I tell you what’s crazy is that in the Apple store the Silver Aluminum Apple Watch looks like it’s the white ceramic. The lighting is so weird sometimes (or maybe it’s overly perfect) in Apple stores.

I was returning my Hermès watch and was looking in the case and saw what i thought was the White ceramic. I asked the employee If I could take a look at that white ceramic watch and he said “Oh no sorry we don’t carry it in store.” I pointed and asked “isn’t that it?” He said “No, it’s the new Aluminum.” I swear it looked like a white watch in the casing. When he took it out it was the silver one, but it’s very different than the previous silver models. It’s much lighter, almost white it’s so bright.

Anyway just thought it was interesting how much I thought it was the ceramic white when it was behind the Apple glass.

I noticed that, too. The previous silver AL was already too light for my taste, I really don’t like the lighter shade.

FWIW: Day three with natural Ti. A few swim workouts, a trail run, and two runs on the road. Still looks like I just took it out of the box. Very happy. It’s a keeper haha!!

For anyone thats in love with the dark gray sports band but did not buy the SBTi.. the gray sport band apple released in 2017 is pretty much spot on to this new dark gray “edition”. I got mine on eBay for cheap.

I own a 46.5mm omega titanium watch and have a fair amount of experience with refinishing both the shiny and brushed metal surfaces. In my experience, “bare” Ti does scratch fairly easily, but so does every type of metal.

I would recommend using Flitz brand polish if it needs to be polished, as that brand seems to work better than other polishes typically used for stainless steel, gold, and other metals. For light scratches, it’s probably best to just brush it with an abrasive, but you’ll need to find the right grit sandpaper and use a steady hand to match the grain. I’d be careful about using too much polish on the brushed areas, since doing so can put a shine on the metal that won’t match the rest of the grain.

Any scratch you can wipe away from a pure Ti surface with a microfiber cloth most likely wasn’t a scratch to begin with.

You guys are lucky that Apple decided to give these watches a satin finish rather than a polished one. Polished Ti surfaces are actually quite difficult to restore—much more so than stainless steel or gold.

I’ve heard these watches have some sort of nano-coating, so be aware that any polishing or refinishing will remove that coating.

Do you know if they have the light grey sport band with the silver ti on eBay?

Thanks for posting this!! While the light grey is nice, I’d like the dark grey too.

The hunt is on, haha!!

Hmm, that’s interesting, I just checked and it looks like the charge isn’t on there yet. I know it authorized immediately after I ordered. I used a debit card, so maybe that’s a factor.

If you’re using debit card, Apple will conduct a ‘pre-authorized’ charge, essentially where they are ensuring the funds are available in your account first, if you check your bank account, you should see an Asterix showing a pending charge, but your funds haven’t been deducted yet until the item physically ships and the ‘pick up scan’ by the carrier.

Why care about scratches if you plan to upgrade in a year or two. The titanium not only is new, but it’s a standard watch material. Apple is appealing to watch enthusiasts with the titanium case and California dial
I care about the scratch because I want my watch to look neat while it's on my wrist.

I was at my local Apple Store yesterday and asked to see the SBTi out of curiosity, to compare with my natural Ti. Oddly enough the natural demo models were pristine and scratch free, while the SBTi was already showing scratches. I'm happy with my natural Ti!

While hunting for a dark grey sport band, I stumbled across a midnight blue sport band with a stainless pin!! Should go great with natural Ti.

$17.00 OEM, NiB. Nice!!

I was still vacillating between the Ti and the SS so I went back to the Apple store last night. On 2nd viewing it solidified how nice the Ti looks and now I'm 100% in, they just didn't have any stock. The Ti is subtle elegance, while the SS is more flashy but kind of is starting to look toy like to me these days. Thinking of all the scratch complaints I took the metal link bracelet and while putting it on purposefully tried to scratch it with the sharpest edge of the piece that slots into the phone. I really put a decent amount of pressure a few times trying to scratch it and didn't even leave a mark. That's good enough for me.

Anyone know about the free grey sports band? The Apple stores are telling me you don't get an extra band. I wanted to get the leather band so I would have the grey sports band also for $899, but now I'm not sure if I would get both bands.

You get the band of your choice plus the gray edition sports band. Go build a watch in the studio and look at “what’s in the box”.

It’s most likely other material as I’ve discovered on mine and some demos. I can’t get mine to scratch.

When the Space Black Titanium pops up in a local store... it would be rude not to complete the duo, wouldn't it?

Nope. My space black stainless Apple Watch never scratched, I owned three of them over the years, due to the DLC coating, I sold them in mint condition.

The DLC coating on the stainless steel is very durable and the ceramic Apple watch might be even more durable. These watches can scratch, it's just a lot harder to do so.

In the world of expensive watches though, it is widely accepted that most watches will scratch, including stainless steel that isn't DLC coated and titanium. In general, people want their watches to look pristine, so when people send in their mechanical watches to be serviced, they are generally returned looking practically new as they are polished.

Those who want to to maximize the value of their watch will opt to not have their watches polished as polishing them actually removes a thin layer of the metal and it will devalue the watch as collectors prefer a scratched and worn piece over a piece that has been polished.

I pre-ordered a SBTi 40mm last week with a 24th Oct delivery date but I’m hoping for an earlier dispatch.
But with each day passing I ask myself why I really want the SBTi over the SBSS.
The SS is a harder material with very little weight difference and will take a bigger loss when selling.

What do you think about the match on the natural titanium case with the stainless steel band? It looks really good in the pictures, is that an accurate representation of what it looks like in person?

It looks good on the space black combination too but I do notice that the edges of the space black stainless steel band have the same polished finish as the space black stainless steel band.

The natural titanium combined with the silver bracelet are a good match in person too.

The space black is less good, due to the polished sides as you say.

I bought the SBSS last year and prefer it over the dull SBTi. After a year of regular use it is perfect.

Found a bunch of light scratches on the edge of my natural Ti watch where the strap clicks in. Been using the sport loop and noticed the plastic buckle touches there. It’s actually scratching the watch. I tried switching side and it appeared over there. That’s not good.

So I just got the Ti watch and noticed mine didn’t have the screen protector out of the box like I saw on some unboxings.... for everyone who has it did you guys have a plastic on the screen when you first opened it?

i also noticed some micro scratches on the bottom of the watch near the strap lugs area.....Not sure how I feel about that
