That is not true depending on the grade of the stainless steel or the titanium. But generally Titanium is approximately three to four times stronger than stainless steel, which means its lifespan over generations is slightly longer. However, titanium can scratch, so its care entails routine polishing, or it risks becoming dull and marred.
The only material property that matters on an Apple Watch is the surface hardness. None of us are going to put 9.81kN of force through these little devices. It’s only the occasional brush with an everyday object if we are careless. They could have released a brushed stainless edition and got the same look as the titanium to be fair. It’s all marketing at this level.

On Day 2 with my replacement Silver Titanium. No scratches or issues so far. I'm hopeful that my first Ti Watch just had some defect that lead to the scratches I experienced. I'll be keeping an eye on it and will decide on Day 10 if to keep it or switch back to SS.

interesting....care to share part of serial number? First 5 of serial number will denote what factory and build week

Just received my Space Black Titanium this morning. I definitely love the new gray strap. Also really like the Edition exclusive color on the California Watch Face. The only thing I’m skeptical with and need to get used to is the color matching on the Space Black Link bracelet. The darker the environment, the easier it is to get used to, but driving around today in bright sunlight threw me off as it came across as so much lighter than the band. If I didn’t weR the Link 90% of the time, I’d be a lot less picky about it.

I do notice it is not as laggy as the Space Black Stainless steel S5 model.

I got it at 11am this morning, it had 73% battery. Battery died at 2:30am. Space Black would had been dead by midnight. I ended up returning the S5, the guy that took the return said they were getting a lot of similar feedback on the Stainless Steel models.

I made a video I will be editing, in the meantime I took some pics on the Link and some side by side with my Space Black S4 and some comparisons. Also took some shots on the grey band with California Display in Edition color. Photos don’t do that Exition color justice. Video should go live tomorrow. I’ll post the link.

You are wrong. You are referring to fatigue strength over generations and I am talking about hardness of a new product. Yes over decades, titanium has better fatigue strength than 316L Stainless Steel. But the Apple Watch is a product you own for one year before buying a new one so the fatigue strength is completely irrelevant. Over the next 12 months the case of a 316L stainless steel apple watch 5 will be harder and less prone to indentation than a titanium apple watch 5.
I didn’t know this, thanks. I personally feel it would make more sense for me to get the SSSB then.
This thread has me torn between the SSSB and titanium models.

That Edition colour face is one of the sole reasons that’s making me really want the Titanium model....

Does the sport band included come with a titanium pin or something? I have a grey sport band in new condition from 2017 and it looks 100% identical to the “dark grey”. If anyone is interested..

the sport bands that come with the watch DO have titanium pins that match the watch finish.

1. I think the back round fasteners (pins) on the sports bands that are black are all just dlc ss. I have the gray from the sbti and the black sport band from my sssb and they look the same.

2. why would the ss models have worse battery life or be more laggy then the Ti? The internals are the same.

Really looking forward to the video Doug!!

The Ti is looking good for sure!

Yeah #2 can’t be unless it was a bad batch or watch. More likely, it might have been stuff syncing or something. I can confirm that my Ti’s battery life has not been great, definitely worse than my S4 SS but part of that is WatchOS6 which hasn’t been as great with battery and obviously the AOD. I haven’t had a problem getting through the day so I’m happy.

All previous Edition Watches ((real) Gold, Ceramic) had matching pins on the included Sport Bands made of exactly the same material. Also, the pin on the light grey Sport Band included with the natural TI Watch is also clearly TI and not SS. Hence it seems very probable that the pin on the black sport band included with the black TI will indeed also be TI.

Well I’m a little annoyed now. I ordered this watch on Saturday when it said “Oct 2-3 delivery”, but now it slipped to November 20-26. I wouldn’t have returned my stainless steel one if I knew this would happen.

But it also says “we have everything necessary to complete your order. We’ll update your delivery date when your order is preparing to ship.”

This makes no sense. At the very best it's a coincidence. From the aluminum to the ceramic, they all have the exact same components inside of them.

That’s surprising, I ordered my natural titanium three days ago and it already shipped with an estimated delivery of October 4th latest delivery date.

To be honest, I didn’t pay much attention but I believe it had said 10-15 October if I’m not mistaken.
Yeah there’s a big gap between delivery dates for the regular titanium and SB titanium. I’ll just stick it out and use my series 3 until then, hopefully it arrives sooner than estimated.

Ya same here I ordered the same watch 2 days ago and I got the preperaing shipping status yesterday.

Has anyone gotten a) The 44 mm Titanium in Space Grey; and b) the Nomad titanium band? Just wondering if they sort of match.
Thx.

I’m almost considering getting the regular titanium. Is that DLC coating worth waiting 7-8 weeks? Lol.
Depends what type of environment you're putting it through. If you're an OCD person, you should just wait it out for the SBTi or settle for the SBSS. Though my Natural Ti is holding up fine, though I'm just grooving around the office and doing weekly outdoor runs.

Yeah, I actually decided to just get the SBSS. I actually like how it looks more, I just wanted something different.

Interested in this also!

Could just be the batch of components used in those particular SS cases? Don’t know, but this one has definitely been more responsive than the SS, noticeably so. And although battery life is still not great on Titanium, it is better than the stainless.

I think something was happening in the background on the SS, or something defective.

Yep, just had the same happen to me (44mm SBTi). Hopefully it ships sooner, I have a 30 day trade-in window on the quote for my previous watch.
