I posted in the big thread, but I got my Sheath and Synthesis today alongside my black iPhone. The Sheath is phenomenal. Fits like a glove. Metal buttons work well and look fantastic. Much better than what they had before. They did a good job with the infamous cutout too. It's very easy to access. I can tell you after 10 minutes of using the phone that I'll never use camera control. It was an answer to a problem no one had.

I haven't really had a chance to play with the Synthesis yet, but at first glance it's also very solid. It feels a little lighter than my Sheath, but not by much. I do like the dot grips on the side. We'll see which one I end up with.

I end up ordering the sheath case for my with IPhone 16PM. I’m wondering if they’ll make a revised version with a camera button.

Received the Sheath for my 16PM

- New metal buttons are nice and clicky. Great change, especially with the action button which I found a little stiff last year.

- Fit is perfect

- My only complaints are with the cutout for the camera control:
(1) The camera control is significantly depressed relative to the rest of the case. So I did find that the edges around the cutout seemed to get in the way when my finger was sliding on the control
(2) It’s a pretty big cutout. Depending on how you hold/grip your phone, the area where the cutout is can be a little bit uncomfortable. It’s not noticeable when in my right hand. But in my left hand, my pinky ends up resting right on the cutout.

Oookay, this is what we have been waiting to hear

In your opinion, does the cutout obstruct/prohibit the full use of the camera control button?

My case has not shipped yet (I got the Paragon) and if there is any issue, it's good to know now so that I can cancel the order.

Just need to know how significant the problem is. Had you known this before ordering the case, would you still order it?

Thanks

I got my package yesterday with the Sheath and Synthesis. Both are great. The fit and finish is perfect and the metal buttons are what I've been hoping and wanting for a while. I got one in Blue and the metal buttons in blue are /chef's kiss/. I am partial to the Sheath. They both feel solid, but I like the Sheath's texture more this year. I'm keeping both of them.

As for the camera control button, I think they did a great job. It's really easy to use and access for my fingers. I've tested in portrait and landscape and it's fine. Portrait is a little odd, but it's because of where the button is not because of the cutout. No complaints. But I'm also in the camp of not being too worried about that button because I'll rarely use it.

Thank you @FranApple and @jay4

Your input on these new Caudabe cases is the very first being posted in this group.

Very much appreciate your first-hand opinion on the camera control cutout

So far, it doesn't sound like there is an issue. I am assuming the Paragon cases will have the same design so I shouldn't have any worries in advance and keep my order.

I think it all depends on what you care about the most. The fit and finish is the most important to me and both of the cases I got are high quality and what I’m used to from Caudabe. I used to be an Apple case guy, but stopped after I found Caudabe many years ago. There’s no way I’d go back just for a button I’ll rarely use.

Agreed with you on all counts

Been playing with my new iPhone 16 Pro Max and I am not impressed with the camera control button at all

Does who have a Caudabe sheath case, do you think Caudabe will release a revised version of the sheath case for the camera button like last year for the action button ?

Can someone pinpoint me the differences between the Sheath and Synthesis?

I don not drop my phone regularly, I like clicky (metal) buttons and prefer my cases not too bulky. Any advice?

They both meet your stated requirements. The Sheath is more flexible, has a microfiber lining, and is textured the same all over the case. The Synthesis is stiffer with a hard poly back plate, no lining, raised grips along the sides, and a smoother texture on the back. They‘re both rated to the same 6.6’ drop protection.

never heard of em until i read this thread. loving the sheath
Be ready to never want to use any other case. Caudabe cases have been my go to for years. I got my 16 Pro Max Sheath and Synthesis in and am very impressed. Last year’s Sheath was a little stiff in the buttons. I was fine with them, but they could’ve been improved. This year with the brushed aluminum buttons, they look great and are very clicky. The rest of the case is basically perfect. Cutout works well enough for it to be a non issue for me.

Between this year’s Sheath and Synthesis, I’m going back to the Sheath as my daily. I’ve used the Synthesis for more or less the past year, but there’s just something about this year’s Sheath that I’m really digging.

Think I will wait for the cutout to be covered. Very sure there will be be a revised version down the road.

Those can wait I will suggest to. Cutoff is a disgrace with that price now.

What are you going to use in the meantime?

Got my black Sheath the other day and it’s so nice with the phone. Loving the metal buttons. However, the camera cutout can get a little distracting but can be overlooked.

Distracting in appearance or usage?
Neither for me. I’m on my third day now and have been using the camera button extensively. The cutout is neither distracting nor a hindrance to me, but that’s my usage. The case itself has been fantastic.

The camera button itself is growing on me too, which is unexpected.

I'm reading this thread with great interest.

anyone willing to share a photo of the Sheet on the phone so I can see the size and depth of the cutout?

just took delivery on my 16 pro. I've thoroughly enjoyed the Sheath on my 11 pro and 13 pro and was going to order the Sheath but the lack of the sapphire cover gave me pause.

to learn more and give myself some time to see others experiences, I went with two cases from Amazon: the Gripmunk (to me a cheaper version of a Sheath) which I have in hand right now, and an Apple Silicon which I have coming tomorrow. I bought these purely for the convenience and ease of return without any issues with Amazon (I rarely return things, but this is a good use case). I think the Silicon case will give me an idea of the advantage of having a dedicated cover vs cutout and hoping the gripmunk will give me a rough indication of what the Sheath will be like.

right now my phone is stuck with 3 hours remaining my direct phone to phone transfer. just like I found in the store, I think the camera control button requires a fairly firm touch either naked or with the Gripmunk. I'm not sure if I'll get used to being sure I'll hold the phone steady enough to not move it while firing the shutter, or stick to using the screen. I imagine the Apple case might make this easier, but we will see.

of course, I almost expect to dislike the Apple Silicon because of the lint collecting tendencies. we will see.

And still no reply to my support email from days ago, this is the worst caudabe have ever been support wise, they must be holding back my sheath orders Because I ordered a paragon as well, but no mention of this when ordering when everything was available for order,so they can save 20 poxy dollars in postage,I thought American firms where well run !!!

I’m in the same boat as you but thankfully my Sheath is shipped now after waiting on a reply from my email that I sent on September 13th.

This was my response -

Thank you for the information!

It would be extremely helpful if you put that on your website because I did not know that ordering an in-stock item along with a pre-order item caused this issue.

I had no problem ordering them separately if I had known.

Thank you again!

Caudabe is just getting worst and worst unfortunately but I still love their cases.

This review (jump to 5:36 second mark for Caudate) doesn't show the case in a good light when it comes to wear. I hope my Sheath doesn't have this issue!

I'm in the same boat. I got my Sheath and Synthesis last week. I'm keeping the Sheath and am undecided on whether I'm keeping the Synthesis. The Sheath has been amazing so far. It's the perfect case. Enough has been said about it already so I don't have anything to add. The metal buttons are definitely a nice touch. I have no problems using the camera control button with the cutout on either Sheath or Synthesis.

I'm also liking the Synthesis. It's a great case. It does show scuffs more easily than the Sheath, but I was using it with my MagSafe chargers and wallet and it was fine so I'm not too concerned about long term use. The Sheath just takes the cake for me this year for overall feel.
