They could do with an electronic giant to diversify their product range into existing distribution channels.

Guys you are missing the point. They are going to buy Philips.

well to be honest, when he said something similar like that last year, there came iPhone 5s with a revolutionary finger print sensor (not the first one, i know, but the one that works)

Mac Pro! When I saw this "trashcan" looking computer, I was amazed by the engineering behind it

and need I say more? iPad Air! Same screen size, but thinner, lighter, and still the same battery.

Yes, it's "evolution", but it's still "innovation" to a certain degree.

Well then...enlighten us genius "for real"
When did they exactly start working on the iWatch? You seem to know something the rest of us dont!

At least 1-2 years ago. It will be one of the 'new product categories' he is talking about. A new Apple TV which comes out of hobby status will likely be another.

Mmm that tasty corporate talk is so good. Please shovel us down more vague statements and positively charged obscurities. Please Tim! It's not like we need results, just tasty words with upbeat relish on the side.

I still think they need a spin-off company, not to get bigger. They are already "too big" to just barely manage yearly OS releases.

Medical devices are the antithesis of Apple. Long product cycles. Long support cycles. Tons of regulation. Slow moving feature sets. Those are "add-ons" for Apples products and will just slow them down. They need a spin-off with distance, even more than something like FileMaker has.

Corporate talk aside, why would he give hints or secrets about upcoming products he is so passionate about making? If I were in his position, I know I wouldn't want to divulge a single bit of information regarding upcoming products. In fact, I bet they are deeply maddened when product details or parts are leaked.

No clue what you are talking about. That is to say, you have no clue.

All those medical hires might not be for medical devices.

I have a theory on that iWatch thing.

Fingers and nerves. If one could make a watch that monitors and controls nerve pulses one could simply use their fingers as a controller for television. The finger movement sends signals to the watch and it in turn sends a command to the tv device.

Just move your finger to the right and the menu swipes to the right using the electronic pulses of the nervous system. Same with swiping left or selecting. A tap of two fingers selects an item.

The hand and fingers are the most natural input devices ever made.

Keep in mind Apple has also hired robotics experts.

That's why they got the fitness experts and sleep experts.

Source please? You know, non speculative/rumor based source?
Source is this article. Lol. Tim has said there will be new product categories in 2014, and there is a constant stream of iWatch rumors. I like to use common sense and intelligent reasoning to assume that one of those will in fact be the iWatch (or whatever it will be called).

Every year the same story.

Agreed, they need to starting delivering on this stuff rather than teasing us all the time with their supposed "great stuff" in the pipeline. Every quarter they say we have some great new products in the pipeline and every year all we see is updates to existing products. It's 4 years since the iPod was launched.

I'd say the big revelation here is his views on acquisitions. He has mentioned once in a D-conference that Apple is not fundamentally against big acquisitions but never has he been this clear that large acquisitions (>$1bn) is in their playbook and that they have actually looked at these types of acquisitions before.

We all know Apple has some big products in the pipeline. But if Apple were to acquire Twitter, Nintendo or anything near of that magnitude it would by most accounts be a bigger "deal" for the company than an iWatch or a new Apple TV.

ok

ok..., but not even a hint ?

I guess we already know an iWatch, which isn't out yet, and a Apple Television, that its stuck in a loop of rumors, having difficulties etc.. we can't tell anyone about the status...

What else........ in "Upcoming Products" may also see like how far in the future are we talking about here ?

Upcoming to what ? next 5 years, 10 years, or 20+ years ?

Ok, so Tim have said there will be new product cadegories in 2014, and that is the source that proves they have been working 1-2 years on iWatch? For what you know, that could mean absolutely anything and nothing!!

Point being is that no one outside Cupertino knows for a fact on what new product cadegory Apple is working and for how long they have been working. Speculations and rumors are entertaining but they can never be treated as a fact until official announcements.

Cofirmed:

iPhone 6
iPhone 5sc
iPad New
iPad 2
Retina iPad mini New
iPad mini
2014 iMac
2014 Macbook
Apple TV (the hockey puck)

"All the usual suspects" (A Steve moment). Oh, almost forgot,

iPhone 4 (pulled out of retirement)

Pretty much sums it up as a safe bet. If Apple has to pull devices up from the dead they pretty much lost their innovative soul.

One would believe that Apple will become more capable of expanding their range of devices, software and services when their new campus is done as its being capable of housing a much greater number of employees?

I know that you don't need to have everything done "in-house" but at the moment it might seem Apples success exploded in such great speeds that they have more or less expanded beyond their own facilities and are in the need for expansion in order to get more great minds in-house and expand their corporation further in other to be efficient in battling new areas. As thing stands today it seems like whenever they focus on new stuff it goes at the expanse of something else like when OS X Mavericks development was put on hold in order to push iOS 7.0 development etc..

Even though Apple has become huge the past years and got a **** loads of money their facilities are not remotely close to those of their competitors like Google, Microsoft, Samsung etc..

No that's means a 4 year old Apple product is still more desirable than the crisp out there!

Cook has said on prior occasions that new product categories are coming for Apple in 2014 and, with this interview, he is likely looking to encourage spooked investors that Apple is still focused on growth.

And this is the only way Apple knows to appease investors? Look for growth in new categories while eroding your hard-earned marketshare in existing categories because those same investors might get extra spooked if you lower profit margins to stay price-competitive?

If we can't do that, we're not going to force ourselves to hit a price point that makes us produce a product that we're not proud of because we lose who we are in that.

It's a little hard to keep defending this kind of statement when profit margins on Apple devices are without parallel in the industry.

Sure someone is working on a watch-like device at Apple. It might be an opportunity, or it might not be, but a few people working on it is a small investment. On the other hand, Samsung proved either that they can't make a decent product if they can't copy, or that making a watch-like device that is actually useful is really hard, or both.

So I would bet that Apple will not release an iWatch that is like the Samsung Gear, and they will not release an iWatch that is like the Samsung Gear but a bit better. Either would be a failure.

"What's going to happen, Tim?"

"Something wonderful!"
