I would much rather Tim Cook or Elon Musk be giving advice to Trump than ANY OTHER CEO

I wouldn't. We need to be careful when CEOs give advice, remember, there is nothing that guarantees CEOs from acting benign. There is no reason why a CEOs agenda (social or economic) should be pushed ahead of anyone else. Corporations do not think, can't vote, and should have very limited (monitored, transparent, and controlled) role in the political sphere.

While I love Elon (Tim is a tool), once you open the door to one CEO, all other such as pharmaceutical, oil and gas, and anyone rich enough gets more of a say than others. So then it become a democracy of the supreme rich.

True.

I also am getting sick of the spamming trump supporters. I am sure there are some 'not working for a think tank' trump supporters out there and they should express their opinions.

But some of these users do nothing but spin every statement to some right wing talking point and ruin any chance of an actual debate.

Likewise, many trump supporters (or guys like me who don’t love Donald Trump but are happy to recognize accomplishments when they exist) are sick of the media and pop culture bashing and trashing Trump every single day no matter what he does or says. I’m tired of things that would have made people wet their pants with excitement if Obama had done it making people so mad now. Taxes, North Korea, and the state of the economy are all great accomplishments for Trump and if Clinton had won and made these same moves liberals would be beyond extatic. The hypocrisy and absolute hatred for Trump is more frustrating for us than you having to read pro trump comments on one blog.

If you really think our allies and those we have haad influence on are now looking to Putin I think you don’t really understand the world as well as you think you do.

No. Our allies are on their own, with Trump doing crazy extremist things. The neutrals are now more firmly in China’s orbit, and Putin is stronger. He’s been messing in European elections for a decade. Hungary, Poland, France, Italy...

You are completely speculating and making all of that up. When it comes to real, meaningful foreign policy, we are as strong or stronger on the world stage than we were two years ago as far as I can tell. Kim Jong Un laughted at, mocked, and made racist insults about Obama. He is now making groundbreaking concessions because of Trump. World leaders notice that kind of thing. They also notice the dramatic change in the power ISIS has since Trump took over. Sure we left some “deals” but they really are not significant to most people and nothing in their worlds has changed due to the U.S. leaving (TPP, Paris Climate).

Your unwillingness to recognize Trumps accomplishments shows your hypocritical bias. You don’t care if the country burns down. You only care that Trump isn’t successful because you don’t like him. That is pathetic.

To be fair, if the “experts” were right about anything they’ve predicted over the last year we would have seen Trump impeached and jailed, then we would have seen poor people getting no tax reductions or bonuses at all, then we would have seen Trump literally start a nuclear world war three.... yet on all of it they have been 100% wrong. Too often their political bias prevents them from being honest about the situation.

Putting tariffs on China might be an economic difficulty for both countries but the Chinese have abused our companies and IP for so long we need to get tough. I hope Trump keeps them guessing at wat he might do next.

Let's also remember all the "experts" that said Trump had zero chance of winning the election! Haha.

This. So sad when about half of the country wants to see not only the President fail, but the United States fail all because of their hatred of the President.

Very well said comment!

It depends on peoples point of view. Read through the PRSI and you will also see just as many people posting under any topic how bad Trump is.

I would advise people who are bothered by either pro or anti Trump post, to avoid the PRSI for their own mental well being :).

So, don’t hold peace talks with North Korea? Got it. This kind of all or nothing mindset is counterproductive and doesn’t help anyone.

Just look at history. Time and time again, North Korea has come, crawling on their knees on many instances, to the table for 'serious talks', and there are 'agreements', and pledges of cooperation, treaties, and then? Nothing... Broken agreements. Treaty violations. And NK goes back to their old belligerent ways.

Yet, we are to believe that a man who lies like he breathes, and refuses to learn and study anything about the job he was placed into, is somehow going to be THE ONE that will forge an agreement that the NK government sticks to. Somehow this lying gas bag is going to 'Solve all the world's problems' with NK, and fix the mess China and Russia helped, and continue to help create and sustain.

Yeah, sure... He just wants his frothing masses of supporters to demand he get a Nobel Peace Prize too, just like his mortal enemy Obama. The competition, and need to trash everything that Obama did is pathologic. But do get ready, you hopefuls, to demand he get his Nobel Peace Prize. After that, they will be giving them out in cereal boxes. For the record, I didn't think Obama deserved one, but I am not in charge of disbursing them

Let me correct that. It WAS so sad that after his election, the opposition party had meetings with the idea of 'making him a one term president' as the ONLY agenda point. Then, in the runup to the re-election, they tried everything to make him fail. Oh, and his first term, they really tried hard to kill everything he did. They even created the straight jacket of 'sequestration', which stalled the economy, and gave them something to run against. The 'stalled economy'! The stalled economy THEY CREATED!

And they thought of more and more outlandish ways to call him a foreigner. Slamming him with every dog whistle and piece of garbage they could throw at him. The rich got very much richer under Obama, but they hated that they lost to a black man. That gave them 8 years to slime and smear and inflame and agitate for their base to reject logic, and decency, and elect a buffoon backed by dark money, and dark forces. He is disassembling democracy. But you knew that.

Yeah, trump has it soooooo tough... *GAG*

North Korea has NEVER had a leader meet with the leader of South Korea or the USA. Not once since the Korean War began. They have never once agreed to dismantle their test sites. Your unwillingness to recognize this for the historic moment it is truly reveals your bias. You don’t care that this is good for the world. You just want to bash Trump. Donald Trump has done more to fix the Korea problem than any president in history. You might hate him but that is a fact. The three hostages released without ANY concessions from the US is another example of why this time is different. We get it, you hate Trump. That has no significance when it comes to the fact which is that he has done well on this one. If you want people to take your arguments seriously, it would help to be honest.

Im also waiting on your specific examples of how America is suffering under Trump...

Your local experts were very wrong about one thing, and one thing only - that Trump could never become pres .
They underestimated the indifference of the American people .

I'm sure dressing in drag and dancing the hula isn't the right approach, either.

Then again, it worked for these guys...

How about, instead of saying what isn't the right approach, you say, in your opinion, what is, not only for Apple, but for the USA.

Tim Cook doesn't care at all about the USA or any other country for that matter. He cares about profits, period. He shouldn't even be in the same room as the president.

You do realize he's not a king, right?

Maybe go put down the kool aid and go outside for a bit

And who do they usually call the most powerful person on the planet? The President of the United States. Who would you say has more of an influence than the POTUS?! I mean, come on! Look at the daily news ( Fox "and" CNN ).... It's 95% Trump related stories!!

PS - And here's one for ya..... We are on a technology site, which there should be disccusions/debates about computers and cell phones and such... but here everyone is now talking/arguing about Donald Trump!!

Touche'!!

This is exactly what I was taking about.

Geez --
You give yourself away with your key words: Clinton Obama, taxes, liberals, media.
Next you're on to the right wing talking points: trump's 'accomplishments' according to the right, etc....

And no one is buying the "guys like me who don’t love Donald Trump but are happy to recognize accomplishments when they exist" statement.

You are all in with the right and you should stand up and just be proud of of it.

Just a quick reminder that everything Tim Cook does is profit driven and is acted on to further the interests of Apple and has nothing to do with any effort to improve social issues.

Cook really thinks that analytical data will persuade Trump? What a laugh. The only way to persuade Trump is to appeal to his vanity and his bank account. Don't let it be beneath your dignity, Tim, because nothing is beneath Donald Trump. We should all know that by now.

You should assume and generalize less. The world is not so black and white. You think you know me but let me lay all my cards on the table for you...

1. I voted for Gary Johnson in 2016 because I couldn’t bring myself to vote for Trump and Clinton as they are both narcissistic liars who were both wholly unqualified to be president. I wanted my vote to count against both of them.

2. I am pro choice

3. I am pro gay marriage

4. I fully support net neutrality

5. I support clean energy expansion

6. I support the second amendment but don’t believe civilians should be able to buy military grade weapons

7. I am basically in favor of the government staying out of peoples lives

8. As far as criticisms of trump, I think he was too slow and has done too little to help Puerto Rico recover, I think he should tweet far less and be more thoughtful with his words, the comments he said about McCain in the primaries was disturbing and inexcusable, and he should never have appointed Scott Pruitt to the EPA or allowed Ajit Pai to run the FCC. I could list more but that’s not the point.

With all that, I think it’s fair to say I’m not a die hard Trump supporter or republican. I identify politically as a moderate independent and vote for candidates from both parties based on their records. I gave Obama credit where it was due and I do the same now for Trump. I maintain that it’s ridiculous that so many people in the media and entertainment have no ability to recognize anything positive has come from this administration. If you hold that viewpoint you’re either lying to yourself and everyone else or you are so ignorant to the facts you should talk less and read more.

Care to tell me what I think any more?

Well, let's go back to your original "'murrica f*ck yeah" style post, eh, and combine that in?

First of all, it's not *Trump's* budget, if anything it's congress'. The president gets some input, but mostly congress handles the purse strings - which, btw, is a huge contrast to Apple since you wanted to make that comparison, where Cook's control is significantly more absolute: Trump has never had and will never have that kind of control of a budget anywhere near that of Apple's let alone the Federal govt.

Second of all given the influence Trump is shedding because he seems to have a complete lack of comprehension about soft power or multilateral deals, I'm not sure I'd call the President the most powerful person in the world right now. Sure, the *potential* is there in the office, but the current occupant isn't using it particularly effectively.

Third, of course we're on a tech site talking about this, Trump's policies effect tech after all, but the reason *this* story is *here* specifically has to do with Cook basically telling Trump he's being stupid, which compared to your portrayal says a lot about the how you read the focus of the story vs, well, pretty much everyone else in this thread.

Cook is wasting his time. Trump got China to transfer $500 million to the Trump Foundation and that's the only reason he's interested in "trade" or "security" or anything else. It's all an opportunity to make threats and then pocket a payoff.

Im glad that Tim cares about people more than just making money. (at least with immigration) I don't get why people are so angry with him.

I'm sure Tim Cook really cares about immigration

An elite like Tim Cook views immigration from a perspective of "I'll have more options for a yard man" and "let's keep those wages at Apple down with H-1Bs, as we gotta buy back some more stock next quarter".
