That’s right, Apple gave us all choices to choose from. I’m not saying the titanium is a ‘bad choice’, I just think it conflates too closely to the aluminum.

Even though I am not 100% happy with how Apple implemented the DLC on their Ti watch (would have preferred a non-brushed darker matte finish), I can tell you this.

After living with it for 4 days, at no time could I ever mistake it for an aluminum Apple Watch. Frankly I think the Al vs Ti comparison is way overblown.

I think it is way overblown also.

The Titanium is in another league from the aluminum. Maybe because I love mechanical watches and appreciate the subtle details, I notice the difference?

Can someone post a picture of the light gray band the silver titanium comes with next to a white band or even better a fog? I am trying to gauge if the light gray is close to fog.

The dark gray looks exactly like the “gray” released by apple in Fall 2017.

I can appreciate your observations, but I respectfully disagree. I think the titanium isn’t an exact replica of the aluminum, but like I said, it conflicts on the verge of being very similar to that specific look. For me, if I’m spending that kind of money, then I’d rather much have the stainless [or] ceramic, as those watch materials seem to be far more unique in the sense that they create their own separation of their own aesthetic. Case in point.

I agree the Titanium watches look way more premium than the Aluminum ones (which look cheap to me). In fact I think Titanium is the best looking finish Apple makes.

I was thinking of getting the DLC Titanium but I noticed that the demo watch in the store had a couple of scratches on it. It doesn't have the scratch resistance of the Stainless Steel DLC watch. I have had 3 Stainless Steel DLC Apple Watches and all of them looked brand new after a year. So now I am leaning towards SS DLC again.

Curious what you think of that?

Lol. It happens I guess but I would never wear anything aluminum on my wrist let alone a cheap watch from Apple that scratches as soon you do anything with it.
Aren’t you the guy who claimed you did have an aluminium AW and your breath scratched it? lol. I think you’re here just stirring for reactions mate as you clearly haven’t got a clue. Nothing wrong with the aluminium as many of us have proven. Stop trying to belittle others choices with snobby remarks.

He is going to tell you that his watch is fine after 5 days of normal use and that the reports of scratches are overblown and probably isolated incidences/flukes (he already did this multiple times earlier in this thread).

The watch , however, is obviously going to scratch/scuff up way more than the SBSS which by all accounts is a tank. .If you are okay with having to worry about it with a 849 dollar watch, get the titanium.

I agree with what Dan said above, all this money spent on the titanium, it looks way too-similar to the aluminum. Now, some don’t care about the aesthetics, then the titanium obviously offers the sapphire display. But if somebody was looking for a separation away from the aluminum that the titanium offers, I just don’t see it. I think the stainless steel supersedes the titanium in terms of the aesthetics with either the regular stainless or black stainless, and then of course there’s the ceramic if someone wants an entirely different watch material.
I thought the ceramic looked like plastic when I tried it out on Saturday. It’s nice, but personally I don’t see the appeal of it and especially at £1399.

I don’t think it’s your experience with mechanical watches that gives you that opinion. I’ve been collecting mechanicals for decades and I love the aluminium AW. People talk about the aluminium version like it’s awful, cheap and really deserves to be put down.

The aluminum serves a purpose just like a G Shock. It is the Apple Watch “beater”. When I was wearing traditional watches frequently, I would use my G Shocks when I didn’t want to get my mechanical or even my MT Gs messed up.

But since I wear this Apple Watch all the time, I prefer a more refined piece that can be dressed up or down with the band choice.

Perhaps I should consider a “cheap” aluminum Apple Watch to beat up?

I bought the black and the silver titanium models. The silver one looks really good. The black one not so much. It almost looked like dull plastic. I ended up swapping it for the black stainless steel, which looks much better.

The differences between AW casings are so subtle I can’t see how there is that much difference.

Why did you emphasise the word ‘cheap’? What was the point in that?

I've been on the fence about titanium since it launched, not b/c of scratches but more of what do I want as it will be my first watch. I happened to check the NYC 5th avenue store today and they had them in stock so I bought one, although the pickup time was like 10PM so i'll just get it tomorrow..or order online if they cancel my order as it's a bit insane with the reopening of the store and UN in town.

Either way I'll report back when I get it...hopefully by tomorrow.

Pictures are posted here. 14-day window started last night at 11PM, thanks to my amazing wife.

Have you seen them IRL? The difference is much more apparent than in pictures.

You don‘t have to worry about it, though. You could also embrace the patina.

I’ve seen the titanium in person when I visited my local store in Charlotte yesterday. I didn’t like either Titanium version (prefer the lighter if I had to choose 1), the to me the Stainless is so classy that it makes the decision easy. Funny thing is that i was the only person looking at watches in the entire store.

That said I went with Ceramic this year, but I’ll use my S4 Hermès as my gym watch because I love the way the stainless looks and the durability (screen and ability to polish the body if you care to.)

Yet here you are again spreading false information with suggestions the aluminium scratches as soon as it’s worn. Was this a joke too?
I am thinking of the Apple Watch as a time piece. I would never wear an aluminum watch (Apple or not). I personally think aluminum is a cheap material for a watch, but again that is my opinion.

Now if you think of the Apple Watch as more of a wrist computer then I guess aluminum is fine and many people purchase the watch. (I’d argue people buy aluminum because it’s the cheapest and not because of the material, but...) It’s also fair that we can disagree.

Hyperbole aside (and I think it can be hard to tell in forums when people are joking, etc), the aluminum screen scratches much easier than the sapphire screen. I don’t think anyone can argue that!

LOL. This is MacRumors. We have a unique talent for arguing over the stupidest sht imaginable. :D (and yes I've had someone argue that the two displays have no effective difference in scratch resistance)

My dad who is kinda of frugal and stick rocks a 6S Plus, got a stainless solely because his Series 2 became scratched up to death in the first month of owning it. We will see how it holds up. I’m waiting on the Titanium personally.

I’d be a person that sees it as a cool useful gadget, not a timepiece I’d admire for its craftsmanship. It’s a throwaway electronic like the iPhone that eventually expires. We’ve thought of aluminium as a premium material on the iPhone for years with its 7000 series properties. All of a sudden because the cheapest AW uses it it’s now a peasants product that deserves to be ridiculed across the forum. It’s snobby and nauseating.

I would agree the screen scratches easier if abused yes. Much like we’d all agree the sapphire screen is more brittle if bashed. The material properties dictate that but none of us are ridiculing the sapphire on that basis. It’s petty nitpicking that is all too common on here and makes these threads unbearable.

Looking like my SB Ti will show up on Thursday. Since we're all justifying why our choice is the only correct one and all..... ;)

I personally went with the SB Ti for several reasons. Partially because I'm a fan of Titanium, but really more importantly because I wanted the sapphire screen and I love matte black style finishes.

I've had every generation of the AW to date. Each has been SG Aluminum. I have yet to get a single scratch on any of the cases, love the light weight, but every one has ended up with scratches on the glass within the year of ownership... To be clear, they are always on and I don't baby them...

Previous to smart watches I always had 2 and would rotate between the nicer watch for work, nights out, etc and had a beater for the other times, but I have no interest in doing that with an AW...

Frankly, if they offered Sapphire glass on the aluminum sport version I'd probably even have considered that.

I could really care less what others think I have, for me its purely personal taste and preference. Matte black finish and better glass made the SB Ti pretty much a no brainer for me.

I almost went with the black SS in the past, but could never get over the polished / shiny finish. Just doesn't do it for "me".

Anyway, looking forward to getting this sucker on Thursday.

Well, hopefully, its been stuck in "arrival" status in Louisville, KY since 7AM yesterday... Move watch, move!

Now if you think of the Apple Watch as more of a wrist computer
All Apple Watches prior to series 5 without “Always On Display” feature are indeed a wrist computer as it does not display time consistently like a “normal” watch behaves including a regular digital watch. The non series 5 watches only appear as a black mini box like a mini computer on the wearer hand when the wearer hand is not raised or without tapping it.

Did you see if they wipe off. It’s probably other material from something else. Dlc should not scratch easily I was able to make mine look horrible with a key and it wiped off 100 percent.
