Tim Cook is an amazing CEO.

The haters will keep crying, but they can't touch 1 trillion.

Maybe we "can't touch 1 trillion", but we most certainly don't have to worship it like it was the one and only reason to live for.

I remember being at the Santa Monica Apple Store when they did a live feed of the keynote that introduced the original iPod. When the product and price were announced, nearly everyone in the room thought it was the end of Apple (too expensive, blah, blah). I agree with your assessment. CEOs are CEO's for a reason and they are usually really smart.

Yes, and as Bill Gates supposedly once said, "a smart person lets even smarter people work for him."

From the original post:
"[...] want to thank you from the bottom of my heart for all the late hours...[...]"

If your staff has to work overtime, you do not have enough staff. But why should a trillion dollar company invest in staff...

Selling affordable products with current hardware would be even better.

Why isn't a company with 37% profit margin "affordable"?

I go to the supermarket and the apple (the fruit) they sell, they have more than 100% of profit margin there.

Reading the comments in this thread, I'm just so glad Apple is run by a guy like Tim Cook, and not some of the voices on MacRumors. Otherwise who knows how far Apple would've fallen.

Running such a huge company isn't an easy feat. To maintain such dominance is just one indication that Apple is putting out products that people like and depend on. They may not all satisfy the MacRumors crowd, but then again that's a different question altogether.

To be fair, CEOs like Nadella are fine. A big part of it is a business model that incentivizes the right metrics. Facebook’s and Twitter’s model is just too dependent on abusing data.

As for Elon, that’s harder to explain and maybe the tech industry needs a “how to do real life like an adult who isn’t rich” boot camp.

Nadella's alright. He stays out of the light so we don't hear too much from MS and Google except whenever some data scandal or hack happens.

I’ve always liked Tim

Seems like a real nice guy

And these days.... we need more nice people tbh

Definitely seems a better personality approachable than SJ, probably. May be some of these success to do with his internal democratization and ease of working.

No need to hate him for the success of Apple.

So much hate in these comments about Tim Cook. I’d like to respond to one of them, “what has he done since Steve....” The Airpods were one of the most iconically awesome devices EVER made. Getting rid of the AUX jack (pushing the industry forward), 4K movies at the same cost as HD (free upgrades), Apple Watch (speaks for itself), Profit, Privacy, Consistant Simplicity, Files app, the new App Store, iPhone X (Face ID). Not that Tim Cook did all these things, but they were done under his leadership. Perhaps the new MacBook keyboards aren’t great, and some reports of AppleTV remotes not working (I don’t know that that is a big issue), and iOS 11 was buggy, but I think they are still going great. I am eager to see what they will do next. Innovations not always about new features, sometimes it’s the small things we hardly notice. I remember the old Apple Ad, “this is our signature” which implies that Apple’s products are great because of the feeling they give you. That feeling is designed... by Apple :) cheers

Yeah being a $750B company that actually pays something like the amount of tax globally that it should would be more impressive.

When you’re meant to be paying an already pretty innocuous 20% on profits but you decide you’re going to pay millions to do some accounting contortion to get the rate down to 0.6% celebrating a $1T stock valuation starts to feel a little hollow.

I really can’t stand this man.

But, why? Your post doesn’t tell the reader _anything_ why you feel the way you do.

What don’t you like about Cook under his leadership or is it his personality or candor? I think your post is worthless without explanation. But I will offer you my opinion on Cook and explain why I do appreciate him, as I think he has Really helped define Apple since his reign since 2011 and the company is doing well overall, the stock is healthy, a great product line that has expanded with the Apple Watch, the iPad Pro has been mainly successful and now with the newest introduction of the AirPods and it HomePod. Not To mention his leadership on the environmental resources with Apple and being about Green energy. I think he has been stellar with Apple and I look forward to see what the future holds under his leadership.

Press time for the bean counter, kudos to you. Now update that aging Mac hardware, pathetic from a 1 Trillion dollar valuation company.
Agree

“Apple's innovation, putting our products and customers first”

What a load of absolute tripe! A five year old Mac Mini is typical is Tim Cook. Shareholders first and Mac Innivation last.

Come on Tim - man up will you.

Why send the memo? Hey, look what a great CEO I am, but please don’t dwell on the milestone, it’s the result of hard work, $1 trillion, please love me like you loved Steve, but really there’s no need to talk about this.

Awful, awful man.

Who would you like as the CEO of Apple? Someone like John Sculley perhaps? Like it or not, Tim has continued the success that Steve Jobs was known for creating within Apple. I'm not sure that just anyone could pull that off. And wasn't it Steve himself that chose Tim as his successor? If everyone on this forum really idolizes Steve as much as they claim to, maybe you should respect his last act as CEO, trusting Tim to take the helm.
Cook is coasting on what Jobs did. Also, Steve chose Scully. What does that tell you?

Tim Cook is the best CEO in tech.

Look at who the rest have. Thiel is a delusional vampire. Musk is always three seconds away from a Twitter meltdown. Zuck, Jack and other social media CEOs have been data abusing Kremlin assets or creepto scam shills.

It's as if there is a trend towards dystopian sociopaths in tech and only Apple have maintained sane leadership, probably because their success has been building for many years while the others above have tried to get rich fast at the expense of security and society.

But Tim conservatively grew this company which was already big. His achievement has been not letting Apple sunk in its own success. Zuckerberg on the other hand transformed his personal website into one of the most valuable companies on the planet, and he did so by taking very risky and unexpected moves at the right times. To me Zuckerberg has way more merit than cook.

When you think about it though, neither company would be as important as they're today if it weren't for each other's products. Smartphones and social networks share the same oxygen tank.

This 1 trillion was reached by culling products, not updating products that still sell at new prices, lack of care, attention and development to products, reduced quality control, increasing prices, while increasing attention and resources to iPhone, subscription services and advertising.
As a user, not a institutional or high volume shareholder, this trillion dollar marker is notable for opposite reasons.

Just want to say, Tim Cook is and has been doing an amazing job for years. You all attacking him Becuase of the Mac mini need to Chill, buy a 2012 Mac mini and upgrade it yourself.

That is literally the antithesis of Apple's existence. Apple's whole reason for being is to make products that delight people. Buying a 4 year old machine, designed without any thought to it's upgradeability, at the same price it was 4 years ago, then spending yet more money, plus your valuable spare time to upgrade it, is an entirely un-delightful experience for the vast majority of people.

The fruit maybe but nearly everything else isn't and is more like razor thin. For example, Tesco, the U.K's largest supermarket had a operating profit margin of 2.3% in 2017. Projected to be up to 2.9% in 2018. Apple can easily afford to have properly priced entry level machines in every segment.

There's an huge difference between buying packages from one company, and then re-selling them to people, and what Apple does.

And Apple has properly priced devices in practically every aspect. Just because Apple doesn't sell BULLCRAP that other companies do, doesn't mean they don't have.

Definitely different types of business to be sure. But a four year old Mac Mini isn't really acceptable IMO and they need to get the entry level Laptop price down below $1000 again too. They can and should tackle both of those issues and still not be selling bullcrap.

By all accounts Steve Jobs was a horrible person. Tim Cook is super liberal and charitable, so maybe too far in the other direction, but there’s no denying he is a better person and he is getting results for his company, which is his job. I’ve done my fair share of Apple/ Cook bashing, but let’s give credit where credit is due. I’m not a happy camper when it comes to the current state of the Mac, but there has been some impressive innovation under Cook. I mean here we all are, bitching about Apple’s computer offerings, but I don’t see anyone switching to Windows. 1 trillion dollars. Someone is satisfied.
