Great, now they will have even less incentives to update their Mac product line.

I think it's quite on the contrary. Within a year, the stock price will go up not in any small part by Apple's new Macs (entry-level MacBook, Mac Pro and hopefully a positive surprise for Mac Mini).

Yes it's not a measure of a product quality. Their software has been going downhill for quite some time now. Ios 11 being an excellent example. Then the consistent YoY iOS slowdown.

I need to ask, what exactly do you find to be the issue with iOS 11? It works perfectly on my iPhones (X, 8 and SE) and iPads. Maybe I am the exception to the norm, but I haven't had any issues.

none of our opinions really matter in the grand scheme of things... Whatever Tim and Apple do are obviously the OVERALL correct way of handling things even though we may not agree on their methods or outcomes. Otherwise, they wouldn’t be the most valuable company and be the envy of most other companies. Besides... TC has made a lot of people a lot of money including myself over the years - irrespective of some decisions that I THOUGHT was bad.
Thinking such as this is why Apple continues to make so much money. Apple is primarily a phone company for folks who don't use wired headphones. They make computers on the side for those who don't like ports and don't care about upgrades and repairs. In any case, the company has found its customer base and will continue making these sorts of products as long as there are buyers.

There's an huge difference between buying packages from one company, and then re-selling them to people, and what Apple does.

And Apple has properly priced devices in practically every aspect. Just because Apple doesn't sell BULLCRAP that other companies do, doesn't mean they don't have.
Apple charges what they can get away with and hardly properly priced from a consumer point of view.
You don't get to be a trillion dollar company without being totally ruthless.

Don't do him like that, lol.

I don't care for the 1 trillion dollar mark. What's become of Apple compared to what it was 6+ years ago is a joke.

We have a very different definition of "joke". Judging by the tone of your steady stream of posts (which are often quite entertaining, thank you), I don't think it's wise to define what "joke" is from an obviously bitter standpoint.

If Apple is not your cup of tea, there's choice on the market. Or do you secretly (openly?) love the ecosystem of Apple products? That is one of their greatest achievements in the last 6 years, and it has a lot more value than many people give it credit for.

All this means is Apple can borrow larger amounts in the future if it ever wanted to do so. Same as equity in your home when a bank looks at it if you need an equity line of credit. Dividends will increase (Tim's entire focus) as we sure as hell don't see innovative Macs any longer. Tim had better hope the supply chain of consumers with lot's of money to spend on high margins devices continues. If things go south, Apple will be in a world of hurt. This would be a good time to take a little profit if your big into AAPL. ;)

We will we significant updates to the Mac lineup this year, but that really doesn’t excuse the abandonment of the lineup and pricing of some Macs under Cook. If anything, being a trillion dollar company gives them more of an incentive since that label makes a lack of regular updates seem even more ridiculous and unacceptable.

The significant updates will be because Intel went from quad to hex core CPUs. The other "significant update" will be using the T2 chip to control access to the SSD.

I wonder how the T2 handles the Fusion drives in the iMac.

“Here's to the crazy ones. The misfits. The rebels. The troublemakers. The round pegs in the square holes. The ones who see things differently. They're not fond of rules. And they have no respect for the status quo. You can quote them, disagree with them, glorify or vilify them. About the only thing you can't do is ignore them. Because they change things. They push the human race forward. And while some may see them as the crazy ones, we see genius. Because the people who are crazy enough to think they can change the world, are the ones who do.” SJ

Thanks for posting this Steve Jobs quote!

As a cool side story, the first trillion dollar company is from hundreds of years ago (albeit non U.S. based)

The Dutch East India Company would be the first trillion dollar company, by a long shot. In today’s value it was worth $7.4 Trillion at its peak.

https://www.sovereignman.com/trends...n-would-be-worth-over-7-trillion-today-15654/

If someone’s thinking “but they failed”, I’d wager Apple won’t be around in a couple hundred years either.

Side note: this website Sovereign Man is absolutely brilliant for financial education and insight, a topic severely lacking today (probably on purpose)

Ah...the VOC.

Well, let us consider ourselves grateful that corporations no longer have the power to raise standing armies...

Although it's clear that he's trying to spin the right message to his employees and customers, what else would you expect him to say? Apple makes their fair share of mistakes (just like any company), but you can't deny how dominant they have become in the tech industry. Confidence among investors shows that they expect this trend to continue. Nice work by Tim and Apple in their accomplishments, but it certainly doesn't change anything for them.

It’s OK. You don’t need to like cuddle him every night or anything

Not that there's anything wrong with that!

Mac Mini: no it isn't, then what? Nobody buys those type of products anymore, everybody buys laptops, much less people that buy desktops and then upgrade them.

Laptop under $1000: there are lots of third party resellers selling the MB for less than $1000.

Demonstrably people still do buy small desktop machines like the mini though, obviously laptops are more popular. I never mentioned wanting an upgradable machine. If 3rd parties can sell an identical MB for less than $1000, then Apple are ripping off customers shopping in their own stores.

That’s not the only thing I’m referring to, as you said, the CPU performance is solely down to Intel. The T2 chip isn’t really very significant in the context of the updates. Also, they’re going to 8 core if we’re talking about desktop chips.

The question isn’t really Apples dedication to the Mac right now, it’s about their actions in the future and whether they can keep up regular refreshes as a now trillion dollar company.

Tim Cook has done a damn good job by most metrics. There were so many software bugs - even catastrophic ones - and hardware missteps under Steve. I think the people who rail on Cook largely weren't around for those years or are remembering them too kindly. There are many legitimate gripes about Apple these days and there were during Jobs' prime years too.

And all of the people saying Apple should aim for market share and more affordable products, you have the wrong Steve - that is Ballmer talk.

It’s amazing how nostalgia can so easily distort memories. It’s a dangerous drug.

Don’t foget Bezos, who’s trying to put all your local shops out of business.

Most local shops are going out of business because consumers are couch potatoes and screen watching lazy duffers who want everything delivered to their door. But there is a waking up happening now. Amazon is opening up more physical stores and those are book shops too.

Small businesses should always have a presence on all ecommerce platforms.

Perhaps. I am missing the good ole days when people wanted to help others and not derive pleasure from dragging others down. Seriously, how people take this occasion to keep on whining.. I don't get it. Plenty of specific threads on particular devices for that... any way you want to slice it, this is quite the positive achievement. I would think the trophy for participating generation would not feel the need to take away from that. Perhaps if you don't have to work for achievements, you also don't have to appreciate them.

LOLLLLLLLLL. what a load of crap.

Theres been almost no innovation and the true customers are all pissed off. What is he even talking about?

INB4 "TouchBar" was innovative. the TouchBar is not innovation - it's a gimmick.

Next pls

HAUAHUUHAUHA True costumers? I'm very happy with every decision Apple is making.

You speak for yourself. And apparently the numbers also destroy you theory.

A very small number of sad people complain about every single thing Apple makes. The majority off costumers are happy.

93% costumer satisfaction. The highest in the industry.

A better measure of success would be to hit those stock numbers and yet, sell an affordable MacBook.

You mean like Dell and HP? Perhaps the two goals are incompatible and that’s why you don’t see Apple peddling cheap crap AND trying to project itself as a premium brand with overpriced models in the lineup like Dell and HP.

They hit the ceilings as far as serving lots & lots of customers with affordable quotient. There will be no more affordable Apple for the most except for those in US with career contracts.

Their focus is to ensure investors sentiments are addressed.

They try to squeeze more margins out of less customers, hence their sales growth has been reducing(along with market share) while prices are skyrocketing.

Burden of bankrolling profits will be left to fewer and fewer, loyal Apple customers.

They are growing in the double digits, what are you talking about?
