IMHO that band looks really cheap. Does not match that watch well.

Wasn’t expecting much when I ordered it 4 years ago...but like it and don’t really care what other people think lol. Haven‘t found anything since that I like more. It’s not a perfect match with the titanium but I think it matches just as well as it did with the SS AW. BTW it is cheap. I bought it for $40 on amazon. But TBH you’re the first one thats ever told me it looks cheap:). When compared directly next to my other watches you can tell the difference in quality. By itself not so much...but then again it’s a $40 band lol. Keep in Mind it has 4yrs of abuse that I wouldn’t imagine putting my other watches through.

If you run a lot then consider using WorkOutdoors app. It adds a lot of metrics that you'd be used to on the Fenix and also includes interval training routines that you can create.

Also, if you have a Stryd, their app works really well without the need of anything other than the stryd footpod and the watch.

Thanks. I saw it mentioned a few times and did an impulse purchase and setup at 5am this morning and went for a quick run. So far so good other than no heartrate, which i think is an issue in permissions. I'm going to look into the stryd footpod next to get the advanced metrics.

From Apple “Only found in the most exclusive watches, titanium is exceptionally strong, lightweight, and beautiful. For our natural titanium finish, we developed a special surface coating that prevents yellowing, staining, and showing fingerprints”. Says nothing about scratch resistant. Looks like it might scratch easily. I’m out.

I'm in no rush... I like the look of the Natural TI but will wait and see. The one the sales guy in store showed me (locked draw) had 3-4 marks on it but, I wasn't able to work out if they'd rub off or not. I would say it looked sufficiently different to the AL watches though.

No scratches or scuffs on mine in the first three days of usage, so feeling better about its chances to hold up. Will keep on eye on it though.

A day 4 here with my Space Black Titanium.

Worn to work everyday, to the gym, napped with it, etc. A few accidental light bumps to the watch but no marks or scratches so far.

Coming from a SS, I’m very happy with the Ti. Love the texture and how it reflects differently under different lighting. Definitely a keeper for me.

Same watch since Sept. 20. No scratches. Battery life sucks, but the case is great.

I had another look at my local Apple Store Titanium demo model today to see what it looked like after a week of people fumbling around with it. I found it was pretty dinged up on the right side with the crown and button. These are all light marks but are visible as you're shifting the watch in the light. I apologise I didn't think to take a picture when I was there, it was really to solidify in my mind which model I'll be getting.

I'm not denigrating anyones decision to buy the Ti watch, because I agree they look beautiful. Just some anecdotal evidence that given carelessness, they will scuff up. At least it won't be as obvious as the Stainless Steel though! I know this is not a fair comparison to the general use of an average customer and the loving owner of a Titanium watch would obviously care for their watch much better.

I do like to check Apple Store Demo iPhones and watches that have been handled for a week or so though. In my mind it simulates what the device might look like after a year or so of bumps and knocks. A great tell for the Phones and to check the strength of the anodisation is to examine the lightning port, since they take a hell of a beating after being clumsily reset back onto the charger a thousand times.

The natural Titanium does not include the DLC finish as the space black includes, which Apple labels as ”The space black titanium finish uses a diamond-like coating, making it both beautiful and incredibly durable.”

That said, if someone was concerned about the natural titanium scratching, then the space black is the obvious choice, and I can attest to that durability, because the DLC is extremely protective with the space black stainless Apple Watch.

I will take real world reports over demo models in stores. I never trust what a demo model will look like, phones, watches, etc. But to be fair, the real world reports are mixed as well so far.

Titanium is softer than steel, so of course the natural Ti watches are going to get scratched up. DLC coated Ti is a different story.

I've noticed the crown gives of some sort of reflection that can look like scratches in some light. Could be just that.

Received my SB Ti yesterday, and love how it looks. This is my 1st AW so I've got a learning curve but so far so good. First charge yesterday after 12 hours was showing 40% with lots of fiddling, downloading, etc so very pleased. Today at 82% after 1'20" use and 4'11" standby. AOD running, spotify controlling music, really no conserving efforts taken so far with California watch face. Haven't activated cellular yet though.

I have not been at all careful about bumping into things and already hit the wall, my desk, etc and if there are any scuffs I don't see them. And the crystal is perfectly flush on the edges.

Hitting the gym later today so need to figure out the workout and music features, but overall a very happy 1st time AW user!

Mark

just over 9 hours, lots of notifications, etc but mostly sitting on my butt at 67% usage.

You Ti folks have got me thinking, haha!!

I’ve always gone SG aluminum since Series 0, and I’ve had every series since. Just got an S5 in SG. I never liked the silver aluminum, as it looked a bit ‘cheap’ to me.

I’ve always liked Ti as a material...I like the color, texture, properties, it’s reputation from aerospace, etc.

Question for those who have, or have seen, the natural Ti AW. Does it look THAT much different than the silver AL in person? I’m not interested in the SBTi, since that looks too much like my SG. I’ve seen the SBSS in person and didn’t think it worth the extra $$, plus I like a lightweight watch.

I know, I know...I should just buy one and see for myself, or go to an Apple Store haha!!

Thanks for any insight, and thanks to those who posted pics!!

When I looked at one in store I didn't think, "it looks like the AL one". It has a nice brushed stainless steel look to it. If over time the scratching issue is either resolved or, turns out not a major issue then I would go with it for my next AW.

The one I seen in store did have marks but... I wasn't able to check if they could be cleaned/wiped off and B, how much effort did it require to make the marks. Only time will tell. My wife has the AL one and she didn't get a mark on that until quite some time after it was bought... but it does mark. Just depends on how you handle it. My SBSS on the other hand is bombproof 😂

Thanks for the feedback!! My SG aluminum have never scratched. Same with the ion-x screens. And I don’t baby my watches at all. I wear them all day, every day doing all kinds of activities.

OTOH, my wife has scratched her ion-x screen, but that was after scraping it on some really rough rocks on a hike. And even then, the scratches essentially disappear once the watch comes on. She still hasnot scratched a case (knocks on wood).

Of course, we only keep them ~one year, so that might explain why they “hold up” so well, haha!!

I’m dreading it, but it looks like I have to venture into an Apple Store to see for myself. I just hate the crowds, haha!!

There was a brief period on Saturday where it said October 2-3 delivery, and “ships in 2-3 days”, so I ordered one. Still says “processing”, ugh.

That article states, "And, brand new for Series 5, titanium in brushed metal and DLC-coated space black."

That suggests the DLC-Coated is space black only and not the Natural TI.

Ok then here. Specifically this part.

“The silver version of the titanium Apple Watch does have a slightly more prominent brushed appearance. Space black is a tad more subtle, though, and uses the same diamond-like coating (DLC) that is employed for the stainless steel.”

Shipping dates have improved, they now say October 2-October 3 delivery

Yeah, they all read this thread and cancelled 😂

Great thread though, I was toying with the idea of Titanium, but will go for the SBSS. I have a SS S2 and I love it - sure it got scratched, and one dent where I dropped it, but all the polished out.

But now I have the SBiP4P and I love the finish on the metal, I assume the SBSS S5 is the same, will go for that.

Worth noting that I have a silver ALS4 and the case is not marked at all (since March), but the glass is quite scratched. The SS watches up are worth it just for the sapphire glass.

Lol, honestly though I’m thinking it might’ve been a mistake on their website. Dates are back to late November, and when I ordered it over the weekend it said ships in 2-3 days. Day 4 and it doesn’t even say preparing to ship yet.

Again it refers to the DLC being applied to the black TI watch. DLC is never mentioned in the same sentence as the, "Silver Titanium". It does however state that a special coating has been applied to prevent staining, colouring etc.

" Then to enhance the durability, Apple has developed its own coating that will prevent yellowing and staining. That's previously often been an issue for titanium as the material is porous. "
