pretty sure the delay is about relying only on voice commands for volume control.
hopefully they figured a way to use the accelerometers for upward and downward swipes.

Surprised Tim responded.

The person who wrote to him was so rude-very unprofessional.

I disagree. Apple made a very bold move in removing the headphone jack.....announce wireless earbuds, announce theyll be available 6 weeks after the launch of a new phone, dont ship them on time, then dont give any estimate of when they're expected to be available. People have a right to be pissed. I want a pair. My girlfriend wants a pair for christmas to use with her Apple Watch. Count me in the crowd thats pissed off they didn't even give us any ETA.

I'll solve that problem right now. Tap and hold the left airpod to lower volume, the right to raise volume. Tap once to play or pause. Double tap to skip a track, tripple tap to go back a track.

How hil

(apologize for the levity)

How hilarious would it be if Tim composed his reply with his AirPods.

I was actually imagining this as I read your post and was laughing out loud. This was hilarious. I bet he was wearing them.

Wired fraying? Accidentally breaking them when trying to untangle? Less weight from the wire making them more difficult to fall out?

Just the fact that I don't have to be wired to my phone all the time is good enough for me.
Apple clearly disagree with everything you have said, since they still ship with WIRED earphones.

Next excuse....

Oh and you do realise it was possible to use wireless headphones in previous versions, that also had the headphone jack?

that way you won't know what the step is, plus it would be annoying to repeat over and over.

swipes would be the way to go imho, (hold the swipe down to mute) (you want to hear outside without taking them off)

The demanding tone of the customer's e-mail was incredibly rude. However valid his frustration, there's no excuse for that.

I'm surprised he got a response. Directly contacting the very busy CEO of a major corporation is already beyond reasonable. But even more shameful is the vague, arrogant "you can wait for us" tone of Tim's response (my interpretation). Even though he said sorry, it didn't feel to come with true sincerity. Not "I am sorry" or "We are sorry", just "Sorry". Maybe I'm reading too much into it, but I think responses to customers need to meet a certain standard of care and attention. They need to express true regret for not delivering on a promise. Customers are everything to a business, after all.

This new Campus 2.0 better reboot Apple, because they are slowly fading into the scenery.

Why is it ok because everyone else is more rude "on the internet?" If someone talked to me like that in person, I'd laugh in their face and walk away.

"Give us the release date". The entire tone of the message was rude and childish.

I want these earphones as much as anyone, but emailing the CEO and demanding a release date lets us know that guy is very self entitled. There is a much more professional way to address these concerns directly to the CEO (if you think that's a good way to do it), and he chose not to.

Tim deemed it worthy of a response

What are you therefore concerned about? Don't think he needs another minder ..

I don't care how good the tech is in these things.

The Airpods are laughably ugly. I WILL laugh at people wearing them.

Out loud.

If you write to Apple's CEO (or MS or any big corp or government agency) you don't exchange pleasantries. A CEO skims through the emails that are passed to him by his staff... You have to be as direct as possible; the CEO's time is very valuable both in term of money and needs. Not filling the email with crap is actually a form of respect.
That email was not rude, it was direct.

The person who wrote the note came off as a petulant child.

They don’t disagree at all. You just get a pair of the cheapest way to listen to music as a freebie with your iPhone, because you’re buying an iPhone, not a set of earphones.

Next straw man argument...

I don't get the rudeness bark either. I actually thought it was mostly complimentary in terms of "buying in."

I always find it odd the emails Apple's big wigs choose to respond to. How does that even work? Is there a random process built in? I'm sure there is a human element but I'm curious what the system is that gets them elevated.

I need to see/feel/try these things before I would consider dropping that much money on them. With that said, I have loved the EarPods since their release. They are easily my favorite earbud style headphone out there in terms of comfort. They stay in fine when I run too. Obviously, wireless would be a nice upgrade but yeah... need to try them in action and maybe see some reviews from runners.

Many customers are anxiously anticipating the release of Apple's wireless AirPods, originally slated to launch in October but later delayed. Fortunately, the wait may soon be over.

MacRumors has been forwarded an email in which Apple CEO Tim Cook, responding to a customer, allegedly said he anticipates AirPods to begin shipping "over the next few weeks."MacRumors has verified the email's full headers appear to originate from Apple's corporate servers, while Apple executives are known to respond to customers on occasion, but as a boilerplate disclaimer, it should be noted these emails can of course be faked. Apple did not immediately respond to request for comment.

Apple has so far only said it needed "a little more time" before AirPods are ready for customers, while conflicting rumors have pointed towards release dates between December and January, offering little clarity. AirPods remain listed as both "coming soon" and "currently unavailable" on different sections of Apple's website.

Really? I kinda enjoyed it lol. No sugarcoating bs, just frustration. Hope it gave Tim and his cohorts a little kick up the ass to get moving
Exactly. These safe space apologetics seem to think it should have gone something like this.

A hmmm'

Dearest MrCEO T. Cook

I ananxiously awaiting authorizing a transaction in the amount of $159.00 + applicable sales tax, as well as fund for expedited shipping or a pie of your most visionary AirPods. Would you be kind enough to illuminate a ball park estimation for when I might be able to authorize this electronic fund transfer. I know you are incredibly busy and I hope this message hasn't detracted from any important social engagements.

Sincereliest yours,
Apple ID user #847969725I7

PS. Again I apologize for troubling you regarding the product you announced and set your own target date for release and I am just they guy trying to give you my money.
