I got over 100k just in lenses and these pictures look like crap. One of my camera body alone is 30k by itself with no lens. I'll be highly embarrassed to show these pictures off.

Me think thou protest too much... I think your comment of "Over $100K in class...One camera body alone $30k..." is just overkill... You've got $200K in equipment? And the more I think about it, what camera body do you have that is $30k by itself?

So what?

Just because someone owns a Lamborghini doesn't make them an expert in cars or driving...

The pictures look pretty good on Si.com... Apple's getting some good PR from it.

As with most things, your mileage may vary.

I've been shooting sports and outdoors for 35 years as a (paid) hobby and people always comment "You must have a really good camera!" LOL! Check my signature... Canon 50d + $3K in lenses... I'm going to upgrade to a 7D this fall and I'll be thrilled with it. I still take many pictures with my iPhone 6+... Some of them are good, some not... I'd be curious to know how many pictures the SI photog took vs. what they posted.

People ask "What's the best camera?" The response should always be "The one you have with you." *Paraphrasing Jim Brandenburg. If people like the camera in their new phones and take more & better pictures and like what they've done. More power to them.

Right it's what's behind the lens. But then again if I were going into surgery and the tool the surgeon had was a hacksaw...The right tool for the right job.
If it looks this good heavly compressed then it's going to look amazing on my new phone especially with the wide colour spectrum
I suppose for some people, sunshine, blue skies, and green grass, are sufficient to make any photo look good...?

They are really blurry photos...
put you focals on

Depends what type of surgery you are going for, a hacksaw might be the right tool. :p:D

These photos are absolutely stunning. I cannot wait to start shooting photos from my new iPhone 7 Plus 256GB device. I feel seriously sorry for anyone who is choosing to stay with even the iPhone 6s Plus because the cameras in these new phones are a million miles ahead of what you've got.

If you can afford to upgrade, upgrade. These new iPhones truly are the best iPhones Apple has ever made.

That is not the debate. I agree with you 100%, but we are not talking high-end sensors or expensive glass. We're discussing iphone 7 against the 6s, 6 and Samsung galaxy s7 and whether it's better than the previous iteration or not. Seems like typical responses, varied.

Yeah, you are right .

I agree. I recently decided to try Windows 10 phone and bought the Lumia 950XL which I since returned. One thing I really miss now is the camera. That phone had the best camera. Amazing photos. The iPhone doesn't even come close. It will be interesting to see the improvements with iPhone 7.

And why can't we take wide format images with the iPhone? 4:3 looks so dated.

Pity the platform is a laughable mess (I know, I own a 650 which is going back to the shop today due to be TOTALLY CRAP)

I wish the 7 had the same camera—kinda unfair to limit the cool things to the Plus. (Yeah, yeah, bigger size, more space for internals blabla, still...)

The depth of field kills these shots. I don't want to see players and the audience in sharp focus. Hopefully the software will fix this.

I agree but initial release of depth-mapped DoF will only work with portraits where a face is clearly detected by the ISP; thus, a distant football player in a helmet probably won't allow it to work.

Apple may later add a feature to allow manual DoF modification in post-processing from DNG file pairs.

Are they great? No. Better than past iPhones? Yeah. When viewing them here, I'd say its an even mix of some blurry and some relatively crisp. The colors do look rather saturated, similar to photos taken with a Samsung. As many have pointed out, the noise in some of these photos can be hard to get past. For a phone these are, in my unprofessional opinion, pretty good. Also, stop attacking people for being "Apple fanboys" or negative "Apple haters," its really unhealthy.

Be less rude, and more intelligent. I am right, because my opinion relies on fact. 800x600 is very low resolution for a photo. How about you put your "focals" on.

LOL - "I am right, because my opinion relies on fact" - a phrase which is used almost as frequently as that which is used by new prison inmates: "I shouldn't be in here, I did nothing wrong".

It clearly takes up some
^ Clearly not an electronics engineer. 3.5mm jacks take up NOTHING, space wise, nor do SIM cards.

Armchair engineers. Pffft.

It clearly takes SOME room. You can argue on how much additional space is gained from the removal, but it is ridiculous to say that the SIM and 3.5mm port take "nothing" in something as small as a phone.
