Are you referring to taking keys and a butter knife to the natural titanium or the space black titanium? The space black titanium has a DLC coating, the natural titanium does not.

Right, it’s been established the space black titanium has DLC. But to your question, that member used a knife to etch the casing on the space black titanium, claiming that it couldn’t damage the casing where the marks would essentially wipe off. FTR, the natural Ti only includes a fingerprint/smudge coating.

I find the scratching issues a bit odd as well. I tried very hard to scratch a Ti watch in store with the sharp end of a metal link bracelet and found I couldn't scratch it. My scratch attempts were parallel to the bottom of the watch, and I'm noting that most of the scratch pictures here seem to be smaller more vertically oriented scratches, not sure if that has anything to do with it.

Did you try to scratch the natural titanium or the space black titanium? The space black titanium has a DLC coating so I wouldn't be surprised if you couldn't get it to scratch. I would be surprised if you weren't able to scratch the natural titanium.

I noticed faint scratches on the underside of my natural titanium watch which I find odd because of the location. There is only three things that could scratch that part,

1. My skin - We can rule this out.
2. A band - I've only used the sport band so even if I did fumble putting it on, it's too soft to scratch the casing.
3. The charger - Maybe but every time I place the watch on the charger the magnets connect it so it's not like I'm fumbling around with it.

Odd, makes me wonder if there are some issues with the way the coating is applied. All of the scratches on my watch are also perpendicular to the brushed finish, including the scratches on the underside of the watch.

Interesting. Was it you couldn’t tell the difference because of the overall look between the casing materials or the weight between the two?

overall look. Seems silly to pay double for something that is 95% the same thing. really have to have them next to each other under bright light to tell the difference.

but they're not the same thing - one is aluminum with glass, one is titanium with sapphire crystal lol, and they do look very different up close. but if you're talking about from far away, all apple watches look the same unless you have the normal SS.

i mean the casing counts for like 10% of the watch. whatever floats your boat buddy

It depends how you weigh utility, function, and luxury. In this case, the utility and function of all of the S5 watches is the same and the only difference is the metal casing and scratch resistance of the glass/sapphire of the watch which is a luxury.

There is no wrong answer for where on your scale of importance you place the value of that luxury. For some it's important, for others it's not. It's all a matter of personal preference.

Decided to order the SBTiS5 44 MM. Sadly have to wait till 11/26/19 - 12/2/19. Oh the torture. For the time being, I'm buying the cheap S5 every 2 week and return it and get a new one until my Ti Watch arrives. I traded in my S4 for when I got the Watch 5, and I cannot live out having a watch.

Check your local flagship store if you have one reasonably close. My local one has had stock every weekend. I have tried all three Edition watches and picked them all up locally same-day.

Unfortunately the Apple store near me isn't a flag ship store as they told me when I asked if they had the ti. model.

So therefore they won't have any Watch Editions in stock at all.

Apple stock allocations are weird. I’m showing two Apple stores out of the three in my region that are now having the natural titanium only in stock on a Saturday, when two days ago, they were completely sold out. Oddly, I never found the black titanium in stock in my Apple stores, just the natural. (Which I check daily.)

That’s just wrong switching every two weeks.

I know it is pathetic but nothing I can do about it. It is what it is. I just hope that it will move faster. that is all. The sooner my Ti watch ships, then I don't have to keep returning and rebuying. Technically there is nothing wrong with that if Apple Store manager suggesting doing so.

And FTR, I'm only doing this online, I know it's awkward to do this directly in store as sometime time ask. But that's why there's online vs. in-store.

If ever there was a call to blacklist customers abusing a returns policy then this is it.

This is costing Apple money for shipping and handling and increases their standard cost per unit. This leads Apple to raise their prices to keep the desired profit margin costing us all more money for the watch.

I think this is why you are getting the salty responses to your strategy, I agree with another poster to buy a used one or a new S3 and then sell when you get your desired Ti.

Nothing you can do about it? What world do you live in? You sound like a serious brat that needs a wakeup call.

You’re the reason why the return policy is 14 days versus 30.

I just returned my titanium to get a different watch, but after that I will be keeping it. Continually returning a product means that you almost never actually get to own the product, never mind that once you need service for that watch you want it'll be a pain in the butt to look it up in the systems because you've owned so many of the same watches.

So I was on the fence re SBTi. After going to the local store and seeing the scratches on the SBTi I am going to go SBSS. Shame because I like the grey band and leather loop for not that much extra compared to the SBSS.

I hate the idea of a scratched Apple Watch, but every time I see photos of the titanium series 5, it looks... nice? Somehow I think the material and finish of Ti is so ingrained with nice watches in my head that I just think a decent patina is an acceptable finish (whereas on aluminum, for example, it just looks damaged).

You could always just buy a Series 3 for $229 and always have a back up Watch. You could use the cheaper Watch when you are doing yard work etc. I have multiple watches and they play nicely together.

I went to the Apple store yesterday and compared the Natural Ti to the aluminum at length. If anyone looks at these two watches and sees the same thing or thinks they are "pretty much the same" should absolutely get the aluminum and enjoy it in beautiful bliss. I think the Ti oozes a quality that is intended for those that can appreciate it. Probably the "Watchey" types. I can't speak to the scratches. I was trying to figure out whether it was worth it to get a Ti over Alum. Honestly I am not sure which I will get because I am not quite convinced its worth it, to me, to pay this much more for the beauty of the titanium vs. the niceness of the aluminum when functionality is the same. If I buy a Ti I would have to be convinced that I would be happy with it for 3 years with occasional use for longer. If I was to buy alum I would probably want something new in a year (2 max). I don't want to buy a $1000 watch every year or every 2 years. Hell, I don't want to buy a $500 watch every year. I wonder what me will win out. The one that likes shiny things or the more practice one? Wow! this are big decisions. 1st world albeit.

The finish means those marks appear on the space black titanium but they are not usually scratches, and will rub off with a damp cloth.
