The ESPN shots are so much better. How is this shot possible with an iPhone though let along any smartphone? Where was it photographed from? Roof top? Drone, strapped onto a huge selfie stick?

That shot of the NYC skyline is jaw dropping:
The US open pics look much better then what Tim Cook shared. The US open pics are at least somewhat impressive.
And I get the feeling if someone said these came from the Galaxy S7 or Note people here would be praising them and that Apple has a long way to go to catch up. ;)
As someone who has the following phones:

6S
6S+
6+
Note 5
S7 Edge
Note 4
Note Edge

I actually prefer the pictures of the Note 5 above all, then Note 4 and Note Edge over the iPhones. When I need to take a picture, I grab one of the Samsungs.

Tim Cook shared the US Open photos link on Twitter.

I've got to ask, do you have a Batman-like utility belt, or are you sporting all of those Rambo ammunition style? :p

LOL I have six phones activated on T-Mobile sims but I have the 6S+ using my main sim and I bring usually the Note 5 with me everyday. The rest stay home.

Damn, I was hoping for a pic of someone with phones just duct taped all around them lol

14 page topic so I'm definitely repeating some people in here I'm sure, but these photos do no play to the strength of the new iPhone 7 camera. Wonder why they didn't try any of the "portrait" mode with these? Some of these would have been a good candidate.

Guarantee someone could take indistinguishable photos with a 6S+.

edit: the tennis shots do look better and give a better idea of the 7's camera. The NFL photos are head scratching.

the ESPN photos are much much better, i guss a lot of photos where taken with the optical zoom

Because the portrait mode isn't there at launch...as made explicit in the keynote it will be enabled later this year.

Portrait mode I believe is coming in a future update and you will get to see in a couple of days when the NDA is lifted.

As far as the photos with a 6s+, maybe yes, maybe no. I'm sure a thorough comparison against the 6s and galaxy s7 is already in the works. You won't have to wait to long to see it.

I got over 100k just in lenses and these pictures look like crap. One of my camera body alone is 30k by itself with no lens. I'll be highly embarrassed to show these pictures off.
I'm guessing you're not a big fan of apples-to-apples comparisons? I would certainly hope your overpriced lenses would take a better picture than the camera in an iPhone. How about we compare the iPhone 7 to a drugstore disposable film camera? Aren't these pictures fabulous? ;)

I was considering a 7+ for the camera. But now I'll stick with my 6 for sure. iPhone cameras have been great in good light for some time, hence the "shot on iPhone" campaign. These pics don't look any better than the best from those ads. I'm not sure why Apple didn't wait to feature the new bokeh feature. That would showcase the phone. But these -- the background isn't nearly out of focus as needed, just as you'd expect from a pocket camera. What is Apple showcaseing here? That they can pay off a sports magazine to publish pictures using it's camea. Lame.

Agreed, what an odd comparison to make.

Pay attention to detail and you'll notice that you're looking at a 1300x1000 image. Any modern smartphone down-res'ed to 1.3MP will show the same level of detail in photos like this—bright daylight shot at base ISO.

This really and they have probably been sharpened for that resolution so look very blurry on my 15 inch macbook pro retina.

I was very excited until I went to the updated link with the ESPN photos...

Found that several of the photos have blown out whites (checkout the dog, foreheads, white towels in the Wilson dispenser, etc.) or over saturated blacks/grays with little variation... I hope this was user error and no HDR used...

SI photos look awesome so I think this proves that pro photogs can kick the ass of consumers when picking shots or setting up shots... or the SI photos were cherry picked...

EDIT: Looks like the ESPN sets are from a Professional... there goes my Pro Photog argument...

Football. Isn't this the sport with the guys disrespecting the USA by sitting during the national anthem?

Nothing wrong with cherry picking photos since they still come out of the camera. No camera can produce great pictures 100% of the time due to numerous variables that come into play during the recording.

Are we looking at the same pictures? I think they look great! The problem I see with people is that they don't realise how good these images are on a smart phone, a device that's small enough to fit in your pocket. Phil even said himself during the keynote, that they don't expect people to be throwing out their DSLR cameras. I for one can't wait for my 7 Plus to arrive!
