I love how people in this thread talk about how tough Titanium is and how it can last decades but most of us will be upgrading AW in a couple years and completely forget about the one we bought this year. The way I see it, Ti is more midway between Al and SS, the only reasons it's "Edition" are because it's new and costlier to produce than SS. Same argument applies for ceramic (except it's not new anymore).

When it comes to AW I couldn't care less about how strong the material is, I know I'll be upgrading in a few years eventually. I just want my AW to be impervious to scratches and look nice so I'll stick to SBSS.
Why care about scratches if you plan to upgrade in a year or two. The titanium not only is new, but it’s a standard watch material. Apple is appealing to watch enthusiasts with the titanium case and California dial

Wow, my Ti AW5 was originally scheduled to arrive October 14th-17th, but I just got an email that it shipped with a delivery date of Oct 7th! The UPS tracking page estimates October 4th! Nice surprise 😊

Is the titanium metal on the watch softer than steel?
If it is then it’s strange how it’s being marketed. I would put it between the SS and AL being that it’s a softer metal with the weight being between the SS and AL.
I personally am finding Apples marketing of the titanium as an edition model weird.

I’ve just received my natural titanium and there’s two scratches on the side button.
I’ve initiated a return and I’ll be buying the SBSS instead.
Also I’m not feeling the weight difference from a SS.
I also don’t like the slightly gold appearance of the watch, it’s definitely not for me.

Wow, it was scratched out of the box??

The weight difference is equal to half of an 8 x 11 paper.

Wow, you went through a lot of work to restore the finish on the titanium Apple Watch. I wasn’t sure if you’re able to actually use any type of abrasive/polishing cloth on the titanium finish, but apparently you can based off your post. And I’m also not sure how a Cape Cod cloth would fare in the sense of removing any light scratches/scuffs on the titanium finish.

What’s interesting, is that you mentioned you scratched your titanium watch by hitting on your dresser, and yet another member allegedly was taking a kitchen knife and tried to scratch it, ‘claiming’ he couldn’t even damage it. So makes me wonder where the threshold is when damaging this specific finish.

Yes as someone else said- the other guy with the knife was on a SB model. I mean, it wasn’t really that much, took like 5 minutes.

nice to hear scratches can be polished out. Can you give more details on the type/color Tripoli and rouge you used? Also wondering what this would do to the “special surface coating“ that Apple says they apply.

Honestly- I didn’t realize this was suppose to have coating on it. Whoops! But I don’t think I could have polished the coating off with what little I actually did. If I did, the the coating would surely wear off through regular wear. Which makes me wonder if a lot of the marks we are seeing are damaged to the coating and not the actual metal. Which means what- the coating is some kind of liability? I just rubbed a cloth on a block of brown tripoli. So like very very little. And seriously with the rouge it was very brief. I didn’t hammer on it.

white rouge? I read one of the reviews that it was a nano coating aka ceramic...but take that with a grain of salt lol.

No, just regular old red. But I didn’t saturate the wheel, I didn’t want to risk making one part more shiny than the other. Just spun it on the rouge a touch, and just kind of lightly tapped it on the watch a few times.

Just compared TiSB and SSSB - I cannot tell weight difference with closed eyes. I also want to add I've just stopped in Apple store and Ti black and Ti natural both have scratches. Natural Ti has more scratches. And they do not have on display, you have to ask them and they take them of the drawer.
I had SSSB4 for one year, no scratches at all.
My SSSB5 has very bad battery life, going to replace them.

Yes, I tried to rub the scratches but they were still there. They were definitely not coming off, there were two scratches on the side button. I’ve just packed it up and returned it.
It just has to much of a gold tint to the metal for a link bracelet to be suitable.
I’m now waiting for my SBTi to arrive at the end of October but I’m now reading reports of that scratching easily too.

I bet those units were dropped or rubbed against something with DLC. Mine is flawless and I have been wearing solid for 9 days...

So you’ve no issues at all with yours?

this thread is so long im sure people aren’t really seeing my earlier posts. I’ve had my natural titanium for 9 days now as well. Have used it daily...yard work, work, playing golf. It has hit and rubbed against mult objects from lawnmower handlebar to desk and the forged heads of my golf clubs...and it’s still flawless. Not to say it won’t scratch...but so far mine has held up well. At this point I’m pretty set on keeping it and not switching back to SS. Unless something changes the next couple days.

I tell you what’s crazy is that in the Apple store the Silver Aluminum Apple Watch looks like it’s the white ceramic. The lighting is so weird sometimes (or maybe it’s overly perfect) in Apple stores.

I was returning my Hermès watch and was looking in the case and saw what i thought was the White ceramic. I asked the employee If I could take a look at that white ceramic watch and he said “Oh no sorry we don’t carry it in store.” I pointed and asked “isn’t that it?” He said “No, it’s the new Aluminum.” I swear it looked like a white watch in the casing. When he took it out it was the silver one, but it’s very different than the previous silver models. It’s much lighter, almost white it’s so bright.

Anyway just thought it was interesting how much I thought it was the ceramic white when it was behind the Apple glass.
