no doubt it'll come in 3 flavours: 50mph - $20999 80mph - $25999 120mph - $30999

Probably not. Take a look at how Tesla prices their cars.

$63 K gets you 5.5 seconds 0-60 MPH. (70)
$68 K gets you 5.2 " (70D)
$78 K gets you 4.2 " (90D)
$98K gets you 3.1 " (P90D)
$108K gets you 2.8 " (P90D w/ Ludicrous)

#1 - Your prices seem low. Remember: The Apple Watch ranges in price from $300 - $17K. Apple prices themselves as a luxury company. They don't sell $100 watches. Similarly, they won't sell $20K cars. Expect them to be in the range of what the Tesla Model S costs (https://www.teslamotors.com/models/design)

#2 - Top speed seems like a dumb thing to offer for more money. 50 MPH would be utterly worthless. I think doing what Tesla does, increasing the acceleration, seems more likely. The base model goes from 0-60 MPH in 5.5 seconds. That's not bad - my current car does it in 7 seconds and I don't feel like my car is particularly slow. Their top end car does it in half the time - 2.8 seconds. That's insa - no, ludicrous. That makes it the 6th fastest car in existence. The 5 faster cars each cost more than twice as much and are exotic two seater sports cars.

Queue jokes/complaints related to other products and how Apple can't get that right so they shouldn't be working on a car.

Given the bugs in iOS and OS X, the crazy patches and built in obsolesces you'd have to be a fruit crazed fanboy to even consider one :p

Whoever comes up with completely autonomous car will take my money. I hope Apple understands the need and demand for it, considering its long history of accessibility features.

unlike the endless and mindless product iterations that have been ongoing for the past years, this could turn out to be something innovative and interesting!

Just don't expect to be able to change ANY working part like the battery or windshield wipers yourself, the car might not open up after the next firmware update...

That goes beyond what an OEM will be able to do themselves. There will, almost certainly need to be an infrastructure in place to accommodate that.

When I read these kind of comments I feel like people believe there's 100 people at Apple. They all work in a room together one project at the time, if they are working on the iPhone 7 they can't work on OS X, and they have already enough products, can't work on a car. LOL I'm pretty sure if there's a Car division at Apple, and they're working on it, people working on the watch, iPhone, and Mac knows as much as we do about it.

Like in any major company, I think there's only few major key people that oversee multiple projects, just to make sure everything blends in. Surely they're not stopping the Mac or iOS people to tell them: "come over here and work on this Car software for a month instead of iOS 10."

You're forgetting the fact that there will most likely be integration between the car, phone, possibly the watch, etc. This means that there will be X amount of people in the car division working on integration between the devices, Y amount of people in the phone division, Z amount in the watch, and whatever other divisions there are in the company - depending on how many devices Apple wants to integrate.

I'm not saying that there's a small amount of people working on the car. I'm saying that because of the inevitable cross links between the car and the Apple products, both sides will need to work with each other and share resources and time for this to all work.

If you're trying to push the car out by 2017 or 18, then obviously you'll need more people on both sides and more labor work. That'll mean less focus on whatever specific products they're working on. If you're extending that to 2019 or 2020, then obviously you can space it out.

Read more into my comment next time.

I'm excited to see what Apple comes up with. And I'm in no hurry. I just bought a car. My next car will probably be a Tesla Model 3 (I'll put down a deposit on April 1 if I like what I see in Tesla's reveal).

When Apple shows what it's been working on, I'll take a look and see if it's something I'm interested in buying.

Even funnier is the notion that somehow things are so much worse than before. They've been "fixing" the Mac since 1984 and the iPhone since 2007. Nostalgia is a powerful drug.

When I use Apple's software lately (Music, Photos, Pages, etc.) — sometimes missing features that were there before, other times more glitchy or less intuitive — I feel like there really are 100 people at Apple.

You know with all the whiners here you would think that Apple comes to your house, puts a gun to your head and makes you pay for something you don't want. If Apple products are over priced then the only ones to blame are the idiots who over pay for them.

If the products aren't worth what they are charging, don't buy them. If someone is making a product that represents a better value to you then go to their site and praise them. I'm sick of all the crybabies on MR. I'm not saying Apple doesn't have things to criticize, but you guys just make yourselves look foolish to bash Apple and then send them your money.

They could easily design a new $1000 TV set, it would sell like hotcakes and cement their position in the living room for at least a decade.

But let's go ahead and build a car.

Hi Tim! Even though your iOS and OS X are very glitchy, I just want to let you know that I will trust your glitchy car to take me places because I know your cars will lead me to death. I applaud for your effort. While I'm at it...I want to thank you for Apple map that takes me 25 min further away from my destination. I also want to comment on Apple symbol. Instead of bitten off Apple symbol you should replace it with bitten car symbol!
I know your cars will have defects and will announce repair problem 4 years later.

Get back to computers!

2019 or 2020? Good. Please first focus on fixing the software and hardware on your computers, phones, and watches before venturing and expanding out more than you can afford to

Yeah, I am sure they will have the car designers and automotive experts hop right on iOS software debugging.

True. It's probably a similar set to those that act as if Apple's competitors are forcing them as well (IE - [OEM] is going to come over, steal their iPhone and force them at gunpoint to use their device instead)

i welcome competition in this space, but they've got an uphill battle to win me over from tesla's corner. those guys have the rebellious, game-changing spirit that i miss from old apple.
