No doubt the camera will be an improvement on the 6S, but these images do not sell it for me. Im sure in those lighting conditions the 6S Plus would have also captured similar images.

Im sure we will see better images in the future. This is just marketing kicking in.

Yawn - more 'sports' photos taken by a 'pro' photographer.
Seem to remember similar photos from the iPhone 6S launch - lots of bright colors and action to make the subject more interesting.
They look fine at this size but I'd like to see what they look like at their original size (which of course they don't show).

What Apple need to do is get photographers who actually just shoot iPhone to put the cameras through their paces - you know - the actual real world users.
Not pro photographers who simply go back to their DSLRs after clicking a few shots and handing the phone back to Apple.

This new camera HAS to be far superior to what I have in my 8MP iPhone 6 Plus which is pretty darn good (but sucks in low-light) or I'm not interested in iPhone 7 Plus.
I know a few people who upgraded from a 5S to 6S and found the camera difference negligible (and they are iPhone photography nuts).
Yeah MP are not everything so staying at 12MP is not as bad as it sounds but the camera really needs to kick butt in the 7 Plus.
Hopefully we'll see some more photo samples soon.

These look like snapshots anyone could snap with a 5-year-old smartphone if they had access to the sidelines.

But since they're done with an iPhone then they're magical.
I agree, something just don't look right. The photos almost look fake like very good graphics on a video game or something. I can't pinpoint it exactly. I am not impressed. I have the Lenovo moto g4 plus and it's photos are better in my opinion but that's why I bought this phone, being it's one of the most raved about phone cameras on YouTube this year. It's definitely in the top 10. I have absolutely no complaints with my phones camera, especially when my phone cost $300.00 compared to $850.00 I say I got the better part of that deal there. The IPhone 7 plus is $500.00 more then the moto g 4 plus and the photos are about the same. My video is excellent also.

You know, a lot of expensive equipments, allows you the ability to talk about your expensive equipment. That's all. So you compare top of the line camera equipment against a tiny cell phone sensor and lenses? All cell phones will loose. Sheesh.

With photography, you get what you pay for. Unlike high end audio etc, physics is you co-pilot here and you can really see the difference in glass.

Ok guys go to the source because the pictures on macrumors are blurry. But the source pictures are quite good.

I looked at these in Photoshop Fix and they are only 1300x1000 pixels. You can't judge the full quality until you get full resolution pictures. Plus RAW version would let you adjust the colours etc so these colours and other effects are not final

I repeat it's not Tim Cook, but a professional photographer using iPhone to take photo. That guy can use any camera and still take good photo. On the other hand a regular person using an expensive DSLR camera and still take a crappy photos. SMH!

Thank you! I was just about to comment on this can't really judge based on a 1.33MP image.

That is not the debate. I agree with you 100%, but we are not talking high-end sensors or expensive glass. We're discussing iphone 7 against the 6s, 6 and Samsung galaxy s7 and whether it's better than the previous iteration or not. Seems like typical responses, varied.

Apple should have used the second lens in the way they that Linx company did it. Take two pictures at the same time to create one better image. It would technically double the size of the lens. I was actually surprised that apple's current setup only does zoom and eventually bokeh.

Agreed.

I was hoping they would use both lenses/sensors to make better images. But at least the 2X zoom will be useful.

I'm not sure about the fake bokeh or "fauxkeh" effect though.

Bokeh is great when it's the OPTICS that enable it. Anything other than that is a digital effect.

Oh sure... the dual-cameras will sense the separation of the subject and the background in real time.

But the result is still akin to the Photoshop blur effect.

I just hope that the new processing engines doesn't turn even the best-lit photos into water paintings due to very aggressive (and needless) noise-reduction that I get on my 6.

I don't even bother taking photos with it much anymore because of that and the apparent lack of any kind of distortion lens-correction.

Not bad shots, nothing to go crazy over compared to the stiff competition. It's posted on social media websites for maximum traffic, however it's compressed to the point that any benefit or gains in image quality are lost due to heavy compression.

If it was me trying to sell the image quality of my new phone, why post images with heavy compression and of optimal lighting conditions. Weird. OIS I have taken great shots with my 6S plus. This is a poor example to not go crazy over, hopefully next year. Remember that iOS 10 may have tweaked these images a little along with the Image Processing upgrades. Hard to say for certain.

It's not only the equipment or the artist ability that make for a good shot, it's a combination of both with a sense of good timing of being at the right place at the right time. If you don't understand this, you are compensating your shortcomings. Cheers.

It is possible for Apple to include the same dual camera system in the 4.7" model or does the smaller size actually prevent this?

I think it's interesting that the 6S+ was the only one to get OIS but all of a sudden it's introduced to the 4.7" model this year. Is this just Apple's way of driving costumers to go with the Plus model?
Headphone jack took up a lot of space. I'm sure they moved things around a bit and that helped.

Right it's what's behind the lens. But then again if I were going into surgery and the tool the surgeon had was a hacksaw...The right tool for the right job.

I agree. I recently decided to try Windows 10 phone and bought the Lumia 950XL which I since returned. One thing I really miss now is the camera. That phone had the best camera. Amazing photos. The iPhone doesn't even come close. It will be interesting to see the improvements with iPhone 7.

And why can't we take wide format images with the iPhone? 4:3 looks so dated.

I was thinking the same thing! They look no better than my Fuji camera from 2006. I'm very serious. And these were taken in broad daylight too. I know the iPhone is capable of better images. This guy must have been zooming the entire time. They're godawful. Looks like it's going to be a long time before DSLRs become extinct.

EDIT: OK Praise the lord. The images on MR suck. The originals are great.

Pay attention to detail and you'll notice that you're looking at a 1300x1000 image. Any modern smartphone down-res'ed to 1.3MP will show the same level of detail in photos like this—bright daylight shot at base ISO.
