I'm town between the blue leather loop and the classic buckle.

I know what i'm getting with the Classic Buckle, it's a nice safe option, if a little formal. (For my tastes)

I prefer the look of the blue Leather Loop, however, I worry about two aspects of it's design.

1. How strong the magnets will be.

2. The part of the strap that connects to the watch case is leather, not steel like the other straps. How durable will this be? Especially when you will probably pull the strap a bit to get the watch off the charger? Will it fray or tear over time? Is the hidden connection clip to the case made from metal or plastic?

I'd like to think Apple have reinforced the strap in these areas, however the closest Apple Store to me is over 100 miles away, so I might be ordering blind online.

Hands on videos and pictures of the Leather Loop seem very scarce, and nobody really talks about it on here. I don't think it's being pushed by Apple, and I don't think people are really warming to it. It's my favourite looking strap, but I do have concerns about it.

Reading through some of these posts, it appears that I've missed a couple of things.

1) What's the differences with the back of the Apple Watch between Sport and SS?

2) I've done all the looking on the Apple Watch site, looked at the mixing and matching sites too, but is there a site/thread that actually has hands on comparison photos so you can compare sport with stainless steel easily?

Ive not seen any sites like that, will come when the reviews are out i'd reckon but this is a neat site for having a look

Not sure about the second question, but the back of the SS watch is ceramic. The back of the Sport is 'composite' - which could really mean anything. Though most take it to mean some kind of plastic.

Just checked the SS edition w/ the sports band and it only says strap in the inside the box section. So it looks like only 1 band for the SS edition.

yes I looked too, says 2 straps, doesn't say anything about different sizes, so.....for £180 more for the SS you get 1 less strap! magic....

I'm DEFINITE on SS and 42mm. It's just the strap. My original worry with the white sports strap was that it wouldn't go well with my skin colouring (I'm fairly pasty white coloured). I think it looks better on tanned or dark skin, which is why I had originally favoured the black.

We're in the same boat as far as skin color/colour and watch selection. I currently have both the SS/Black sports band and the SS/White sports band in my favorites. I will either order whatever is still available by the time I wake up (a few hours after the preorders start) or probably go black and order the white band as well. Spur of the moment I may order the link band as well.

Cheers guys. Yeah seen that site thanks, but wanted more of actual "real" photos to compare. I'm sure I can scout about the net for some.

It's amazing how much we still don't know so close to launch with regards to the back and other things. I'm assuming the review embargo will break 2 days before like usual, but not sure if that will be before preorders, so tomorrow, or 2 days before launch of 22nd!

99.9999999% sure I'm going with the black SS, but the fact that there are so many more options for the SS makes it not quite 100% (especially the Milanese loop).

The link bracelet is what I really want anyway, but I hate that there aren't additional options for those of us that already want what happens to be the most expensive of the SS models!

You are mistaken. It clearly specifies on the watch's item page the size range supported by that item which covers the entire range of S/M and M/L sport bands which is 130-200mm for the 38mm, for example. It says this on the item page for both aluminum watches and SS watches with the sport band.

By this you can know it includes two different sizes of bands, or at least enough parts to make two different sizes (this specific detail is hotly debated by those hoping to do band swaps) regardless of whether the "What's in the box" listing says "band" or 2 bands. The "whats in the box" listing is currently appearing the same for all watches of a given "collection" and in the case of SS with sport band, it's simply wrong right now.

Like many of you, I am sold on the 42mm SS watch and only struggling with which band to get. I have eliminated all but the SS bands and I am fairly certain I will go with the Milanese SS loop because of the following reasons...

1. It will save me $300.
2. It is almost 1 full ounce (25g) lighter.
3. It will breathe better than the link band.
4. It is stronger and has no clasp to break.
4. It will fit perfectly as opposed to a link band which can only be adjusted by a links width.
5. Less chance of catching arm hair.

Any comments?

Do you think the magnet will allow for a secure hold on the watch?

So........ What I think your trying to say is there will be 2 bands with the SS?

I'm sorry, item 2 is incorrect. The SS mesh loop weighs 34g less than the SS link band, which is more than an ounce difference.

Depends. If you were buying the SS in the Classic Buckle, Modern Buckle, or Milanese Loop, they'd be about the same weight (Classic Buckle is lower weight) as a Sport version with a Sport band.

Since you're wanting to put a case on while landscaping, this might all come down to what you want to wear it with when you're not working and whether you think you'll be more likely to scratch it (sapphire is better for scratches) or shatter it with blunt force impact (Ion-X glass is suppose to avoid shatters best).
Thanks Bunnicula. My very first watch ever was a Mickey mouse watch with a black classic style band. I got it in 1972 when I was five. It may be a nice nod to my past to get the 38 mm SS with the classic buckle. And pick up a sport band for work.

I'm not sure how the aluminum watches will look paired with leather bands. They could look great. I have loads of stainless steel watches but have no experience at all with anodized aluminum as jewelry. I guess I can't go wrong with Stainless Steel.

I'm more likely to scratch the crystal than wreck it with blunt force impact. If I were to have an accident with the landscaping rocks I work with it would shatter Ion-X as easily as sapphire. And probably break a bone for good measure. I guess SS it is! Thanks again.

1) The back of the Apple Watch SS is ceramic and the back of the Apple Watch Sport is composite. I have read that ceramic is more opaque (better for the sensors housed within its confinements) and more durable than composite.

To each their own but I dig the look here (that's the SS + Link in that pic):

I guess you haven't heard yet that you can't buy the black stainless without the black link bracelet. That probably puts many off the idea of wearing it with the cheapo band since then they would have effectively paid ~$500 for a band they don't want.

I was under the impression you can choose between the black SS and SS when ordering. It wasnt necessary tied to the black link band. Is this not correct

Not correct. You will be choosing from a set of predetermined case and band combinations. The space black case is only offered with the space black link bracelet at launch. You can see this reflected in the store online already. All possible SKUs are already listed, just "unavailable" currently. There is no "build to order" concept with Apple Watch. Additional bands are sold independently, but, cases are not. And not all bands are available independently.

hmmmmm....Well guess will be buying the SS black link then....If anyone interested in buying the band let me know. I would rather have the black SS face than plain SS

I may be messaging you once I get a look at the watch in real life. My plan is to pre order both the SG sport and SG SS if I think the sport looks nice enough that I don't like the SS more enough to justify the price difference to just get the sport and send back the SS but I know if I got the sport case I would be wanting to add that SG link bracelet at some point.

This is largely what I am thinking as well, although I don't know about the "stronger" part.

If they were the same price I would probably seriously consider the link band, but given the huge price difference and the fact that I have very hairy arms, the link band isn't even in the running for me. I also think that the loop is a bit more visually distinctive than the link band. You don't see very many watches with that style band anymore.

Considering whether the mesh SS band is stronger, did you know this is the material they use for protecting divers from shark attacks? I think that might prove my point!

I do prefer the black face for some reason over the plain SS. I thought about order the black face along with the SS in sports band just to see which I might prefer on the 10th. My daughter is getting the pink sports band in SS, but choosing the 38mm. Will require placing multiple orders but hoping to pick up couple extra bands as well.

Not sure about the loop band with the black face though or the white sports band.

I keep going back and forth!! Only 3 more days to go and Im still trying to decide on the SS-Link or the Space Black SS-Link. Decisions, decisions, decision.....
