Who would you like as the CEO of Apple? Someone like John Sculley perhaps? Like it or not, Tim has continued the success that Steve Jobs was known for creating within Apple. I'm not sure that just anyone could pull that off. And wasn't it Steve himself that chose Tim as his successor? If everyone on this forum really idolizes Steve as much as they claim to, maybe you should respect his last act as CEO, trusting Tim to take the helm.

No businessbody is perfect.

We have a very different definition of "joke". Judging by the tone of your steady stream of posts (which are often quite entertaining, thank you), I don't think it's wise to define what "joke" is from an obviously bitter standpoint.

If Apple is not your cup of tea, there's choice on the market. Or do you secretly (openly?) love the ecosystem of Apple products? That is one of their greatest achievements in the last 6 years, and it has a lot more value than many people give it credit for.

I love OS X, despite a few low points. I absolutely hate the hardware because it's garbage. But I've been invested into Mac OS for too long to switch back to Windows... thus, Hackintosh; and it runs like a dream.

I’d still like everyone who says Apple’s stock is overvalued to explain why. And do they say the same about the FANG stocks and Microsoft who all have a higher PE than Apple?

Would be great if they used that to make sure they weren't selling any outdated tech. Apple devices should NEVER be sold with outdated specs, unless they are specifically old models at cheaper prices. The MacBook Air, Mac Mini, Mac Pro, iPad mini, iPod Touch, iPhone SE should all be spec bumped.

God I can’t stand this guy. He is constantly drinking his own koolaid. He doesn’t do a damn thing either, he is nothing but a questionable businessman.

The engineers and staff on the floor are the ones who put that stock where it is today, whether it’s agreed upon or not with the value it has.

I have no idea how you can read into it that he's "drinking his own koolaid". The only time he refers to himself, is to how he is humbled by what his team does, which is exactly what you yourself mentioned, "the engineers and staff on the floor are the ones who put that stock where it is today".

Tim Cook said:
It's you, our team, that makes Apple great and our success is due to your hard work, dedication and passion. I am deeply humbled by what you do, and it's the privilege of a lifetime to work alongside you. I want to thank you from the bottom of my heart for all the late hours and extra trips, all the times you refuse to settle for anything less than excellence in our work together.

Perhaps. I am missing the good ole days when people wanted to help others and not derive pleasure from dragging others down. Seriously, how people take this occasion to keep on whining.. I don't get it. Plenty of specific threads on particular devices for that... any way you want to slice it, this is quite the positive achievement. I would think the trophy for participating generation would not feel the need to take away from that. Perhaps if you don't have to work for achievements, you also don't have to appreciate them.

Well, back then, tech was for a much smaller segment of the population. It was like a tight knit community that came together around a common interest.

Tech is mainstream now which means all the good and bad of humanity is on display.

If by success you mean an unrelenting singular pursuit on the disposable gadget market, then I agree.

Ok, Tim. Put your money where your mouth is. You've been very succesful in getting Apple's valuation up. But if it's NOT the only thing, and you're NOT focusing on sending the stock value to the roof, start funneling the cash downwards. Start spending. pay your staff better. Pay your manufacturers to be better humanitarian. Pay out better dividends, increase quality, even if it means slightly smaller profit margins.

Like many others in this thread, and now I'm harping like a seal, if Maximization of the stock value isn't your #1 concern, why have many of us, especially in the Mac side of things noticed a significant decrease in quality, while prices go up, and margins also go up? that doesn't really feel like your words match your actions.

it's one thing to speak the words. It's another thing to act on them.

Page after page of hate and scorn heaped on Apple this morning, just what I expected from this place.

All this is down to the five year plan from Steve. If you execute Steve's vision then of course you'll make money. It's when you need to think and plan on your own that you're in trouble. Cook is entering such waters now.

He might mean well, but it just comes across fake. Its like he is trying to be the best goodie two shoes until 2021 when he can then cash out.

Scott Forstall can't come soon. Seriously, for all of Steves issues, I wish I could go back to 1999 and tell him to do regular check ups for cancer and make you do that surgery same day they find that tumor so you can be alive now running the company.

Tim's fakeness is really starting to annoy me more than anything.

none of our opinions really matter in the grand scheme of things... Whatever Tim and Apple do are obviously the OVERALL correct way of handling things even though we may not agree on their methods or outcomes. Otherwise, they wouldn’t be the most valuable company and be the envy of most other companies. Besides... TC has made a lot of people a lot of money including myself over the years - irrespective of some decisions that I THOUGHT was bad.
1T = Happier shareholders.
Good products (refreshed Mac mini + Mac Pro, under $1,000 Retina MacBook, better value-for-money MacBook Pros) = Happier customers.

So it obviously depends which group you fall into.

Maybe the title shoud have end like this;

'Not the Most Important Measure of Success' in Employee Memo”ji”

Thinking such as this is why Apple continues to make so much money. Apple is primarily a phone company for folks who don't use wired headphones. They make computers on the side for those who don't like ports and don't care about upgrades and repairs. In any case, the company has found its customer base and will continue making these sorts of products as long as there are buyers.

They sell "Pro" products to people who want in on that lucrative phone market.

The reason why so many despise Tim Cook has nothing to do with hatred. It is because Apple now in comparison to when Steve Jobs was alive release products so closed down. The Apple ecosystem is no longer for the consumer but all focus is on the shareholder.
Just unsubstantiated hyperbole and your opinion only.

While I do point out shortcomings of their lines and inconsistencies with the original purposes of the the various models. I can't argue with the end result.

For everyone who wants a cheap Mac. Hackintosh is a choice. I don't see the point really. Windows works fine for me. I've still got Macs but I hardly ever touch them.

But this is how they made all that money; by duping their consumers with expensive garbage products over the last 6+ years.

For whatever reason, Apple consumers still buy their devices. Total mystery to me.. o_O

With all the disdain for Apple I can only wonder.. Why do you continue to use their products? Being unhappy about a certain product or decision here or there is normal, but this constant need to bash anything and everything they do is just insane. The rose tinted glasses for the Jobs Apple is getting old. There were missteps under his supervision too. He has been gone 7 years. The company has done nothing but grow since he died. Really, I don't care that they hit 1T. The only reason I like it is because it helps prove this echo chamber of "pros" wrong.

People buy products that work well for them. Apple has the highest customer satisfaction scores around. What is such a mystery?

Mac Mini: no it isn't, then what? Nobody buys those type of products anymore, everybody buys laptops, much less people that buy desktops and then upgrade them.

Interesting, the Intel NUC seems to counter the argument that people don't buy these type of computers any more.
