Timmy, why don't you work on fixing your ****** keyboards and leave the politics to the big boys?

From your post it appears you're not aware that large company CEOs have many roles. One of them is government advocacy, especially relating to matters affecting their company, employees, and customers. It's part of their job.

They shouldn't. That's why the country should always have a panel of independent economists who should drive the directiin by looking at all angle. People in the business of making profit shouldn't be influencing the government. That's why the Constitution mandates that the president shouldn't have any business affiliation. The same is manadated for federal reserve bank employees that they can't hold any financial stocks. It's the same logic why people recuse themselves from the decision making panels when they have any sort of contact with participating vendors!

The president, any president, can take or not take input on economic matters from whoever wants to make a case.

Article 1, Section 9 of the United States Constitution deals with receiving gifts from foreign sources that could lead to corruption.

I'm sure that was time well spent.

Meanwhile, why the sudden concern for those lost Chinese jobs?

Trump isn't in charge. He's controlled by the swamp creatures beneath him. He's also a prisoner of his inner demons, and dementia. He's a failed 'businessman' with connections to the worst of the worst. This country is suffering, and so are you. It just hasn't sunk in yet. It will...

Perfect example of Trump Derangement Syndrome.

They're even more destructive when one side levies them, and the other side does not, as someday the bill comes due, and when someone like President Trump comes to collect, other countries aren't ready.

There are lots of barriers countries can put up which aren't tariffs in order to give themselves an advantage. In the case of many of the countries we trade with, different regulations are imposed that make trade from the US difficult. No matter who is the president at the time, the threat of tariffs should be used if negotiation fails to remove / limit those barriers.

Why do you post politics on a tech site? People come here to get away from the relentless negative political press..

In the article, the mods added a warning that the comments on the story were being placed in the political, religion, social issues (PRSI) section. For those that are bothered, I suggest not reading the comments at the end of any article posted with the PRSI warning.

Hey MR can you be more aggressive dealing with all the Mac spam? Not every thread needs to be turned into the let’s complain about the Mac.
True.

I also am getting sick of the spamming trump supporters. I am sure there are some 'not working for a think tank' trump supporters out there and they should express their opinions.

But some of these users do nothing but spin every statement to some right wing talking point and ruin any chance of an actual debate.

I would much rather Tim Cook or Elon Musk be giving advice to Trump than ANY OTHER CEO

Elon Musk... YES
Steve Jobs... YES
Tim Cook... NOOOO

Elon and Steve were about making a better world. Tim is about share holders ($16,000 watch, removed amazing MagSafe and USB ports to save a few bucks) and he uses Jedi mind tricks to make you think he's trying to help the world. If you think I'm wrong, listen to previous conference calls with Elon or Steve... they hate share holder related questions.

That is generally why they employ "Lobbyists".

It's an "attention getter". Now that we have your attention, we can start communicating. Communication can lead to negotiations. Negotiations can lead to an equitable solution.

The conversation took a turn when the President handed Tim Cook a thumb drive so he could review recent trade data. Cook fumbled about in his pockets but finally found the dongle. Plugging the thumb drive into his iPad Pro he got the message "the attached device requires too much power". Trump just looked at him and said "sad".

I feel pretty bad for you if you are using thumb drives to transer data from one computer to another.
They are also a huge security risk.

Given that the Donald has totally forgotten that he was born with one mouth and two ears for a reason, I doubt if Cookie got that far with his sensible suggestions.

The IPad does not take thumb drives. There’s no USB. WiFi.

They don’t realize he’s losing American influence in the world. To Putin. To China. All he keeps is a bloated military and a dangerous stupidity. The Know-Nothing Party of the 1850s reincarnated.
If you really think our allies and those we have haad influence on are now looking to Putin I think you don’t really understand the world as well as you think you do.

Yup. The 19th century tariffs, the Hamilton tariffs we imposed, were at a time when the greatest manufacturing power was the country we had just gotten our independence from. It was a way to make domestic goods cheaper, while rising the price of imports. But Trump doesn’t,t understand anything about trade. Just casinos, bankruptcy and money laundering for the Russian mob.
