook, but then again, it's really two devices, for which the customer is paying a convenience to have them work together and separately.
Certainly, since it's a "full blown" MacBook and a "full blown" iPad in one, it would cost not less than $1.799 minimum. And it's really NOT two devices. Since they share a screen, you can only work with one OR the other, but not both together and both separately. The customer would be punished with the inconvenience of not having two devices, which could work together at the same time or separately in two different rooms. Having two screens is awesome, especially since you already paid for them.

I don't see how supporting the Pencil on more devices fragments anything? That's the opposite of fragmenting.

Also, it's really strange that you quote me saying I have a Surface, then tell me to go buy a Surface.

That's 3 sales... Though one is my last gen that I am reselling. Surrounded by my Apple products because I really do love Apple for mobile and TV. Returned the new AppleTV, but that had more to do with the fact that I just couldn't stand the new Netflix app.

As a filmmaker, designer, and photographer and ever since my first iPhone (the 3G) I've been waiting to jump over to OSX. But then little things keep happening to scare me away. The big one was Final Cut X. I'm very connected in the indie filmmaking world. Before FCX I did not know a single filmmaker who didn't edit on a Final Cut... Within months after that, there wasn't a single one that wasn't on Premiere. Back then, I was just too poor to buy a Mac Pro, but today it is a choice that works for me. Thankfully Adobe is cross platform.

There's millions and millions of Windows users like me, that also love Apple devices. You may think we're stupid, but not stupid enough to use a Windows Phone or their pathetic smart Band!

I'm a part of the problem though, I'm inflating those iOS numbers by buying all their casual (consumption) devices while I'm buying Windows for professional (creation) stuff.

I think you mistook my post. That's what I meant. By NOT having OS X on tablets does NOT cause fragmentation. If they did have a OS X iPad and a iOS iPad then things would begin to get messy. Throw in the pencil on two different OS's then all of sudden its 1995 again and we'll all be loading pencil drivers off the internet.

If you're in the niche category that needs a hybrid then you can buy a Surface. I don't think Apple really minds that you do. They've never been in the game of market share.

they do learn by selling their Hummer brand to Chinese. GM can't compete in sedan market against foreign companies. Hence SVU is where they can do better. again once the economy is bad, and gas price goes up, their SUV lineup will suffer. should apple follow GM and one day go bankrupt?

Porsche? are you kidding? how many of Porsche on the street?

did you answer to my main point question? does this big SUV have any gas-efficient or big-load advantage that car or truck has? that is what this OP is about.

He's right.
Now, can the whiners stop whining and get either a iPad or MacBook or both.
There will be a lot of corners filled with the little whiners sitting Indian style and crying, but, babies will be babies.
Perhaps your parents will hold you until you awake from your childlike behavior.
Or, of course, you can always go by a Surface and forget about these site so the grown ups can have adult conversations.
Thank you.

The arguments against hybrids are funny. Surface pro is no compromise. They nailed it. Hell, I will even say that Surface Pro 4 is a better standalone laptop than any of Apples. Office apps are simply better on Windows, you can have and maintain only the one device you are familiar with, only buy accessories/insurance for one device. Also I like the kickstand better than a normal laptops folding mechanism, as you can remove the keyboard and use less space. For example under transport. Also you can use a pen.

The kickstand is not a compromise for a laptop, but an advancement.

The new macbook and macbook air are so portable that they can easily double as an Ipad wifi. Only thing it is missing is Cellular connection, but with tethering they are much more powerful than an ipad. Just missing touch interface....

Someone please walk Tim out the door.

"Customers do not want bigger then 3 inch iPhone" - Tim Cook (2013)

I think you mean 4" iPhone. Well if he was referring to this customer, he was right. And I suspect we won't know for sure if he was right about the general market for another couple years after the novelty of bigger screens wears out for a lot of people.

BMW, Ford and others are seeing the same trends.

Supporting the Pencil on OSX is 1995 because it would require a driver? So it is more present day to just not support new technologies?

the Force Touch drivers seem to work incredibly well. Funny, I remember when that feature was first announced... For the Apple Watch.

And it's easier using two devices? Paying for two devices? Traveling with two devices?

Customers already sent a message to Apple about larger iPhones being better than a small iPhone and an iPad together.
But that was a relatively easy fix, and even that took time because Steve Jobs and Scott Forstall didn't think resolution independence was necessary for iOS.

My guess is that Apple has thought about it but concluded the effort wouldn't be worth the benefits. Remember, OS X is a niche operating system with small sales compared to Windows.

This is my major problem with Apple these days. There is no culture of wanting to think differently or change the way people use devices.
It was that way with the iPhone and I think that's where the problems began. They've been trying for ages to find ways to make iOS and OS X play together nicely - usually at the expense of OS X. In fact, always at the expense of OS X.
It is high time they re-invented the OS from the ground up.

Trouble is, Apple is now about playing it safe giving people just enough - as long as they upsell and always withholding tech or upgrades so people are almost forced to buy the next iteration.

It makes for unbelievably arrogant and boring launches and now VERY boring products.

Apple could create a converged product. Being Apple they could build one without any compromises because THAT's WHAT APPLE EXCELLED AT!

again, Apple is not like these old companies. so you like apple to follow the crowd, like everyone else?

and you ignore my question which is the main argument point.

Even Tesla is building a crossover!

I want Apple to lead. I'm sure Apple can do a better job than Microsoft building one.

Your question was how many Porsches are on the road? There are a lot.
I don't think this car analogy works but I'll roll with it. What is your take on the hotly anticipated Tesla Model X which has comparable range and power to the sedan?

forget about Porsche or Tesla. let's get back the the main point of the OP.

does SUV or crossover have gas efficiency like car? or can it carry big load like pick-up truck? Dmunjal can't answer this question. He kept using other companies as an example that he likes apple to follow. all he want is converged product but as Tim Cook mentioned, it would lost all advantages.

No Mac? iPad ... Pro? You can't even read and write files from USB Drives you got from a colleague at work.

Surface Pro 4
$899 tablet only, pen included
$1.029 w/ keyboard

iPad Pro
$799 tablet only
$1.067 w/ keyboard and pen

Wow, what a difference for buying Windows trash.
It has a full blown OS and hardware extensibility. Not a toy OS with icons spread so far apart. Many IPP users will have an additional laptop which costs more.
