Took another one for the team on my TISB. This time instead of using keys I went at it with a ss kitchen knife. At first I thought it was destroyed but it wiped right off with my finger. Looks little bright on the second pic. Thats just the refelction from the heat lamp in the bathroom. No damage at all.

That’s pretty impressive. I wouldn’t have the balls to try that. My SS SB watches never once scratched, but my SB link bracelet I’ve managed to permanently scratch in a few spots. Like I said before, everything scratches, it’s just a matter of how much force is required.

I want to put a theory out there, I'm not even 50% on this one but it is possible. After my post I'll place a link to a video them demonstrates what I am about to explain... I think its possible the pictures of scratches we have seen already posted to this forum, in particular those on the SBTi are actually debris from the object that was damaged BY the SBTi Apple Watch and those "scratches" would rub right off leaving behind a perfect watch.

Every item has a rated hardness so each year people test for example the iPhone screen with a series of picks numbers 2-9 with each getting progressively harder. At a certain point usually around a 6-7 the screen begins getting scratched. Well THIS year the iPhone 11 Pro / Pro Max rear casing is MATTE glass and the following video shows an interesting difference when the scratch test was performed... it shows scratches IMMEDIATELY at the lowest level 2 and then suddenly around level 6-7 the scratches disappear which was confusing to the reviewer until he realized the matte texture was actually damaging the lower softness picks until it finally got to a similar hardness (around 6-7) when the "scratches" disappeared because the glass could no longer damage the pick. I suspect the DLC on the SBSS would do the same if not for the fact it is smooth but since the "brushed" surface of the SBTi is slightly rough it is actually damaging items that come in contact with it and leaving debris from those items on its surface which look like scratches... if the watch is HARDER than the metal object that strikes it and is rough it very well could be damaging the item, not the watch.

Perhaps it is possible? Check out the video and tell me it doesn't look like the same effect that happened to richard371 above (if you want to skip to the important part go to 4:45)

This is a great video. Thanks.

Add me to the impressed in person club. The silver Ti looks really sharp but understated. It’s give the impression of a brushed stainless steel which reflects different colors depending on the light source. Tones of gold can be seen at times. The SS calls more attention IMO at first glance, but the Ti has a more subtle elegance. It definitely doesn’t look like aluminum in person, but then again I don’t really care what people think I’m doing it for me. I’m going to see how the finish holds up for me and make a decision.

Id love that grey sport band from the black Ti so let me know if any of you want to sell yours.

Charlotte, NC has them but they are locked below the table. None are available until you ask.
Titanium had slight scratches. Black titanium looked fine to me.
Same at my store. I was quite surprised as they have never previously stocked the Edition models (or the Hermes which they still don’t).

No local store does. I wouldn't read anything into that.
My store does and it isn’t a flag ship store.

Ceramic arrived today and it wowed me enough to take the SBTi back. I did take a moment to snap some pics of the display titanium models at our flagship store. Guess what? No scratches lol.

Anyway, we’ll see how I like the ceramic over the next couple weeks, definitely not subtle...

I love the ceramic!! Just wish I could convince myself I should buy it. SS is the most I could convince myself to get given the watch is almost the same as my 4.

I got the regular titanium version and was pleasantly surprised that the color is close enough to use the link band. You can see the difference if the light is right, but it’s pretty subtle. I prefer the brushed finish. Color is roughly the same as my other titanium watch.

I’m hoping the battery life picks up though. I’m just barely getting through the day with it. 19% at 8:30 PM today. I’ll give it a couple more days before I resort to returning it.

I can see Apple expanding with a ‘rose gold’ titanium, similar to how they did with the Apple Watch rose gold Series 4. There’s no doubt they’re going to bring back other colors in the future for this model. From a male perspective, rose gold was surprisingly a popular color, I wouldn’t hesitate to ‘sport it’.

Whats the difference between the dark gray and the gray (2017) sport band? They look the same, I may sell mine..38mm btw

What do you think about the band combination with the Apple Watch Titanium compared to the Apple Watch Stainless?

my confidence in the SBTi has been restored, thank you.
I’m going to send my natural titanium back and order the SBTi.

I believe the sport bands included with the SBTi & Ti have a corresponding titanium pin. The older bands have a different material for the pin.

That's right. The grey is also slightly different as per Apple tradition.

You should probably repeat yourself again, for the third time, on the same page. we get it, you don't like the titanium because you are worried it will scratch easily based on your 6 seconds looking at it in the store. Got it. Move on and enjoy whatever you end up with!
Sounds like someone is bitter to know how easily the Titanium gets scuffed. You shouldn’t have told the poster that as if you’re his dad. I can confirm these Titaniums have a more noticeable scuff than the other kinds and this information can be useful to people worried about this sort of thing.

Yup, hard pass on the titanium. It does look nice, and many may not agree with this, but it looks like the aluminum or somewhere in that same realm of aesthetics. The ceramic is ‘standalone’ material to me, I actually opted not to purchase the ceramic and go the space black stainless due to the DLC coating, but if Apple had offered the gray ceramic this year, that probably would’ve swayed me.

SB Ti has landed...

The black leather loop leans a bit toward gray compared to the finish of the watch itself (though not as much in person as it appears in the pic).

Very nice, and as some others have commented, already appreciating the always on display more than I had anticipated.

Very nice piece of hardware indeed...

My natural titanium AW is scheduled to be delivered on Friday, well ahead of the original October 21-28th delivery window. I am a little nervous about reports of scratching, up until now I have had a S0 and S3 in SS specifically because it was so easy to take a Cape Cod cloth and practically wipe away the fine scratches from daily use. Five minutes once a year or so and they were like new. Sadly not so easy with the titanium.

However I must say I have relaxed a lot about my gadgets and I think these days I'm in the "just use it and love it" crowd. I am still very careful with my stuff, even before the AW I was a traditional watch collector and kept even my daily wear rotation in good shape. But I don't think I'm as picky about scuffs and scratches as I was a few years ago. Hopefully, since I love titanium, the wear will be tolerable.

I do find it interesting that Apple says that they "invented a whole new surface treatment that is stain and fingerprint resistant to keep it looking immaculate" for the natural titanium. Notice it does not say "scratch resistant". Just stains and fingerprints. Though any surface that scratches easily is gonna be far from "immaculate" LOL.

I don't envy those of you agonizing over your Ti watches and which finish to go with, whether it will scratch, etc. I did the same thing with the S4 last year (finally settling on the SS gold after trying all SS variations). It makes me glad to be sitting it out this year; probably going to agonize next year over the S6. Good luck in your choices - the Ti is a very cool watch.

First day so far. Put it through a typical weekend day of yard work, cleaning out the shed etc.. Didn’t do anything to try and avoid hitting my watch nor did I purposefully hit it. But it did bang and rub against multiple things from lawn mower, swing on kids swing set, edge trimmer, leaf blower and broom stick. Not one scratch so far....still pristine. I gotta say...I REALLY like the finish of the titanium. I don’t expect it to be scratch free and accept that it’ll scratch just as my previous SS Apple watches, polished SS Breitling and SS brushed omega all have scratches. But if it looks to get pretty bad in the first 14 days I might switch back to SS. I’m hoping that’s not the case...and if today is any indication I should be okay. Will see what happens throughout the week at work and maybe a round of golf where I use the watch for gps distances.

Another update. Avg day at work yesterday and a round of golf today....not doing anything different. My watch hit my clubs a couple times putting clubs in/out of my golf bag.... not a scratch yet.

The more I wear the titanium the more I REALLY like it over the SS ive had before. I dont get this whole titanium vs aluminum thing. From far away they probably look pretty similar...but closer there is a discernible difference. I didn’t get the titanium to impress others. I wanted something different and like the brushed look. Sapphire crystal face was a must for me, which the aluminum doesn’t have. Doesn’t matter much to me..but the titanium is definitely lighter than the SS. It also matches my SS brushed band pretty good. Got 11 more days...but so far it looks like I’m going to keep it. Here are some more pics.
