The Nintendo Switch is not better than the iPhone X or the Apple Watch.

Disagreed. I own an iPhone X and we have seen other phones offer similar features or specs to my phone. Minimal bezels? LG and Samsung have that. Dual cameras? Samsung offers that too. A display with OLED tech? Many devices posses that offering.

The Switch reinvigorated Nintendo's hardware since it is a fantastic invention. Name a hybrid that seamlessly works just like the Nintendo Switch and offers good first party titles? HD/FHD gaming with portable gaming/traditional sit-down gaming/tablet gaming, decent battery life, awesome Joy-Con controllers, etc. All for $299? Sony tried the PSP and PS Vita, both of which failed. The Switch is taking over for the 3DS. Super Mario Odyssey, Mario Kart 8, Splatoons, FIFA 18, Breath of the Wild, NBA 2k18, Skyrim are some of the major titles appearing thus far. Wait till Pokemon, Smash, Mario Party, Madden, NHL all appear soon.

This didn't change the fact that Kaepernick was the citizen of the year and Jenner was the woman of the year. This awards are not relevant to me and it's a joke. I'm not saying that iPhone X doesn't deserve it, but maybe Kanye has a different opinion who's supposed to win the award.

Wrong.

I get 3 days normal usage. If I’m doing a workout or running it drops to 2 days (the continuous heart monitor and GPS do take extra juice).

The LTE battery life is kind of irrelevant as the Watch isn’t intended to replace your phone completely. The only times I leave my phone at home are when I’m working out or if I go out at night to the pub or similar. And all I do is then is a few text messages or the occasional call. A smartwatch is not a phone and shouldn’t be used like one. LTE is so you can keep in contact for those times you leave your phone at home, not so you can work an entire day using just your watch.
Thanks for explaining how to use a Apple Watch.

9th place with the Apple watch series 3? One would have thought the "freedom" of LTE on a arm would push the ranking of this to 2nd or 3rs place, maximum ..

Actually LTE itself on watch shouldn't be irrelevant.. it should be included. but we are still thinking the watch is always going to be an accessory. LTE would change that because you do not need a phone around u much. It's not until Apple breaks the phone away completely, and u'd be able to do more over LTE ob a watch will we then start changing our minds and seeing the potential of what the Apple watch can do with a cellular connection.

Its only the software that doesn't allow this yet,,, nothing to do with the connection.

I decided to get the LTE because I work 12 hour shifts as a nurse, and not being allowed to have my phone on me means I gotta figure out new ways to get calls and texts. lol.

Cue collective meltdown of Galaxy S8 owners
The last Samsung phone I had was a Galaxy s4. Even though it only got one minor OS update on it, it served me very well until I dropped it  And then again.  I don't envy ANYBODY who has a $650 to $1200 phone... iPhone, Samsung, or other. That was long out of my price range. These days, a $220 LG G4 is surprisingly doing the job "that feels like a top end smartphone", without paying all the unnecessary dough.

I really don't understand why there's so much vitriol amongst iPhone owners towards Samsung users.

The Nintendo Switch is easily the best gaming device that has ever existed.

Since getting it, I never bother with games on my iPhone anymore. The Switch has vastly better games on it and is only slightly less portable.

I think it's major competition with the iPod Touch and iPad at least, since a lot of those are given to children as game devices, and at least competes with the Games category on the App Store for the iPhone.
Back in 2011 (2010?) was when I first got my iPod Touch 3. Later on, I would upgrade that to the IpT4, and IpT5. Back in those days, I played iOS games nonstop. Now, I still enjoy them, but still being on ios7 for my IpT5 means I need to live without updates, so I work on the backlog stuff that I already started, or am sure I can start and finish within a reasonable time. I did get an Ipad Air to supplement that, but it's still on ios8, and even though I can get ios11... I'd rather not risk losing older games, and the rare chance I lose save data for a few, key existing games.

On TouchArcade, there's a thread about list of IphX games that make full use of its screen and other hardware features. This day in age, I got a backlog of games for MANY platforms, but if *I* had $1K I had to spend on video games, I'd rather sink $1000 into a Switch (disclaimer, I am a Nintendo fan), Zelda BotW, Mario Odyssey, and STILL have money left over. For me, some of the freemium/free-to-play titles have heavily pushed me towards paying $60 once, and not dealing with some of the awful issues with those models.

For kids... I'd be a bit concerned if young kids were losing games so easily. I can see a cheapo Ipod Touch for $50, and maybe a combo of free or $20 worth of games being enough to tide them over. If they lose it, I believe both the purchased apps AND their data can be recovered via iCloud, so there's that security there too!

I think Apple is likely to feel some pain from it - I'm curious if they'll respond. Really all they need to do is create something like the Joycons and Grip that works with iOS devices, and require games to support them.
Even early on, Apple didn't want to be thought up of as a "gaming platform". That's not the same thing as how OSX can run some Steam games, and many popular ones, like from AAA studios. Although iOS gaming is a jungle for indies, it's still raking in a lot of money for the AAA and big boys, and I hear with ios11, the AppStore got revamped to showcase games and other software better. However, I'm not convinced that they currently sink any significant efforts into gaming.

In your opinion. I agree with the ranking system and many other members on this forum - the switch is number 1.
And many agree with me. What’s your point? I think the switch is overrated. Good, but FaceID alone is cooler than the entire Switch and the A11 is an engineering marvel.

If the iPhone X was #1 and the Apple Watch was #2 it would be a great list, wouldn’t it?
Not great, but at least correct.

The first Watches were not that great as most of the apps would time out before they could actually do anything. The series 3 is finally up to the task and the iPhone X has been amazing. I’ve noticed a few missed calls but maybe that was from driving with do not disturb turned on. I don’t get notified that I missed a call but whenever I look at my phone there’s a missed call that I didn’t get notified about. Besides that issue the new hardware this year is great quality. It’s not cheep but at least it works (for the most part).

The Nintendo Switch is not better than the iPhone X or the Apple Watch.

As a gamer and Switch owner, I completely disagree. As an Apple Fan, I see your point and would say they just serve different purposes. iPhone X is incredible, but the Switch is pretty revolutionary for gamers.

I know. It’s amazing. As someone with not too much time to game, it has been perfect. They nailed it with the design/idea. Been wanting a device like this for decades.

After previously earning the designation of one of the overall best inventions of 2017, the iPhone X has today been placed at the #2 spot on TIME's "Top 10 Gadgets of 2017" list. According to the magazine, Apple's new smartphone placed so highly because many of its features -- including Face ID and edge-to-edge display -- "will undoubtedly set a new standard for phones to come."

Below the iPhone X, the following gadgets round out the top five spots: Microsoft Surface Laptop (#3), DJI Spark (#4), and Samsung Galaxy S8 (#5). TIME's #1 gadget of 2017 is the Nintendo Switch, which it says is a "true knockout" thanks to its games library and ability to transform from portable gaming to playing on a TV at home. There is some overlap with the devices mentioned on TIME's new list with the Top 25 Best Inventions of 2017 article from last week, including the iPhone X, DJI Spark, and Nintendo Switch.

Sitting further down the list is another Apple product, the Apple Watch Series 3, which earned the #9 spot. TIME said that the advantages introduced in the new version of the Apple Watch, like a faster processor and barometric altimeter, were great additions. But the magazine said the truly notable addition was LTE: "the freedom to leave your phone at home when you step out to walk the dog or go on a run may be just enough to persuade smartwatch skeptics that the Apple Watch is worth considering, especially for athletic types."

OH, did they put a headphone jack on it? No? Then I can't agree. I require MORE functionality in an upgrade, NOT less, especially when they diminish the functionality just to sell me even more crap for even more money, when what it's supposed to replace was less expensive, was better, more reliable... etc. Might as well call it the iPhone NOPE.

not like apple - despite pipeline problems

have any real competition is it ?

in so many ways they really are even now so ahead of the pack

But in so many ways they're starting to fall behind too - I was surprised seeing the "EverythingApplePro" speedtest video yesterday vs the new OnePlus phone, especially as he's an Apple fan; the OnePlus was noticeably faster in everything except 4k video processing than the iPhone X, including their less flashy face recognition and network speeds. So for all the tech in the X it's getting beaten at the basics and even its highlight feature by a phone costing half the price.

FaceId may be technically impressive but in real-world use it's getting beat by a simpler system. The iPhone looks better but that's one of the few areas I'd say it was actually "better", iOS 11 still seems buggy too, even after updates, so no - I wouldn't say "Apple are so ahead of the pack", even the pack from a couple of price points below.

don't worry the OnePlus will get slower each day while the X will keep a firm and steady lead.

So I saw a iPhone X at the Verizon store last night. Cute phone but no frigging way is it worth $1000 + My daughters iPhone 6 battery finally gave up the ghost so she upgraded to an iPhone 8. Nice phone and way more reasonable. Looking at Samsung and Pixel phones while I was there, they all cost close to the same these days so while Apple may garner some premium on the X the 7 and 8 versions are in line with the competition and are more than adequate devices. From here on out I'm always going to get last years model not the new one. I'm an Apple fanboy from way back but it's just getting ridiculous out on the bleeding edge products.
