They look pretty good, It has certainly handled the lighting well in the American flag skydiver picture. As many on here have already stated though, these are truly optimal conditions for a camera and don't really stretch the technical capabilities of the setup. I live in the UK where the weather is less than stellar - days like the one pictured come around about once a decade. I would therefore be more interested to see low light shots and how it handles white balance indoors.

Samsung when they launched their S7 line had specific demonstration booths (including low light booths) set up to show off their latest and greatest, they were obviously very confident and shouted about it accordingly. Apple would/should be doing the same given that for some a phones camera is a big incentive to upgrade, they seem to be a bit slow in supplying samples other than these ones which makes me wonder if they are as confident in the camera setup as they could be. This is pure speculation of course.

Looks like the iPhone 7 plus is the be gold standard in mobile photography.

Based on these pics???

I suspect that if MR posted the same pics, without saying what phone they came from, many posters would be confused, and not sure if to hate or love them.

Uh? iPhones 7s are on their way to customers, the world will be flooded with their pictures in a few days.

I'm talking about marketing prior to launch, I have seen no other real world samples or heard much hype. My point is that if the camera is as good as they say, I would of assumed that they would market the hell out of it in order to drum up more excitement.

These look like snapshots anyone could snap with a 5-year-old smartphone if they had access to the sidelines.

But since they're done with an iPhone then they're magical.
Exactly. I saw these on Twitter earlier and I was thinking the same thing. They called them stunning but what is stunning about those? I've had pictures taken on my Note 4 that looked as "impressive" as these.

Lol...duh...With the bright lighting and all the bright colors around you it is much harder to screw up then it is take a crisp beautiful picture...with just about any camera. (still very excited to get my hands on my 7 Friday)

It is possible for Apple to include the same dual camera system in the 4.7" model or does the smaller size actually prevent this?

I think it's interesting that the 6S+ was the only one to get OIS but all of a sudden it's introduced to the 4.7" model this year. Is this just Apple's way of driving costumers to go with the Plus model?

Probably a combination of a few different things:

- The parts are more expensive (much like you get more features on bigger, pricier cars - even though it would be nice for the smaller Mercedes A-Class to have the same feature set as the S-Class it's not likely to happen).
- The Plus costs more, $120 for a few extra features to justify the cost seems sensible.
- Physics/engineering - we see the tear downs at iFixit how cramped modern smart phones are. Usually tech shrinks over time, allowing extra features to be added to smaller frames.
- Allows trialling of new features in smaller quantities as the Plus sells fewer units than the regular model.
- Some up-sell, from a business standpoint Apple would probably prefer users to buy the bigger phone, but I don't think many people are going to be swayed. Standard photos are identical between the iPhone 7 and 7 Plus - only the zoom and future portrait mode use the tele photo lens differ.

Probably a few other reasons. But I doubt there's a huge conspiracy theory to get people to upgrade. Some people just can't use such a large phone. I reckon it's in Apple's long term interest to add the extra features to the smaller version where they can.

The comments in this post.......this place has gotten completely ridiculous. Another 50 comment pages of dumpster fire. Sometimes I wish we could just delete the Internet and start over.

Love the coverage MacRumors provides. Can't stand the forums any more. I think I'm out for good. This community has gone nowhere but downhill.

Mostly agree. But that's people in general unfortunately. You get enough people from all walks of life discussing one thing and those that are just trolling/hating/adding nothing will out number the decent ones. And with Apple's popularity rising so much over the last decade MacRumors as a community has suffered.

1. You could try signing up to the RSS feed - so you get all the stories and none of the comments (I do this at work via Outlook).
2. The forum settings have an "Ignore" section. So you can add the usual suspects to that. This helps a lot.

Maybe they should have uploaded the full size images instead of downsizing them to a third of the original. Then you would see how good they look.

People really don't understand photography commenting on here like they be knowing. I think iPhones in general do a great job at metering and not over exposing highlights. These pics show how well the iphone meters a portrait and exposes them really well while not blowing out the blue sky. Hand a person a DSLR and chances are that sky would have been white.

I got over 100k just in lenses and these pictures look like crap. One of my camera body alone is 30k by itself with no lens. I'll be highly embarrassed to show these pictures off.

Some of the writers in this thread is comparing the iPhone 7 to expensive DSLR's and mean the DSLR is better. No **** Pedro! It's like saying that a Ferrari have more horsepowers than my Volkswagen.

Compare Apples to Apples, and Oranges to Oranges, without being rude, please.

BTW; Doesn't matter if a *insert whatever brand and price of camera you want* is better than the iPhone 7, the best camera is the one you have with you!

I agree with you but then again shouting about "golden standard" of mobile photography is BS fanboyism until real world comparisons are out. By neutral sites.

I agree. Great photos, but a little misleading. I'd like to see how the zoom on both cameras would work for normal people in normal folk seats.

Nothing spectacular. Whites are blown out in some pics, and Tim is doing a bad job at promoting the iPhone. Why not to upload pictures shoot at evening, with a nice evening sky, neon lights, that artifical blur... Oh I forgot blur isn't ready yet. But still low light samples like the ones they did show at the event would be much better.
And strange issues with GPS data there. Seems like it's broken or it was some preproduction phone.

agreed. the mouth foaming haters have ruined the MR forums. they really should have a troll rule the mods.

Has any photography site commented about these pics yet? Be interested in seeing the difference in opinion between a tech site and a photography enthusiast site.

On my RMBP they look really good, wouldn't say sharp necessarily, but the colours are lovely. Depth of field great too.

Hmm, they look like photos. Phone cameras a really great now.. These ones don't really wow me particularly. Im much more impressed with the bokeh/depth of field stuff for portrait photos that is coming in a software update later - that represents something I'd normally have to use my "real" camera for. TBH I'm not sure that the iPhone 6 and up couldn't have taken photos this good in these perfect conditions.

LOL, all pictures are in bright scene, which can be captured perfectly by even iPhone 5s. Different case if he tried in dark scene ha..ha..

Following the announcement of the iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus last Wednesday, Apple CEO Tim Cook today tweeted out a link to some of the first official photos that have been taken using the advanced photography capabilities of the larger, 5.5-inch iPhone 7 Plus.

Taken by Sports Illustrated photographer David E. Klutho, the pictures come from the Titans-Vikings game that took place earlier today. Using the iPhone 7 Plus, Klutho was able to take advantage of Apple's new dual-lens 12-megapixel camera, and the 2x optical zoom feature exclusive to the larger model iPhone.

Klutho's shots provide evidence of the crisp and bright photos that can be taken with the iPhone 7 Plus and its second 12-megapixel telephoto lens, but the collection lacks an example of improved low-light photography that Apple touted in the debut ad for the iPhone 7.

Later in the year, the camera app on the iPhone 7 Plus will also be getting a new feature called "Portrait," letting users create photos where the two cameras intelligently detect faces in the foreground, while adding an artful blur effect to elements in the background.

The smaller 4.7-inch iPhone 7 packs in similar high-quality photo-taking abilities, without the second telephoto lens and 2x optical zoom. Both new iPhones were announced alongside the Apple Watch Series 2 and AirPods last week in San Francsico. The iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus are expected to arrive this Friday, September 16, with the lucky first batch of pre-order customers already receiving shipment notifications.
