Actually, if Trump got elected it might unite the parties against a common enemy, lol. And either every stupid/dangerous thing he wants to do gets blocked or they work together to impeach him the first time he steps out of line or shows any sign of incompetence.
Interesting. I was thinking along similar lines.

I would never have believed that I could become a fan of gridlock, but if that were the only way to stop a (god forbid) President Trump, I'd be in favor of it. Even more so if both parties were to band together to impeach him for cause. I've been a life-long anti-establishment guy, but I'd gladly join the establishment to stop something even worse from happening to my country. The enemy of my enemy, and all that.

Don't get me wrong. I want the establishment out of there, too. But not at the expense of installing a classless, moronic demagogue like Trump.

I am Canadian so I have no real dog in the race so to speak but it certainly isn't their job to stop Trump from winning. Its a democracy, the people vote, if they want Trump then so be it. If you want to determine who will be president then you may as well not live in a democratic nation. As far as for why Trump has gained momentum despite his clear shortcomings its pretty obvious that people are tired or the corruption of politicians, the disfunction of partisan politics, and so the monster has been created by the parties themselves. If he doesn't win he is still going to run as an independent anyway, and if the republicans blackball him he may end up beating them for second place. Regardless, we will take Obama up here any day over the politicians we have, Canadians love us some Obama

Flat 10% tax on everything? Sounds like a Goods and Services tax to me. I guarantee that if that was implemented, financial inequality in America would get WORSE.

The fact is that poor people have to spend much of their money to stay alive. Rich people don't, and can invest it instead, avoiding such taxes. If you're really worried about low and middle class income earners, you should be advocating increasing the top income tax bracket rates, and lowering the bottom rates, or even implementing a tax-free threshold.

Tax changes won't change financial inequality. Rich people are rich because they are smart with their money, in general poor people are content to live beyond their means. I see people all the time who are on welfare and rocking the newest iphone with a $100 a month plan. That is beyond their means, but they don't care they will piss away money on status symbols just like everyone else. Give them a few bucks more and they will be no better off, the only real way to make these people more wealthy is to tighten the heck out of credit qualifications so that they are forced to live within their means. That of course doesn't go for everyone but it does go for many many people

Trump is certainly not a racist. Anyone who says he is is a deep liar.
He has friends in different cultures all over the world, not to mention his companies.
He is also on the left of the GOP, particularly his views on planned parenthood and Obama care.
He is vilified by those on the right as they see him as a gatecrasher on the establishment. He is vilified by the left as is a strong capitalist and American patriot.
I hope he wins as if he is defeated by either the republican establishment or Clinton, both ways it will be same old same old. Adding to the deficit until it pops. Taking away rights and increasing taxes.
Only Trump can bring back the Yankee republic

I love reading all about the "secret" meetings of the Bilderbergs, the Trilateral Commission, and the Illuminati on PSRI. I wonder if they discussed Dormant Cyber Pathogens?
MacRumors is becoming a bit like ATS these days, lol. Never thought I'd see the day. Whole country has gone off the rails so nothing should surprise me anymore. Up next they'll be reporting on Bohemian Grove and what's that a chopper over my house?!!???

I don't agree with Trump and his policies, but I find it interesting the lengths to which important people are going in order to stop him from being president.

He may not be fit to be president, but at the end of the day it's a democracy and people are supporting him.

Given the kind of people that apparently were considered capable of being president in the past, if there's something that's so much worse about Trump than any prior candidate, they should just tell the people what the problem is. Also kind of surprising that it's a foregone conclusion that Trump will beat Hillary.

BTW, I completely agree with chriscrk - I may not agree with Trump, but this really seems like politicians trying to rod the American people of their choice, vs the party's choice.

I find it amusing that the GOP who begged Trump to pledge not to run as a third-party candidate if he lost out in the primaries are now trying to kill off his candidacy. Gotta love politicians...

FWIW

i'm really not pro-trump because he's trump. But if it pisses off other important people, I may be.

No. This is not a democracy, and the primaries are not an election. If the party sees him as a danger, then it is fully within their rights to make every attempt to stop him.

So this wouldn't even be an issue if Trump created the "trump political party" and let the Republicans run their own candidate. Yet the Republicans don't seem to want him to take that route either. (I can imagine in 2050 - Dad, you mean there weren't always just Trumps and Democrats running for president? That's right, son - once there were Whigs and all kinds of unusual parties.)

"The key task now, to once again paraphrase Karl Marx, is less to understand Trump than to stop him," Kristol wrote. "In general, there's a little too much hand-wringing, brow-furrowing, and fatalism out there and not quite enough resolving to save the party from nominating or the country electing someone who simply shouldn't be president."
Never thought I'd ever agree with Bill Kristol on anything. As they say, even a stopped clock gives the right time twice a day.

...thru a backdoor? + :D

Awesome.
Way to keep it classy with the "queer" joke.
I hope you get banned.

& to the people who "liked" this comment:
Shame. Wtf is wrong with you??
Would you have "liked" a slavery joke?? A joke about throwing Jews in an oven??
Or are some bits of incredibly tasteless & tactless bigotry ok to you, while others aren't?

So let me get this straight. While I don't support Trump, these guys are having "what do we do if he's elected/how to stop that from happening" meetings regarding Trump, when the truly scary issue is what do we do and how do we stop Hillary from getting elected. I agree that he has some serious flaws and potential downsides and in no way espouses the word presidential, yet the power hungry stop at nothing lying scandal ridden Clinton is still 100 times worse. She's the real nightmare.

This is the greatest thing to happen to US politics since the two horrible factions seized total power over the election process and cemented their stranglehold on power.

I'm just still genuinely surprised that it's happening on the right. You could expect this kind of thing to happen on the left... I would not have guessed the right would rally to overturn their own applecart.

Regardless, I'll take it.

Nope. Before the White Man stole the moniker the Illini were a group of Indian tribes in upper midwest. In fact it's who the state, founded well before WW I, is named after. I guess they only teach white washed history at Illinois. Or maybe you only believe what fits your own comfortable narrative.
There was no "Illini" tribe. The "Illini" were named after the state and the term "Illini" has been retrofitted to the Illinois Confederation as a result of chief Illiniwek.

There's no white washing on this. You are welcome to be uninformed (you're obviously really good at it), but don't say you weren't told.

[^^^ common added by me to complete actual quote]

The quote was by, H.L. Mencken.

Are you willing to stand by that no matter what?

-- I don't think they're trying to overrule democracy, but convince people to do think differently (hah). No problem..

There's so little meat to this message. Hillary doesn't openly talk about committing war crimes and limiting Americans' guaranteed rights.

Trump is the most likely to shut down the H-1B cheap tech labor source because he is not in their pocket like Hillary and the rest. Glad these oligarchs are running scared.

Omg, you are HILARIOUS!!!
You do know that Trump's big plan of getting work "back in the USA" is to lower wages & make this the same type of third world country, yeah??
Do you think he wants to personally pay & wants all his rich buddies to pay top dollar decent "working man's wages" for menial labor?? Do you seriously not comprehend how the rich get (and stay) rich?? Do you want to see us reduced back to the American "industrial age" that we have evolved from & shift away from the predominantly service related industries that are prevalent now & go back to huge pollution producing intensive labor production factories?? That sounds good to you??
*slow clap*
I don't wish ill on ANY of my fellow man; so let me put it like this: I hope you remain healthy and happy, but your car suffers a catastrophic breakdown on your way to the polls.

Tribes, not tribe. The Illini name was originally attributed to them, not WWI vets. Anyway, believe what you like. You seem to be no better than Trump. Your M.O. seems to be that insults & name calling is the way to win. No room for honest discussion.

Hitler was democratically elected by a landslide.

Sometimes the people have no idea what's good for them.

These Nazi/Hitler comparisons are getting tiring, even for liberal ideologues. Donald Trump has repeatedly demonstrated that he doesn't care about the color of someone's skin but the content of their character. Securing our borders, limiting immigration (both legal and illegal) and deporting criminals is NOT anything like what Adolph Hitler did.

I find it amusing that in almost any mainstream blog like Macrumors you will find lots of news "stories" from extreme left wing rags like Huffington Post and you will virtually never run into anything that is either centrist or *gasp* right leaning.

For liberals, here's the mystery of Trump's appeal unraveled.... the quiet majority of Americans are appalled with the direction our country has taken over the past several decades under the watch of both political parties.... Trump is their bloodless rebellion.

Deal with it.

Um, you might want to fix your headline. This was not a secret Donald Drumpf meeting. This is a yearly event that Tim Cook has attended in the past.

I'm going to laugh at all your anti trump bashing once he gets elected. And I'm not even fully a trump supporter.

Everyone else running on both sides are nothing more than prostitutes, bought to see someone else's agenda. If you rather have that good luck.

If you are wrong and insistent upon being completely and 100% wrong, it's not calling names, it's being factual.

OK. No prob. Please notify the Illinois museum of history that they are mistaken too. BTW you started with the name calling even before this stupid discussion, my dear Donald Trump wannabe. ;)

I would love to see him elected for no other reason than the complete liberal freak-out that would occur for a solid six months with chicken littles running around shrieking that the world is ending.

The head-exploding on mainstream media would be rather hilarious.
