While I do agree with your premise, The same could be said about politicians getting involved with business.
Yes!! I don't want a leader of the free world telling me what's wrong with my washing machine. Joking aside people can't be good and play every role known-to-man.

I am perfectly ok with legal immigration.
But the "dreamers" are illegal

My only question about dreamers is that most (if not all) are adults now. Why have they not applied for citizenship? They pay $500 every two years since they "came out". Why stay on a "work/school visa" to be here? They have passed all the background investigations for DACA, why hesitate to become citizens?

Ok, I lied...there are three questions...

Simple answers to your "three" questions: catch 22 in three parts.
  1. The "dreamers" have violated immigration laws (as DACA awardees, to no fault of their own). [Equivalently, I assume you are born in the US, to no fault of your own -- if we can assume Texas is US territory. /s]
  2. USCIS, the immigration service, mandates that to attain permanent residency (the first step to citizenship) one needs proof of no immigration violations.
  3. Thereby, the application of DACA awardees will always be denied.

How? They are in a country illegally, and DACA only give them permission to work, but not citizenship.
There are existing systems in place that would allow them to work to become legal immigrants and/or citizens, yes it is difficult, but these dreamers were given a break to begin the process of becoming legal immigrants and/or citizens. I am not saying that the process could have been completed during that time, but did they even take the opportunity to start the process?

If not, then I am sorry, but their parents knew the potential consequences for both themselves and their children when they brought them here illegally. I know it may not seem fair, but here is a news flash, life isn't fair.

More problems because Obama circumvented the law because he could not get a law passed because he could not be a team player. Hopefully Trump fares better and we can make it legal for those brought by their parents illegally as children to stay.

Cook said "dreamers," or individuals who were brought to the United States at a young age when their parents or guardians illegally immigrated to the country,"...

Credit to MacRumors for using the word “illegally.” It’s an important distinction and I’m honestly surprised the word was used.
Why is it, in all of this discussion, the parents aren't held accountable? They put their own kids at risk of this "stranger in a familiar land" problem.

Cook added that "all companies should have values," since they are nothing more than "a collection of people."

Right. Except in China. Apple is ok with not having values in regards to anything in China.

Ah! Excellent point! I remember reading something like “Apple respects the laws in countries Apple operates”.

Talking about respecting the laws...

This is exactly why I hate Tim Cook. He hijacks events and communications to his own employees to push his own personal political agendas.

I'm not against Tim Cook having these agendas, just he needs to stop pushing them on Apple time. Do it on his own time. Tim Cook is paid to be Apple CEO, not political lobbyist.

How do we know all dreamers deeply love this country?
We don't, but the overall stats, which I don't have a link to at the moment but read several weeks ago, are encouraging. If you take external signs like completing high school and pursuing higher education, the rates at which they fulfill these commitments above the general population indicates they have some investment in living out their lives here. Also, I would think if they didn't, they'd try to leave and find shelter with families in their countries of origin, giving that so many people are telling them to get out.

I'm very critical of illegal immigration and the problems and price to society in turning a blind eye to it. But I'm also pragmatic about some situations and these people didn't choose to immigrate illegally but made the best of their lives while here (for the most part). It would be cutting off our nose to spite our face, so to speak, to turn them out now when our tax money has already educated them and helped make them productive members of our society.

I think the problem with DACA was that it was yet another unsustainable executive order that could be easily overturned and leave the people who depended upon it adrift. It should have been properly legislated from the beginning. I think it's somewhat unfair that the President, whom I am no fan of, has taken so much criticism for ending it and putting it to Congress where it belongs.

I did vote for Obama the first time around and I quickly grew very wary of the flimsy foundation he set his legacy upon. I am not overly fond of any president relying too heavily upon executive orders and burdening our courts with the necessity of ruling on the legality of them all.

I've noticed many media outlets suddenly using the words "illegal", "illegally" when talking about Dreamers. It seems to be a move to maximize sympathy by drawing the starkest contrast between the actions of their parents and their own innocence.

It really is a silly statement. Half the American citizens I know do not love this country, "deeply" or otherwise.

It's a pretty important qualifier for anyone who respects a rule of law. Obama screwed this up. This is the problem with surpassing congress by trying to write a "law" on a piece of paper (executive order) the next guy who occupies the oval office can wipe his ass with. He and their parents put their lives in limbo.

I will not argue with what you said. It was and still is an illegal executive order. I actually would like them to send it to the SCOTUS to legally prove it and treat it as such.

The fact that POTUS sent it to congress to do something about it, and their reluctance to even touch it proves the point that a boundary (pun intended) was crossed.

I do not blame the kids...when they were kids for their parents actions, however, I do blame them for not correcting once it was known.

I have lived along the border in two states, I have seen the issues it has caused in both.

If I were to blame anyone, I would blame the country of origin for the standards of living there that forced these people to make the dangerous journey in the first place. I also blame the politicians for refusing to fix our immigration issues so these people, when they wanted to cross legally, weren't held in red tape. That is the reason for illegal crossings.

I do use a computer (my google fu is strong) and I use life experiences. I also know this is how politicians use them as pawns in their sick and demented games they play in DC.

Someone should tell the Righties stop blaming brown people for all your problems. It's the wealthy that are taking advantage of the system and keep doing so when you elected an elitist into government.
Yup. It's not the Mexicans that took your jobs, it's the largely conservative CEOs that shipped your jobs overseas so their share prices could go up a few points. It's the ridiculously expensive education system that prevents you from getting a better education to get a better job, and weighs you down with massive debt if you do.

But no, it's easier to blame immigrants, and then go to Walmart to buy a deeply-discounted $100 Made in China TV.

Congress is too broken to pass legislation that does what much of the executive orders do. Congress just bicker and block the other side so much that only watered down compromises pass. Legislation so compromised that most of it's effectiveness is gone.

"I also know this is how politicians use them as pawns in their sick and demented games they play in DC." Agree, totally.

It pains me to see the "Games of Mirrors" being played by politicians. A simple formula is being played: Throw red meat to a mindless, rabid electorate, and redirect their anger so they can blame all their ills on a few, powerless people.

This has happened throughout centuries. This is just a replay edition.

And, we can see the rabid reaction to this "Games of Mirrors", even here, with some of the comments being made.

You know the thing about Tim Cook that people find egregious. He is a man selling us phones and computers. Now would you listen to the man who sold you a washing machine talk about politics? Tim seems to think he has the right to mouth off because he believes his products are magical and so are his utterings. Either get into politics or shut up.

AMEN! He is a political fool that only cares about foreigners because they increase his profit margins, thus making his stock holders LOVE him.

Nice kumbaya utopian spin there Tim. Sorry but my ancestors didn't illegally sneak across anywhere.

That you know of.

He's a titan of industry that is responsible for one of the most valuable companies in the world. And even if he wasn't that, he's an American, he can speak out about whatever he wants, whether his products are magical or not. Why should he shut up? Because you don't like what he says?
