Let's not forget iPadOS has truly unlocked the potential of iPad Pro to be the world's only SuperComputer for the masses.

HomePod with its awarding-winning sound profile.

Apple TV and Apple TV+ revolutionising home entertainment.

Tim Cook gets it. Steve Jobs could not have made a better decision in choosing him to be his successor.

lmao.
Dude the “supercomputer” for the masses began with the Apple G4, the the TiBook and every other PC Mac or Windows since.
Wow way to hyperbole.

I can’t tell if this post is a troll. If so, bravo.

Im not upset, and I’ve got a very large ignore list lol. My question is what happens when no one is here to feed them?

I guess it not surprising these threads about Cook draw dozens of knee-jerk comments from the Apple-hate crowd, since his success simply infuriates them.
I love Apple, but being critical of Tim Cook is fair game.

They don’t do change for the sake of change? Explain why they wrecked the Mail app in iOS 13.
I had to teach my mother how to use Mail all over again...

People here who keep bashing Cook forgot that when Jobs was at the helm, Cook was doing the CEO job already. People seem to forget that a CEO != designer/product guy. Jobs just happened to be the latter with a CEO title.

Maybe the news media and blogs should start focusing on guys like Dan Riccio and others who probably can talk more about hardware, you know, the stuff you guys tend to salivate and equate to innovation.

Meanwhile, Apple is having a lead on silicon and ventures into healthcare, things that people don’t see and thus “no innovation.” And as a CEO, Cook made Apple into a healthier company that it has ever been.

I wouldn’t quite agree that complainers (not just the haters of course), are uninformed about apples “innovation” it’s just that their innovation to delivery/productapong with comparison to the competition is glaringly slow.

example:
Apple a navigator video debuted back in 1986 (!) which featured what a tablet and interactive audio (& video) AI assistant can do. We’re still not fully there with audio and Siri but it’s exactly what Siri pretends, intended, and still trying to evolve to do. Apple bought a company and incorporated a team for 4yrs ahead of any competition yet they’ve quickly fell very far behind.

just on this alone, now with their 3rd head of AI leading Siri there is just countless features missing from Siri that is glaringly behind innovation from what Google, Bixby and very soon even Microsoft has or can deliver.

on the flip side, apples innovation of Glass used in stores like the NY flagship found some relevance to their iPad Pro gen1 and major leaps touses in Apple Park ... many of their products end users will never see. Ever! The application and use case of what they’ve found learned and applied in areas such as this just will not get to consumer products, yea?!

graphene battery tech Huawei is going to released the first publicly available phone to use that battery technology.

Why is Razor shipping what is essentially a 13” MBP with a fully dedicated mobile video card And yet Apple is not? MacBook “Pro” is not just that due to the Core i7 within the 13” model, it limiting Pro users that want a lot more portability to use macOS software have to make a ridiculous decision after countless pontification. As it tanda now the 13” MBP is a MacBook not a pro and it’s sad cause ever since the 12” PowerBook G4 I’ve always preferred Apple smalle laptop lineup (not including the MBA which I’ve bought the 2nd hen a long time ago ). Not to mention the Blade Stealth is roughly the same price yet Apple is purposely shafting their fan base.

putting the best feature into the largest of their phones isn’t showing innovative and it’s going to piss a few of their users off doing that. Ex I do NOt want a 6.5” smartphone but I’d love to have those camera features.

remember perception is a very different yet widely forgotten important thing to consider.

great post you’ve made btw.

What innovation Tim Cook is referring too?

- The Pathetic Macbooks Pro 2016-19 and the worse keyboard EVER?
- The entire line of Laptops that has turned into disposable appliances due to the soldered components?
- A 10 year old designed iMac?
- a 10k+ Mac Pro that you cannot upgrade the internal SSD?
- Or the new just updated entry iPads that still have no USB-C and still uses the Apple pen 1 that you have to ridiculously plug into the lighting port?

Innovation has been so bad in the Laptops that they spent the whole year trying to fix the problems from previous designs by upgrading it 3 times in the same year...

How bad that speaks about innovation??, when Apple is still selling all the laptops with the bad keyboards at all Apple stores?? That shows that they o not care about the customers, they only care about making money and clear old inventory.

Best innovation ever... Really?
Just buy a pc. You will be happier 👍

I think the issue boils down to innovation in legacy hardware like MacBook line, iMac, Mac Pro versus newer services focus, wearable tech etc. I personally feel it’s fair to say Cook is correct and incorrect, making these kinds of threads break down eventually into the “Apple haters” ( or “Tim Cook haters” v “Apple evangelists” or Tim Cook supporters.
I want to believe the majority on this site want Apple to succeed, but as it has expanded into so many directions (and to be honest, made more $$$ largely in those which depart/ expand from where Apple started) you will never find consensus on terms like “innovation”. I’m in the camp which has concerns about future of Macs overall and what I want as far as “innovation”, but think I’d be a fool to also say the iPhone and other Apple projects have not been innovative.
And let’s face it, “innovation” is such an objective term.....
People on this site complain about no innovation and then in the next sentence wish Apple still made computers like they did ten years ago. It’s more that the market has generally moved away from their preferences and they don’t like it.

I get that the failure rate of the keyboards in the laptop range were unacceptable but it was actually a very innovative keyboard. It was a polarising experience and it won’t likely be back But if companies are going to innovate they are going to get it wrong sometimes. Apple took a little too long to replace it but they did take the best elements of it and incorporate that into the new one found in the 16”. But the focus still remains on soldered parts and keyboard failures.

are you referring to the last 2yrs of Jobs life that Cook was doing the CEO then I’ll agree but it took more like 10yrs and another degree during that time to get there.

regarding Dan Riccio and other engineers YES they should and I expect them to be featured on stage during product announcements going forward!

y?

during Jobs rein, every engineer form Serlet (software) to Tevanian & Mansfield (hardware) and even twice Riccio was featured in the product announcement videos.

lately we’ve had a voice box piece , Ive the designer (I find it funny that iOS still cannot understand in context I’m not wanting to type I’ve) to announce products.

due to this .... the products innovation and progress have stagnated!
Y is a Lenovo C940 or Dell XPS 13” 2-in-1 just released as part of Intels Project Athena laptops have 34xx MHz RAM(!) and we’re still stuck at 2400/2600mhz RAM on MacBook “Pro’s” ?????!!!?

ridiculous! While these buckeroos collect huge stock option bonuses for garbage work!

don’t get mewrong the productslook sweet in design, always have but I’m feeling like all Mac users are being bamboozled the last 4yrs.

the iMac Pro andMac Pro should not be THE only macOS running products to have milestone like advancements going forward!!

Given all the QC/QA problems of the last few years, the fact that it took six years to come out with a new Mac Pro and everything else I might be missing...........Tim is seriously deluded. Apple innovates about as well as Ford does these days.

LOL the sad thing is Ford is innovating at a MUCH faster rate than Apple despite your poor recollection:

18 mths to develop the new GT and STILL after 50yrs won LeMans (this time in their class GT-E)! And with a V6 not a V8!!

1 yr prior released a proper TRACK handling Mustang GT350/350R that has won incredible reviews the world over with a Flat-Plane Crank (the largest displacement of that kind of engine in the world ever made & sounds sweet! 4yrs later still selling like hot cakes because the car goes like stink and NOT just in a straight line, has great manual shifting that beats many of the competition.

released a much better GT500 with the largest power per displacement ever!

2020 releasing their first truly electric vehicle (not to be discontinued shortly after launch) and an SUV.

yeah, Ford is innovating better across their products at a fast rate than Apple.

Apple innovated on:
Watch every year except this year - cosmetic change mostly, double storage but not really much better for all users on the S5 vs the S4!
AirPods and AirPods Pro ... solid no complaints in innovation herein.
4 yrs + for an updated Mac Mini!!
6 yrs+ for an updated Mac Pro!!
IPad Pro innovated nicely
Everything else piss poor and playing catch-up ... 16” MBP to fix years of issues so they do NOT get a pass here!

Exactly!
And please add the iMac with a 10year old external design, that you cannot even adjust the vertical height and still ships with 5400rpm hard drive in 2019!!
Apple is so behind, that the Microsoft Surface Studio looks better (not the OS, the design, with touchscreen monitor, etc...).

Tim is correct. Apple is making amazingly great products these days. I couldn't be happier with the house full of apple gadgets I have, nor with the services I use. Good job Tim, I know the best is yet to come.

This is just a terrible analysis.

A few random criticisms based mostly on opinion and personal preference and ignoring tons of positives and the larger picture.

You ignore the positives and overall performance of the company because you have your own personal axe to grind.

That's why you had to teach your mother to use mail all over again? Granted the interface looks slightly different, but Apple changes it up with every new release, so this is nothing new.
It is for a 75 year old woman with severe vision problems who is used to doing things one way and becomes disoriented unexpectedly after a software update.

So maybe think a little before popping off.

Imo, the iPhone also had a few innovations here and there.

agreed.

I think for the most part I was focusing on their computing platform. I’m in need to upgrade my iMac since I cannot get this Mac mini to accept this Mojave’s boot USB. The cost doesn’t match their performance n I feel their execs have not fully earned their bonuses.

Ive would have been a way better choice or someone with a design background

I would argue that "innovation" in this context is often overplayed. I won't repeat the negatives which greatly outnumber the positives. Marketing and branding is very much downplayed or eliminated, but it is never recognized by people such as yourself as a core to Apple's success.

When was the last time we've seen posters like you and others even identify marketing/branding as a core Apple strength? I'd say probably 0.
There are few companies better at branding or marketing than Apple. They know what they’re doing, no doubt about it.

Having some of the most innovative consumer electronics products—fairly-priced for their value—and an unparalleled ecosystem make marketing and branding that much easier.

Unfortunately, most in the Apple-hate crowd won’t acknowledge the excellence of Apple’s products. They typically make ridiculous claims like ”Apple sheep will buy anything as long as it’s overpriced and has an Apple logo” 🙄

So yes, Apple certainly, without a doubt, has one of the best marketing and branding organizations on the planet. Anyone who refuses to give Apple credit for that simply doesn’t know what they’re talking about. But Apple also have the products to back it up; customer satisfaction is off the charts. That’s one of the reasons brilliant investors like Warren Buffet are all-in.

THIS!!!!!!

There was an advert on the radio the other day selling the old outdated iphone 8!!!! Wtf, anyhow, they had to have a USP, so they concentrated on the screen to set it apart from the rest. How you ask do they market an old low res LCD screen as amazing?
Thanks for asking, I'll tell you.... its now being sold as the superior liquid retina display!!!!! Wtf, I kid you not!!!!!! Superior to what, a kids finger painting stuck on moms fridge!!!!! Jeez.....

Only the XR and 11 have Liquid Retina technology. Apple doesn’t advertise the 8 as having Liquid Retina, because it doesn’t. Perhaps you were listening to a carrier ad or an ad for a local cellphone store, but either way they got it wrong.

But yes, Apple has an excellent marketing department to go along with their amazing products! Even the non-Liquid Retina display is an outstanding display, with 326 ppi pixel density, P3 color gamut and TrueTone auto-white balance. Even though it’s 2017 tech and pre-dates the release of Liquid Retina, it’s an extremely high quality display.

Lol, you don't get it do you, liquid.. as in LCD, as in old screen technology.. and did you really describe retina as a technology lol? Its marketing buff!!! Are the 326 ppi screen resolutions still less than 720p baby HD? Lol. in other words, fancy words for an old product...

Says Who?? A person that lacks the vision to see actual FACTS?

A few random criticisms based mostly on opinion and personal preference and ignoring tons of positives and the larger picture.

You ignore the positives and overall performance of the company because you have your own personal axe to grind.

And once again you choose to divert the discussion. We are talking about the performance and innovation on the entire computer line up, which has been a disaster in the past 3 years.

PAthetic how you think that Designing one of the worse products Apple ever designed, the MBP 2016+, and its subsequent failure to fix the problem for over 4 years it is a random criticism based on personal opinion.

And by the way this is not only confirmed by reviewers, but by Apple itself apologizing and by class action lawsuits due to major REPEATED keyboard failures.

Please enlighten us how paying 3k for and underspec computer, that it is NOT upgradable and you cannot type is considered a "random criticism"? It is more considered a complete rip off.
